Barry and Paul’s Predictions – The Final Reckoning

Welcome to Barry and Paul’s Predictions – The Final Reckoning. GW38 brought the season to a close in typical GW38 style. The final game-week of the Premier League often throws ups some unusual final scorelines and this season was no different; a 9 goal thriller in Spurs last home game at Wembley, City scoring a solitary goal in their win at St Mary’s, and of course my beloved Newcastle putting 3 past Chelsea without reply – Happy days!

What started as an informal and innocent comment on another random article, asking you what you thought the game-weeks scores would be that week, has turned into something of an FF247 staple article now! Careful what you say around here folks, it can often rob you of hours of your life! That it then took on a life of it’s own is thanks to the continued engagement and enthusiasm from you lovely lot – so a massive thank you from both myself and my fellow Chuckle Barry (Matt) for making this happen.

We would also like to announce that Barry and Paul are going global, which is a more exciting way of saying that we’ll be running a competition throughout this year’s World Cup finals.

Some of you will be taking a well deserved break from all things ‘Fantasy’ this summer, but if you fancy trying your hand at predicting results throughout this years World Cup then this is the place to come. We’ll be posting up more details before you can say ‘England are going home’ or ‘England fans clashed with local police in Russia’.

Before then we still have two weeks of results to reveal, and of course this season’s overall winner, so without further ado, lets see who did what, and how!

In GW37 it was Mr.Bean who took top spot; 13pts were just enough to see off second placed Neelbasus and DenPerryDidit, who both finished on 12pts. A whole host of teams were just behind them on 11pts in third, I’d tell you who they were, but Barry (Matt) didn’t tell me, so if you’re really interested then shout out and I’m sure he’ll let you know!

Weekly Leader board (GW37)
Winner = Mr.Bean 13pts
2nd = Neelbasus and DenPerryDidit 12pts
3rd = Lots of people 11pts

In the final game-week, 12pts were enough to make Sam10 the winner, closely followed by yours truly with 11pts. Third place was a tie; Constantine and Albox both picking up a solid 10pts.

Weekly Leader board (GW38)
Winner = Sam10 12pts
2nd = Rosco 11pts
3rd = Constantine and Albox 10pts

Congrats Mr.Bean and Sam10, please email us at contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk to get your hands on that FF247 t-shirt.

OVERALL WINNERS(S)
So who won the 2017/18 Barry and Pauls Predictions overall league title I here you cry! Did Init do enough to hold on to top spot despite predicting a 0-11 score for Man City in GW38?

Well in short no.

It was apparent from the get-go that when it comes to this predicting lark, two of you are seemingly a cut-above the rest. Coys and DenPerryDidit have been making this look easy from day one, and in the end, it’s perhaps fitting that they both finished the season with an epic total of 221pts. Perhaps the pressure got too much for our illustrious leader? There have been rumours that perhaps in the name of good sportsmanship, he simply became a little ‘overly generous’ in his predictions (Southampton v Man City 0 -11 anyone?), we’ll never know. Init finished the season just 2pts behind our leaders; 219pts wasn’t enough to for Init to win it (I know, I know) but it was a bloody good effort all the same.

Congratulations Coys and DenPerryDidit. Perhaps it would have been better if Init had won, because now he needs to provide not one but two suitable prizes for your achievements, over to you boss! Email the site please both.

    Hey lads. Just wanted to say thanks to all the brilliant writers on the site as well as the folks who run it day in and day out. And to everyone who has given feedback to my questions as well. Always a pleasure to come on here, read the articles and join in on the discussion. Although my overall ranking wasn’t anything to write home about, I was able to win my ML and that’s defo thanks to the folks and info I’ve gotten here!

    Not to jump the gun but anyone started plotting their 2018 World Cup Fantasy strategy? Looking at the groups and fixtures, there are certainly a few teams that scream LOAD UP ON ME. France, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, Germany and dare I say England? But w/ individual players like Messi, Ronnie, Salah, Suarez, Mane, Eriksen, Bernardo Silva, Son, Shaqira, Lewanbrewski, and good ole Nicklas Bendtner (just kidding on the Lord), it’s gonna be a headache trying to put a team together without pulling out your hair!! And I’m already thinning on top from the frustrating FPL season I had this year…

    In any case, thanks again lads, keep up the good work, and really looking forward to the World Cup articles!!

      @FC Sanchez, if they release the stupid game, it be easier to start planning. I am going through the South American sides right now and have kinda figured out something close to their XIs and probable set piece takers. But, is not like I will ever remember to make subs, so any planning will go to waste. sad

      • FC Sanchez says:

        Mito–yeah, don’t see any mention of it anywhere which is worrying. It was already available this time last WC. And speaking of South American sides, please tell Colombia to take it easy on Japan in their opening fixture. You guys killed us last WC. :’-(

        • inittowinit says:

          Really can’t see them not doing one Sanchez. I’ll check the Polish Pi?karzyki thing as a back up anyway. It was actually a better site anyway.

        • inittowinit says:

          Hmmm. Not sure Pi?karzyki are. There’s no mention of it although I’m not reading it in English and strangely it’s asking for a Code Word to access the English version. I’ve DM’d them but they haven’t tweeted since December so I’m not holding my breath on that avenue.

        • We will find somewhere to play, we have an awesome IT guy, if he has to come up with a game in 2-3 days he will, I say that judging by how quickly he does the other stuff around the site. 😉

        • FC Sanchez says:

          Haha, nice! Footy just ain’t the same without Fantasy (as long as I do well).

        • inittowinit says:

          Sanchez! Perfect timing. We have every group covered expect H. Fancy doing it?

        • inittowinit says:

          Email me if you do please. Mito has done Colombia already so it’s just 2 teams plus Japan really.

        • FC Sanchez says:

          Sure. What’s your email? Japan is easy. They sacked their coach a few weeks back so there’s no hope. Pretty much sums it up.

        • inittowinit says:

          Just sent you an email now mate #Hi!

    Thanks to all for the fun ride!

  3. 9

    FRANCE WC squad released.
    No Lacazette & no Martial !!

    The full squad:

    Goalkeepers:
    Alphonse Areola (PSG), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille);

    Defenders:
    Lucas Hernandez (Atletico Madrid), Presnel Kimpembe (PSG), Benjamin Mendy (Manchester City), Benjamin Pavard (Stuttgart), Adil Rami (Marseille), Djibril Sidibe (Monaco), Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid);

    Midfielders:
    N’Golo Kante (Chelsea), Blaise Matuidi (Juventus), Steven N’Zonzi (Sevilla) Paul Pogba (Manchester United), Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich)

    Forwards:
    Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Nabil Fekir (Lyon), Olivier Giroud (Chelsea), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Thomas Lemar (Monaco), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Florian Thauvin (Marseille).

    Reserves:
    Wissam Ben Yedder (Sevilla), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) Benoit Costil (Bordeaux), Mathieu Debuchy (Saint-Etienne), Lucas Digne (Barcelona), Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal), Anthony Martial (Manchester United), Adrien Rabiot (PSG), Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace), Moussa Sissoko (Tottenham), Kurt Zouma (Stoke City – on loan from Chelsea).

    • 9.1

      Surprised Rabiot didn’t make it. Mendy being on it a bit of a surprise, he has barely played in the last 9 months. I wonder if Laporte moving to City cost him a chance?

      • Dembele is the biggest surprise,tbh…
        Rarely gets a chance @Barsa.
        Also, can’t really understand how Giroud gets the nod before Lacazette !

        Also missing :
        Koscielny-injured
        Payet-injured (feel sorry for him,he had a very good season)
        Benzema (frozen out of the squad since 2015)

        • Benzema is shite. smile

          Dembele was fantastic at Dortmund, guessing Deschamps is basing it on what he thinks he can get out of him.

        • Dembele is a great tallent, no doubt.
          But he is over-priced…deffo not worth 150mil.

          He was injured right after he joined Barsa & rarely gets a chance upfront @Barsa.

          Barsa has already started offering him to other clubs (on loan) -> take Liverpool for an example…

        • Elleffcee says:

          Rumour Klopp wants Dembele.

        • You just started that rumour after HL posted that. At least that’s the rumour I heard.

        • @Elle – Dembele has been offered to LIV & Klopp likes him a lot.
          A loan has been proposed.
          Not sure if LIV can match the full buying price (whatever the discount from Barsa).

          Nabil Fekir is the “exciting” rumour flying around these days.

          A few (reliable) sources from Italy are saying LIV is interested to offer 2yr deal to Buffon and it is a deal(club) he respects a lot.

          Also, Mino Raiola is flying around Europe offering Donnarumma and Justin Kluivert to both PSG & LIV.

        • AT says:

          I know longer bother to keep up with football gossip. Everyone is linked with everyone. I dare say much of the ‘gossip’ produced is fake. All about getting clicks.

        • @AT – I know mate…
          A lot of it is fabricated crap !

          My point is not to post fake news…
          But to “dig dip” into all the balls**t , check multiple “reliable” sources from different countries…
          And believe me,Ive become an expert over the past few yrs 😉

        • AT says:

          Hmmm, seems to me this expert has just found ways of covering his arse: ‘not sure’, ‘exciting rumour’, ‘interested in offering’ laugh

        • Frenchie says:

          A lot of choices that I don’t really understand/like: Thauvin, Rami…
          Giroud has always been very good with France and he’s part of Deschamps system, so that’s not surprising to have him. But he doesn’t have a like for like replacement, Lacazette could have been useful there. Instead he took Thauvin who is shite.

        • Frenchie says:

          Really sad for Payet too

        • DMC says:

          Karma is a bitch in deed

        • @Franchie, I don’t know if you know this, but this site is Giroud’s biggest backer. Think he has made every GABO article we have ever written. Yes, we mostly talk about his looks, nevertheless he is always mentioned.smile

        • Frenchie says:

          Hence my plan to get a Giroud grav for next year, Mito smile

          Reading the French squad again, actually nothing is too shocking, we just have to accept that our defense is rubbish and that we are not part of the favourites. Only Germany, Spain and Brazil are in my mind.

        • @Frenchie, Think we completely agree on them 3. I have Uruguay as a possible sneaky semis team. I think they are very good, assuming Suarez doesn’t bite anyone in the group stages…again.

        • DMC says:

          I don’t have Spain down as top 3 favorite here. They lack depth imo. That could change if Lopetegui plays Costa and if he can stay healthy.
          Germany are obviously a strong team but also one capable of losing when you don’t really see it coming. Brazil is the favorite on paper but they too will have to hit the ground running with key players recently injured. All pretty much wid open imo and Belgium is my black horse. Surely they have to do something relevant with all the talented they have.

        • FC Sanchez says:

          DMC– Yup, hope Belgium do well. What were they thinking appointing Robert Martinez tho. He comes across well as a pundit and in interviews (seems smart and articulate) but idk when it comes to his tactical nous. And no world cup experience. Pity as they’ve got the players most of whom are reaching their peak!

    Hello, everyone! This is my first post in this site – actually migrated from FFF (unfortunately it has been closing) after 4 years of entertainment. Looking forward to enjoy the games along with new friends/managers and oldies from FFF (who already joined) as well. As an avid football lover, right now busy with FMLS (can’t miss the footie during FPL Holidays) and looking forward to Fifa WC 2018 next and so on and on…. smile
