Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1

And we are off!! Another season of bitter FPL disappointment for most gets rolling when Leicester travels to Old Trafford to take on Jose’s happy warriors. That Friday night fixture is followed by six more on Saturday.

A lunch time affair sees Newcastle and Spurs face off in the battle of who spent the least this transfer window. That is followed by The Cherries vs newcomers Cardiff. Fulham who is also recently promoted, tangle with Palace, Huddersfield plays host to Sarri-ball, Watford dukes it out with Brighton and in the late game we get a first look at the much talked about Wolves side when they face off vs Everton.

Sunday brings us the last three fixtures. Liverpool begin what promises to be an exciting season that is likely to end the same as most, not good enough to win anything. They will take on a new look Hammers team, that 1:30 game is accompanied by a match only a mother could love when Saints take on Burnley. The gameweek is closed out by the best game on paper. When the champions travel to the Emirates to clash with the Wenger-less Gunners.

Lots of people going for Neves from the off – the guy that scored 6 last season.
No doubt he’s a decent player and probably will score the odd worldy and be MOTM in a few games but he’ll probably be more of an assist to the assist and Jimenez, Jota or Costa will benefit more.
    Wait and see for me

      constantine says:

Agreed. Lot many Knee-jerk transfers to be seen this week.

      • MadHatter says:

Pereyra or Fraser would be better shouts in the long run I reckon but certainly not after the very first weekend.
Btw this is from probably the biggest point hitter on the boards … I’m taking a different approach this season and it’s already hell!

      Kralin says:

I agree. And Wolves’ fixtures are not great.

I had him in my draft for a bit due to his domination of dead ball duties. Will just monitor a bit more.

      Terminators says:

What other good £5m MID’s are there though, Jorginho, Kante of course but only the latter is seemingly going to have a more pushing forward role now Jorginho is in the team, McArthur maybe and there is Cairney, people keep saying that Fulham have easier games coming than Wolves, but I cannot see that.

      • MadHatter says:

You maybe correct but say you have Richarlison and u find out he won’t play next game or someone else gets Ill or Neves himself takes hold of half a million balloons on a bet and floats off into the stratosphere?

        • Terminators says:

In the case of Cairney > Neves.
Fulham did nothing at home to Crystal Palace.
Wolves drew 2-2 at home to Everton.

Everton have spent a fortune, Neves got a lot of mentions in the commentary of the game, Wolves strolled the Championship with Neves in the team.
Fulham has spent a fortune, Cairney hardly got a mention and did nothing in the game, Fulham finished 3rd in the Championship.
I could very well be wrong, but Fulham should have done better against Crystal Palace and with all the players Fulham have brought in is Cairney going to keep his place.
Using a FT to bring in a player that is about to go out of reach if you don’t have MITB is a no-brainer to me especially if you think he has a chance of doing better than a current player you have.
I don’t want to fall out about this, football is all about opinions.

        • Terminators says:

If I have a player that is injured for three to four game weeks or more then I will drop them if I can afford the money to get them back, if they are out for a week or so then I will keep them.
I won’t be able to afford Neves if I don’t get him before his price goes up.

        • Terminator

No one is falling out mate and you’re reasoning for justifying your move is sound, in fact I wonder why you didn’t start the season with Neves over Cairney in that respect.

However, I would point out that there’ll be another player grabbing next week’s headlines and suddenly he’ll be the next must have.

And saying that Fulham should have done better against Palace than Wolves should have against Everton is flawed. There are no like for like comparisons in this league because each game is so difficult with varying consistencies each week. There may be an argument to say in fact that Palace are more settled than Everton currently.

Good luck with Neves, I admit he does look interesting.

        • Kralin says:

I think what you say is fine Terminators but I think you’d be the first to agree that you make very hasty transfer decisions, based on very little evidence and often based solely on what’s happened that GW.

One game, for me anyway, simply isn’t enough time to get a sense of how teams and the players within them are going to perform. There are loads of things that most sides will need to iron out.

But, clearly, you play the game differently to that and fair enough, go for it. At the very least you’ll benefit from a Neves price rise, and that’s no bad thing.

        • roccerfeller says:

I took a gamble with Costa of the wolves

      • mkencon says:

The Barry Douglas transfer boosted his value a bit since Douglas took some set pieces. With that said, I’m saving my transfer despite having £0.5 ITB and Schneiderlin as my fifth midfielder. So much like you, I’m going to wait and see, especially with Man City looming in GW3 and United in GW6

      • Kralin says:

You forget – must have been an oversight – the mighty Hughes of Watford, my current 5m star. The more challenging the fixture the greater he becomes.

He could, if truth be told, be the first casualty from my side come the end of GW2, but I like to give my players a good run.

      banjomaker says:

Do we think Jota to Neves is too sideways? Really tempting to bank 1.5!!!

    • 289.5
      inittowinit says:

Hatters, I think the 5.0 price tag is persuasive in this, in respect of those looking at him for a 6.5 anyway.

His stats didn’t stack up to Jota’s last season but don’t forget Jota played as a central striker then, mainly. He won’t be that this season.

Not saying go get him on the basis of one game or anything of course. But if you want to take it outside then bring you can bring your fcking dinner etc 😉 #JohnSitton smile

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Jota didn’t play mainly as a central striker last season, he played mainly as a left winger, played quite a lot as a striker but mainly as a winger! He scores goals from both positions, though, as even when he’s on the wing, he’s very central in many attacks! So with him you’re reliable on pens (if he’s still on them) and freekicks, plus assists… Might not be a bad thing, and he’s such a player who gets

I think Neves has never scored a goal inside the box in his career, they’re all from outside the box (except pen/FKs)… Might not be a bad thing, and he’ll surely get a lot of bonus points too! But I can’t see Neves our scoring Jota in the long run! Of course that 1.5m could play into the equation, and Neves might be a better option (value wise) than Jota, but no one knows yet!!!

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Aaah… That “ So with him you’re reliable on pens (if he’s still on them) and freekicks, plus assists… Might not be a bad thing, and he’s such a player who gets” part was meant for Neves, obviously!

        • Kralin says:

It was his dead ball genius that led to me having him in my draft. But then my snobbishness and unease about newly-promoted teams did for him.

    Evening all,

After today I defo want mendy I there so thinking if playing 4-4-2 to have him as I feel he’ll outside any 6.0 midfielder.

Looking to downgrade Eriksson for the funds. Need 1.5 So eriksen to pogba is a possibility.

    Good move or Not?

    Cheers

    bees323 says:

Help! Who would be a better swap…Davis Luiz for Mendy or Stephens for Neves?
    Thanks

    • 291.1
      • Kralin says:

Getting Mendy would mean doubling on the Man Cit defence, maybe no bad thing but you’ll close the door on further attacking players.

Neves has some pretty awful fixtures on the horizon so I’d prioritise increasing the Man City ranks in your side.

      • MadHatter says:

I would hold fire and see the lay of the land in GW3 with 2 free transfers

      • EBC says:

You need more depth in midfield. I’d ditch Auba for someone like Vardy and update Schneiderlin to Richarlison.

        • Kralin says:

Vardy is a good idea, as is Maddison (potentially). The times I’ve had Vardy in in the past he’s seldom let me down. Leicester players are well under the radar at the moment. I’ll be very interested to see what happens in their next couple of games.

They have quite a nice run of games from GW5.

  4. 292
    igy4 says:

Not a bad start to the season, took 76 from gw1 which I think anyone would take if offered before! I’m not looking to do anything rash with my team but can anyone suggest anything needed for gw2? If anyone is in the know regarding Fulham, will Sessegnon likely play LB in the next game? I heard there was an injury so he may be utilised there, in which case I may look at transferring him out.

    • 292.1
      Rosco says:

It’s interesting to see how people view their GWs! I got 75 and I’m devastated!!!

    • 292.2

Nothing to panic about igy. See how things are at the end of the week.

      Good score pal.

    • 292.3
      Kralin says:

I’d leave it for GW2 and then start planning to get another City player in for GW3 and beyond.

    • 292.4
      igy4 says:

I think you have to look at it in isolation Rosco, ignoring what everyone else has got. What would you consider a fair/good/excellent gameweek score. If someone offered you 75 points from gameweek 1 on Friday morning would you be happy?

I’m uncertain on another Man City attacker only for the fact of the huge rotation that is posed each week. My luck would be having two players that are both benched when there may be other options who will play regularly and be in the action. Now I’m not saying don’t have City attackers as I believe they are a necessity, but I can take the hit on the fact I have one player who may be benched now and again but I see more value in someone like Eriksen who you know will get game time and likely be in the action as opposed to Sane/Mahrez who may only play one game in two!

I was going to knee jerk on Cairney to Neves but am hoping to bank the transfer. Sound move?

Joe Hart got a clean sheet.
    Good on ‘im.
I think Dyche is a good judge of character and he’ll get a few more this season.
