FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Hello and welcome to Around The Grounds, let’s go and see what the managers had to say this week… Oh no, hang on, this looks different! After years of Cookie toiling to visit 20 press conferences every week and bringing you all the latest team news we have decided to step it up a notch this season. We are actually going to put that news into practice and try to predict the most likely line-up for each team based upon it. It’s a big step, and a perilous one! So welcome to the new Fantasy Football Team News and Predicted Line-ups for the 2017/18 season!

This is how it will work:

  • The article will forever live in the menu at the top of the page. Bookmark this page or add to your favourites…
  • Once we feel it is almost complete we will ‘publish’ it on a Friday as per your normal Around The Grounds one.
  • Each team will have a ‘Last Updated’ time stamp on so you know exactly how current the information is.
  • Team news from the press conferences will be bullet pointed next to each line-up.
  • Once it is ‘live and published’ on a Friday we will still alter it based upon any fresh information which arises from credible outside sources or indeed from comments on the site itself, so you have a part to play in this too.

The biggest ‘part’ may relate to the previous ‘perilous’ comment though! We won’t be 100% accurate on this. Nobody ever is, it’s our best educated guess given the information available. We have a fantastic community on FF247 so we don’t envisage many “but you said he’d start” moments, but let’s face it, it’s tempting! Yeah, we get it… It’ll happen. Just remember that we are trying to help, not hinder.

We hope you like our new look attempt at weekly team news, please get involved as ever and if you see anything of interest post it. Or just carry on as you were with comments, discussion and the usual Friday RMT requests.

  • Ramsey has trained all week and could displace Elneny in the Xi.

  • Jermain Defoe is likely to start after recovering from a tight groin, hence his benching last weekend.
  • Simon Francis is a doubt – a late decision will be made on him, with Adam Smith ready to step up if required.
  • Junior Stanislas and Calum Wilson remain sidelined.

  • Loan signing Izzy Brown has returned to Chelsea to have his hamstring injury assessed.
  • Anthony Knockaert is therefore likely to start on the right of midfield having come on as a late substitute against City.
  • Record signing Jose Izquierdo has been granted a work permit but is unlikely to feature against Leicester.
  • Glenn Murray is in line for a recall to the first XI having replaced Tomer Hemed after an hour against City.
  • Beram Kayal and Sam Baldock continue to miss out through injury.

  • Burnley may well stay unchanged given the fantastic result they achieved on the opening day away at Chelsea.
  • They have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the West Brom clash.
  • Jonathan Walters may have to be content with another spot on the bench unless Sean Dyche decides to opt for two up top at home.

Current form: W

Chelsea

Morata     Batshuayi

Willian

Alonso     Kante     Luiz     Moses

Christensen        Rudiger        Azpilicueta

Courtois

AWAY – Spurs Sunday 20th August 16:00

Last Updated: Friday 18th August 2017

  • Conte has some work to do to decide how to set up for Sunday’s Wembley date with Spurs. The Blues are short in midfield and defence due to injury and suspension and weak up front with Alvaro Morata still not as fit as Conte would like and the stand-off with Diego Costa seemingly unresolvable.
  • With Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas suspended, David Luiz could step into midfield alongside N’Golo Kante with Andrea Christensen joining Antonio Rüdiger and César Azpilicueta in the back 3 – Victor Moses is at least available to return following his suspension.
  • Tiemoué Bakayoko and Eden Hazard both played in a midweek friendly but are not expected to start – of Bakayoko, Conte says, ‘I’m concerned – there is a risk when you put players in early as it makes the injury risk high’, while Hazard ‘needs time to be fully fit’.
  • Pedro trained this morning but felt pain in his ankle and is a doubt.

Current form: L

Crystal Palace

Schlupp        Benteke        Loftus-Cheek

AWAY – Liverpool Saturday 19th August 15:00

Last Updated: Friday 18th August 2017

  • Having started on the bench last weekend Andros Townsend could very well replace Joel Ward at right wing back.
  • Alternatively Fosu-Mensah could start at right wingback allowing Townsend to play on the right of the front 3. This would likely see James Tomkins come into the back 3.
  • Should this happen one of Jason Puncheon or Ruben Loftus-Cheek could drop to the bench.
  • Both Yohan Cabaye and James McArthur could be ready for a place on the bench having played 45 minutes for the under-23s on Monday night.
  • De Boer confirmed that Wilfried Zaha is out of the Liverpool game but said he had no idea how long he will be out for. In the absence of Zaha Jeffrey Schlupp could very well be given an opportunity on the left side of the front 3.
  • Despite last week’s defeat Ronald de Boer confirmed he has no intention of changing the 3-4-3 formation.

  • Robert Huth returned to training this week and played 60 minutes for the under-23s on Monday night.
  • Both Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra are ruled out of this one. Drinkwater trained with the squad this week and Iborra will hopefully train next week.
  • Iheanacho is a doubt for the game due to a toe injury. This should see Shinji Okazaki partner Jamie Vardy up front.

  • Jurgen Klopp might be tempted to freshen things up with one eye on the 2nd leg of their Champions League qualifier next Wednesday.
  • Alberto Moreno has looked shaky at best and Klopp might be tempted to start either James Milner or Andrew Robertson. Although Klopp feels that Robertson is still adapting to Liverpool’s style of play.
  • In midfield Jordan Henderson looked off the pace on Tuesday night. This might see either James Milner or Marko Grujic brought into the starting XI.
  • Philippe Coutinho is once again ruled out with a back injury
  • Should Klopp decide to rest any of his front 3 Daniel Sturridge or Dominic Solanke could come into the team.
  • Both Sadio Mane and Emre Can sat out training on Thursday, however this was just to aid their recovery from the Hoffenheim game.
  • Adam Lallana remains out.

  • Gundogan is hoping to rejoin the team after the break.
  • Pep said that Benjamin Mendy was not 100% yet, but was almost ready to play after his injury, and the same went for Fabian Delph.
  • Sane and Sterling remain a possible alternative for Pep in a number of different positions.

  • Shelvey is banned and that should see newcomer Mikel Merino make his way into the XI.
  • Yedlin still remains out, but it is now ramping up his work and should be close to rejoining the side.
  • Clark will probably move over to left back to take the place of the injured Dummett and Lascalles and Mbemba should be the CB pairing.
  • New man Joselu is likely to at the very least make the bench and could possibly see some minutes with his new club.

Current form: L

  • Virgil van Dijk has recovered from his illness but is not yet available for selection.
  • Ryan Bertrand has recovered from the knock which saw him substituted late on last weekend.
  • New signing is Mario Lemina in line to make his debut. It is expected he will replace Steven Davis in the starting XI.
  • Having impressed off the bench last week Sofiane Boufal could come into one of the attacking midfield positions with Ward-Prowse & Tadic most at risk. Davis could also be considered for an attacking midfield position.
  • Despite not scoring against Swansea it is expected that Gabbiadini will once again get the nod over Charlie Austin.

  • Fernando Llorente has returned to training but Clement said “it’s too soon for (him) and he won’t be ready for the weekend”.
  • The team should remain the same then unless Roque Mesa replaces Leon Britton, but seriously now, who cares either way.

  • Kiko Femenia and Sebastian Prodl are expected to replace Kaboul and Janmaat in defence.
