FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups Gameweek 28

Welcome to Gameweek 28. Leicester gets us rolling with a 5 goal game from Vardy when they dismantle Stoke. That lunch time affair is followed by five 3pm fixtures. Bournemouth welcome in big spenders Newcastle, Brighton tangle with manager of the centrury Carvalhal and his Swans, Burnley and Saints bore fans to sleep, Liverppol scores a baker’s dozen vs the Hammers and Pardew and his mighty Baggies tussle with Huddersfield. The late game sees Deulofeu’s past vs his soon to be past square off when Watford go at it with Everton.

Sunday gives us two fixtures. Palace take on Spurs and the beautiful game blesses us with another look at the elegant, silky just plain beatutifully playing Manchester United side, when they face off versus a Chelsea side that hasn’t recovered the flair they once had since Jose left them.

Thursday sees off the GW, with Arsenal fans observing old man Cech digging the ball from the back of his net over and over and over again when they get slapped silly by a mad City.

  • Kinda of hard to gauge much from a presser six days before their actual GW fixture.
  • What we do know is that Lacazette and Cazorla are out.
  • Ramsey should be fit, having said that, we are talking about Ramsey, so plenty of time for him to injure himself.
  • Ozil sounds ok after battling an illness throughout the week, guessing it was a case of lazy eyes.

  • Last time out Bournemouth were well and truly hammered by Huddersfield of all teams and as a result Eddie Howe might be tempted to make some changes. Not that he gave anything away in his press conference.
  • According to Howe, Bournemouth are in pretty good shape. Interestingly he said that they have “picked up a couple of knocks” since their last game. Unfortunately he didn’t feel the need to tell us who had picked up these knocks!
  • Ryan Fraser has performed admirably at wing back of late but Howe might be tempted to bring in Adam Smith, who is more naturally suited to the position, back into the starting XI.
  • Such a move would then create even more competition further forward as Stanislas, King, Ibe & Fraser would be competing for the two spots in support of Callum Wilson.
  • Howe confirmed that Jermain Defoe is “not too far away” following his return to full training this week and he could make the bench this weekend.

  • The Seagulls face the resurgent Swansea – led by Carlos ‘I don’t believe in statistics’ Carvalhal – this weekend, following their 3-1 win against Coventry in the FA Cup that will see them play Man United in the next round.
  • Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, Chris Hughton confirmed Jiri Skalak and Steve Sidwell are still ruled out of action, however everyone else is still available for selection.
  • Tim Krul will return to the bench after being forced off in FA Cup match with a neck injury.
  • “It’s another massive game this weekend but they all are,” the Brighton manager said, adding: “The change in manager has changed their mood [Swansea City]. The wins against big sides have spurred them on”

  • James Tarkowski is touch and go along with Scott Arfield who is also a doubt.
  • Tom Heaton is edging closer and closer to starting but Dyche says he is still a few games away from coming back into the first team squad.

  • Conte reports no fresh injuries.
  • Gary Cahill sat out the midweek draw with Barcelona and could return in place of either Rudiger or Christensen.
  • Either Giroud or Morata could start up front – Conte talked up Giroud specifically in his presser and said he is ‘in contention to start’. Thanks.
  • Chelsea haven’t won any of the last four at Old Trafford and lost 2-0 there last season.

  • Roy was his usual positive self this afternoon! “No one is back from injury. That’s 12 senior players injured. It’s a very difficult period, the only two we will get back in the next week or so is Kelly, Schlupp, and then maybe Sakho and Ward.”
  • We’re not quite sure what the issue with Joel Ward is but if he’s out Fosu-Mensah is likely to revert to right back with Jairo Riedewald slotting in at centre back.
  • Hodgson on Zaha: “Wilf is doing very well. We think we might get him back sooner, and that’s credit to him and the staff.”
  • Given the current injury crisis the front six is unlikely to change from the loss to Everton.

  • Having beaten Palace 3-1 in their last game Allardyce is unlikely to make too many changes.
  • He will however be forced into some changes at the back as Mangala has been ruled out and Seamus Coleman also looks set to miss out. Ashley Williams appears the most likely to start in place of Mangala while Jonjoe Kenny is likely to start at right back.
  • Allardyce couldn’t confirm if Mangala’s knee injury was season ending but did say that they were looking for a 2nd opinion.
  • Funes Mori will play for the U23s again this week and all going well then be back in contention for the first team.
  • Leighton Baines has a chance of making the squad this weekend.
  • Morgan Schneiderlin missed the warm weather training camp in Dubai as he had to attend a family matter in France.
  • Expect Gueye and Davies to start in midfield but don’t be surprised should Davies and Rooney switch positions during the game.
  • Allardyce all but confirmed that Oumar Niasse will start this weekend. “His position at Everton has never been as good as it is at the moment. He has made it difficult for me to replace him.”

  • Morgan is available again after starting in the FA cup and showing he was ready to contribute.
  • Mahrez is back…until the next transfer window. Now that he is basically left without a choice expect to him slot back in into the xi.
  • James, Silva and Iborra continue to battle for one of the open midfield spots. Silva is the most talented, Iborra is a proven player, so expect James to start. Yeah, that’s how managers work.

  • He did however confirm that there are no real doubts – apart from a few sore bellies – ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Ham.
  • Having all but sealed qualification for the next round of the CL significant rotation over the coming weeks would seem unlikely.
  • After sitting out the past few games Joe Gomez is likely to start at right back ahead of Alexander-Arnold.
  • Can & Henderson would appear to be the most assured of starts in midfield with one of Wijnaldum, Milner or Oxlade-Chamberlain set to partner them.
  • Changes to the front 3 are unlikely.

  • Pep says “we will see tomorrow” about Jesus possibly being involved in the cup final, “Every day he is better.”
  • The gaffer says everyone else is ok. Mendy however still remains out and Delph slivered himself into a suspension, so he is also unavailable.
  • Oh dear, after saying everyone was ok, he then adds that Sterling has a muscle problem and he doesn’t know if he will be ready for the final. If he doesn’t make it into the 18 at the very least, could mean he is in jeopardy for GW28.
  • With the City squad coming closer and closer to having a fully fit squad it will get harder and harder to guess their XI, in particular when there is a lot of congestion in terms of fixtures.

  • Mourinho says no other players are ready to return, meaning Daley Blind, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marouane Fellaini remain sidelined.
  • Eric Bailly was on the bench in Spain but a lack of match fitness may stop Mourinho from starting him. Although one look at the Lindelof/Smalling partnership may change that.
  • United have lost just once at home this season and have kept a clean sheet in the last four at home.

  • Slimani is out and won’t be available for a couple of weeks., other than him only Gamez is out, rest of the squad is fully fit.
  • Shelvey is finally maturing (turns 26 in less than a week) with Rafa stating that “I try to trust him” so here is where we break out the old saying. “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me” and we add a third layer for this one “if Jonjo fools me a third time, I am an idiot”
  • Rafa says that Dummett is clever and left footed and that is rare in football now. Eh? Think Rafa needs to get out of Newcastle more or simply turn on a tv here and there.
  • When a defensive manager wins a game, they usually don’t mess with their team, so expect Rafa to run the same xi out this weekend.

  • Most club twitter accounts quite helpfully tweet a 1 or 2 minute sanitised version of their manager’s press conference. The main / pertinent bits. The only bits you need really. And we appreciate it and use it accordingly. Even this is too much with Saints really. If we had this guy as manager we’d be seriously tempted to delete our twitter account. Maybe even our club.
  • We quit reporting on Saints last week. It may have seemed ‘jokey’. It wasn’t. We were serious. Until the day we see a single comment on site with a Saints player even considered as an option again then the above line-up stands.

  • Whilst the arrival of Paul Lambert may have suggested a turning point for Stoke, the problems continue for the Potters who now find themselves 19th in the league with the worst goal difference.
  • With an unfavourable fixture to Leicester, the squad appears to be having trouble with injuries, as the manager explained: “We will check on them tomorrow – if they don’t come through we have a big enough squad to deal with it.”
  • Stephen Ireland is still injured, whilst Peter Crouch was described by Lambert as “doing well”, but won’t make the squad for Saturday’s match.
  • Bruno Martins Indi, however, is back in the squad and 18-year-old Tyrese Campbell, son of Kevin, could make an appearance on the bench.

  • Most club twitter accounts quite helpfully tweet a 1 or 2 minute sanitised version of their manager’s press conference. The main / pertinent bits. The only bits you need really. And we appreciate it and use it accordingly. Nobody needs to see or hear the boring crap. Not so with our hero Carlos! We make a butty, crack open a beer and kick back and watch the lot. Ans smile, and smile and smile…
  • This weeks nugget (pardon the pun) was eating chicken (which perked our interest, naturally). Paired with… statistics, naturally…! “If you and I go to a picnic and we take one chicken and I eat it all, statistically we have both eaten half a chicken but you have not had any”. Absolute gold this guy. Please, do yourselves a favour and just watch a press conference. It’ll explain (somewhat) why Swansea are now unbeaten in 10 games and have lost only 1 in 12 in total under Carlos.
  • Alfie Mawson is available after suffering a locked knee last week in the cup. Again this didn’t escape Carlos’ bizarre analogies as he waxed lyrical about Mawson ringing his wife to get the pincode for the ‘lock’ and now being fine having received it!
  • We don’t anticipate many changes to their line-up given how well it is working for them.

  • It looks like Javi Gracia will not have to resort to the under 23s this week to name a full bench for the tie against Everton with Heurelho Gomes, Miguel Britos, Will Hughes and Kiko Femenía all engaged in first-team training over the break. However, Gracia confirmed that none of them is 100% fit whilst also saying a lot without saying anything at all: ‘It is possible some of them go into the team. Tomorrow we will decide. It is possible they will be available to participate in the match.’ Right. I can now see why Kop said he would rather cover five teams than Watford.
  • Hughes’s long-term hamstring injury may well see him come off the bench, although one would expect him to start if deemed fit.
  • Stefano Okaka has finally realised that nobody wanted him in the transfer window after three weeks, and has put himself in contention for a starting berth. Troy Deeney is ‘perfect’. I am assuming Gracia was talking about his fitness there and not simply showing admiration for the striker.
  • Younès Kaboul, Nathaniel Chalobah, Tom Cleverley and Christian Kabasele all remain out. Craig Cathcart is still being kept out with the knee injury that he sustained at the start of the season and has fallen behind schedule.

  • Nacer Chadli, James Morrison and Daniel Sturridge are sidelined but the rest of the squad is available meaning that Kieran Gibbs is fit again and Jake Livermore comes into contention.
  • Pardew reports no fresh injuries and says his team needs to turn draws into wins if they are to avaoid relegation. It would appear that they first need to turn losses into draws bearing in mind the Baggies have lost their last three. But Pards knows best.

  • Arthur Masuaku is still serving his six-match suspension.
  • He added that Manuel Lanzini has been ‘running around’ (at least try and make it sound like you know what you are doing, David) and that Winston Reid will be in the match-day squad.
  • Lanzini could well get a starting spot, which would likely see Chicharito drop to the bench with Marko Arnautovic taking in the no.9 role.
  • Jose Fonte was confirmed to be close to a move to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, so it is unlikely that he will feature in the foreseeable future.

Seriously though, covering an irrelevant team can be tedious but at least most managers give you something to work with, this guy just doesn’t, he’s dull as dishwater. They broadcast it on periscope and it’s a PR disaster as it allows live comments and it’s all just fans posting venomous comments against him, live.

      • Horse says:

On paper they have a fairly decent team and they should not be in such a low position. I actually work in Southampton and regularly have chats with their fans who are never happy with a top half finish and want to finish higher, which is delusional.
Getting rid of Puel was a mistake.
Maybe they cant keep selling all their best players to the Scousers and keep getting away with it.
The dream scenario is for them to go down and us to go up through the play offs and play again next season. Even some of their fans want this
