FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups Gameweek 17

Welcome to Gameweek 17. After only 2 days rest we get rolling again. Surprising 7th place Burnley start the GW when they take on Stoke, that fixture is followed up by Palace versus Watford and Huddersfield taking on Chelsea.

Wednesday hits us with 7 fixtures. Toon tries to stop Sam’s blue army, Saints battle Leicester and Swansea tangle with City “The New Invincibles”. In other action we get another look at Lovren’s defending versus The Baggies, United try to get a shot off in the first half when they face Bournemouth, Spurs beats up Brighton and the born again Hammers face off against the worst of the top teams in Arsenal.

  • Mustafi and Ramsey are out. On Ramsey Wenger did say “Hamstring, a short period, it’s not a long one.” Also said Mustafi had a chance for the Newcastle game.
  • The boss did mention that Giroud was not his side chick, that he was his regular girl. Saying “He is not a sub for me, he is a regular player”
  • On possible rotation, Wenger would not tip his hand saying that he had not made that decision yet.
  • Santi Cazorla remains out, but besides the two above and the Spaniard everyone should be available.

  • Eddie Howe reports no new injuries, though he admits the squad has ‘a few tired legs and a few knocks’.
  • Callum Wilson could start instead of Jermain Defoe.
  • Adam Smith is available again after serving his suspension and could challenge Simon Francis or Steve Cook at the back if Howe looks to freshen things up.
  • Tyrone Mings has suffered a setback in his recovery and is set to see a specialist. Adam Federici and Brad Smith remain out.
  • Howe said Harry Arter will get opportunities over the next few game-weeks – the form of Andrew Surman and Lewis Cook has kept Arter out of the team for the last couple of matches.
  • The Cherries have won just one of the four meetings between the two in the Premier League but did hold United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last season.

  • Oh, guess what… Brighton have no new injury concerns. For the love of God, WILL SOMEONE JUST TWEAK A CALF OR GET A RED CARD PLEASE!!!
  • Izzy Brown and Ezequiel Schelotto (who?) played on the respective flanks last week. Expect some combo of Solly March / Jose Izquierdo / Anthony Knockaert to replace them this time.
  • Glenn Murray may also finally be given a rest with Tommer Hemed coming in to replace him. Maybe.

  • Sean Dyche says that Matt Lowton is close to a return but that’s unlikely to be against Stoke.
  • A decision is still to be taken on Ben Mee closer to kick-off with Kevin Long set to start again should Mee be ruled out.
  • Reports at the weekend suggested Jon Walters could go out on loan in January but Dyche played down the speculation claiming “that would be speculation for an unfit player who is just getting fit again.”

  • Conte revealed that Alvaro Morata has been ruled out of tonight’s trip to Huddersfield with a back injury and also fatigue, poor lad. Should have stayed at Madrid and relaxed on the bench.
  • Without Morata, Chelsea may play Eden Hazard as a false no.9 or recall Michy Batshuayi, who the manager reportedly doesn’t rate.
  • David Luiz remains out, while Danny Drinkwater has recovered from illness but is lacking match sharpness and very unlikely to start.
  • With Conte again talking tiredness, fatigue and rotation, Victor Moses and Antonio Rüdiger may get a start.
  • Chelsea haven’t met Huddersfield in the top-flight since 1972, so it’s pretty meaningless to look at fixture form.
  • What will concern Conte is the loss at West Ham was Chelsea’s fourth defeat already this season and with the Blues going into the game-week 14 points behind the leaders a victory is essential if Chelsea can hope to have any title ambitions.

  • Roy isn’t surprised that Palace are still bottom! The man is such a ray of sunshine.
  • Just as Palace were beginning to show some form they’ve lost influential defender Mamadou Sakho for a considerable period of time. “Sakho will be out for a long time…it’s a serious muscle tear in his calf…it’s weeks not days, I couldn’t say if it was months.”
  • Scott Dann is likely to replace Sakho at the heart of the defence. Martin Kelly is also an option.
  • Yohann Cabaye has recovered from the kick to his leg which forced him off at the weekend.
  • Joel Ward remains on the side-lines meaning Fosu-Mensah is likely to continue at right back.
  • Don’t expect Christian to take a penalty any time soon. Apparently he was very disappointed after his miss on Saturday!!

  • Big Sam refused to apologise for his tactics against Liverpool and in all fairness, why should he?
  • While Everton’s performance wasn’t overly convincing in the derby they will take a lot of confidence from the point and therefore we’re unlikely to see many changes to the XI.
  • Leighton Baines remains out so the disaster that is Cuco Martina is likely to start at left back again.
  • Having been out for just over a year Yannick Bolasie returned to action with the U23s on Monday night. Big Sam is obviously delighted to have him back but is conscious of the need not to rush him.
  • Don’t expect to see a huge amount of Klassen and Sandro over Christmas as Sam says “it’s difficult for a player from abroad to settle immediately”.

  • Wagner said “There is no news injury-wise regarding our squad after our last game against Brighton.”
  • Van La Parra is back from suspension and could make his way back into the starting XI.
  • Billing and Stankovic remain out, Hefele has started training with the group, but he doesn’t pose any danger to the starters even when he is 100% fit.
  • After a 2 goal performance Mounie could retain his spot in the XI, however be aware that Wagner does like rotating. Last two times he has had fixtures with only 3-4 days between games he has made six and four changes respectively from the previous fixture.

  • “There are no fresh injuries,” said Puel. “Robert Huth and Matty James have started to make training sessions on the pitch with the squad.” Don’t expect them in the squad just yet though.
  • Okazaki is available despite needing stiches above his eye.
  • Puel on his players “We start a busy period with all these games so it will be important for players to be fresh every time.”
  • Even with Puel having said that, expect him to throw out an XI with little rotation. He will want to win in Southampton badly and he doesn’t rotate much anyway. Fuchs or Chilwell being the main doubt and possibly Okazaki in for one of the 3 behind Vardy.

  • Klopp: “When you have the quality in the squad like we have you have to use it. You can’t use the same XI all the time.” It was the bloody derby Jurgen – you pick your best team!
  • Klopp wouldn’t put a definite timeline on Alberto Moreno’s return but he could be out for six weeks.
  • Klopp on Matip: Joel is not training. He’s running but he needs a bit longer.”
  • Klopp on Lallana: “Adam is back in training, completely normal, we have to see what we do with him.”
  • As the derby proved, trying to predict the XI Jurgen will field is becoming more difficult by the week.
  • We can certainly expect a couple of changes with Klopp claiming that 1 or 2 who started against Everton won’t play v West Brom.
  • At the back TAA could very well get the nod at right back as Joe Gomez has started the last few games.
  • Having been left out of the starting XI for the derby Coutinho & Firmino will be expected to return.
  • Don’t be surprised if either Mo Salah or Sadio Mane start from the bench.
  • In midfield both Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum could be brought in in place of Henderson & Oxlade-Chamberlain.
  • Despite an appearance off the bench on Sunday don’t expect to see a huge amount of Danny Ings over the coming weeks.

  • One would expect Aguero to start this one, having said that and to be transparent, I think I have missed on Jesus or Aguero starting the last 3 times, Pep seems to play the one that most of us expect to be benched. Damn you Pep!!
  • Another day, another Kompany injury. He is out for the Swans game, but Pep says it shouldn’t be too long. Kompany’s injuries usually can be figured out with the human to dog years formula. One day for most players equals seven for Kompany.
  • Benjamin Mendy remains out, but you will be glad to know he has taken social media game to another level with all the extra time on his hands. Stones is also out and still dull.
  • Most of the presser was focused on the celebrations after the game vs United, to be fair, City is playing Swansea this GW, so is not like that was an interesting subject.
  • Bernardo, Gundogan and Danilo not in the XI above are the most likely players to be used if Pep decides to rotate a touch more.

  • Victor Lindelof is also available as is Daly Blind.
  • Paul Pogba remains out through suspension, while Eric Bailly and Michael Carrick are again ruled out.
  • Don’t be surprised to see Mourinho tweak with the starting XI following Sunday’s gruelling defeat with the likes of Juan Mata pushing for a start.
  • Having lost their 40 match unbeaten record at home on Sunday, United will be keen to return to their winning ways.

  • Rafa: “Paul Dummett is getting better but still we have to wait. If everybody is available, hopefully we can be as solid as we were earlier in the season.”
  • Lascalles was “nearly there” vs Leicester according to Benitez, perhaps an indication that the skipper could be back in the XI this time around.
  • On Shelvey and Mitrovic that gaffer had this to say “Always I say the same: When players are on the bench, maybe they are not doing something right. When players are in the stands, maybe they are not showing the manager what he needs.” Which means Yedlin and Joselu must have some dirty pictures on Rafa then, otherwise they be sitting outside the stadium.
  • Every week Rafa is asked about the possible takeover and money to buy in January. Every week he gets more delusional, he pretends next to nothing is going on with the takeover and thinks he might get more than what he would get for a tip when he waits.

  • According to Mark Hughes, Stoke “didn’t do the right things” against Spurs. With such amazing insights it’s no wonder these top flight managers get paid big bucks!
  • Hughes hopes to do something about Saturday’s performance tonight.
  • Stoke have no fresh injury concerns “so everyone is available”. However Glenn Johnson is struggling with a knee injury and Jese “is still back at home”.
  • After making an appearance from the bench against Spurs Geoff Cameron could be in line for a start with Kevin Wimmer the one possibly to lose out.
  • Peter Crouch could earn a recall up front with Diouf moving to right wing-back.

  • It was refreshing to see a more upbeat Clement after they finally got a much needed win under their belts this weekend. Whether it was anything he did or simply the players realising that they could soon be playing for Pulis if they didn’t buck their ideas up a bit we may never know.
  • Wayne Routledge is a small doubt with muscle fatigue having made his return at the weekend. Tammy Abrahams will be looking for a recall at his expense should he not make it.
  • Federico Fernandez is back in contention for a recall having missed out recently for personal reasons. He may replace Hoorn but Clement was undecided.
  • You’d have to imagine they will stick as close as possible to the team which won on Saturday.

  • After having finally secured an unexpected win, Moyes will be reluctant to mess with the team too much. If at all.
  • Moyes “Cheik has returned to training a little bit so we’re hoping to get him back quite quickly. Chicha and Andy were back on the bench, but Collins is not ready.” He also added “We’re pretty much as we were, aside from Edi Fernandes hurting his ankle in training.” Wow, not sure what our other correspondent finds wrong with Moyes, this being my first time covering him, I find him delightful.
  • On Adrian and Hart, Moyes basically said Adrian is starting unless he himself is hired for the England job. Although he did say there would be games for Joe and by that he probably means cup games or scrimmages against the first team.
  • The search for Sam Byram continues, my guess is that he will turn up on the bench at some point in December and will then probably disappear again to some team in The Championship in January.
