AWAY – Chelsea Saturday 18th August 17:30

Last Updated: Thursday 16th August 2018

  • With Maitland-Niles now being out for 6-8 weeks after a fracture in his fibula and Kolasinac expected to miss until October, Emery will have to decide between Monreal and Lichtsteiner. With Nacho being back training since Saturday and being a natural left back, one would expect the Spaniard to have the inside track.
  • On Cech, the new boss had this to say “They have different qualities but for us in the way we want to play, they can [both] play. For Saturday, the decision for me is easy. Petr Cech can continue to start the match, I believe in him.” I imagine fans of any teams they play will also be for Cech starting.
  • Jenkinson is out for 6-8 weeks after suffering a bad sprain to his right ankle while Koscielny will remain out until November after an achilles injury.
  • Torreira could be ready to step into the holding role, while Lacazete will be hoping to get a start after a decent showing vs City in his minutes.
  • At some point they will bench Mkhitaryan, right? right? Then again they are starting Cech again, so I guess Mkhi could start again also. If this occurs this could mean possibly dropping Ramsey to a deeper role and forcing the youngster Guedndouzi or Xhaka to the bench depending on who was partenering Torreira.
  • Unai Emery on Lucas Torreira: “We can speak about the No 6, the No 8 and the No 10 [roles]. Torreira today is a six, eight. Normally every player has two positions – Torreira is six, eight. Xhaka maybe also six, eight. Matteo [Guendouzi] maybe six, eight or eight, six.” aha, aha. Let the man work, I say, mind blowing stuff.

AWAY – West Ham Saturday 18th August 15:00

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • No fresh injuries for the Cherries ahead of their trip to West Ham.
  • Jefferson Lima ‘could be involved’ vs the Hammers, with a place on the bench the likeliest scenario.
  • Diego Rico remains suspended and Junior Stanislas is injured.
  • Goals seem likely here – in 6 top flight fixtures between the two, 25 goals have been scored and Bournemouth has scored more Premier League goals vs West Ham than any other club.

AWAY – Man United Sunday 19th August 16:00

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Right back Bruno misses out due to a hamstring injury he picked up last weekend. However, Hughton did say that it’s not as bad as they first thought.
  • New signing Martin Montoya is expected to make his debut in place of Bruno.
  • Both Florin Andone and Jose Izquierdo will once again be unavailable, with Hughton saying they “are close to being back”.
  • Following a disappointing performance against Watford Hughton may be tempted to hand record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh a start in place of Anthony Knockaert.
  • Yves Bissouma may also be considered for a start in midfield.

HOME – Watford Sunday 19th August 13:30

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Burnley’s extra-time Europa win last night means their Thursday adventure continues, meaning predicting their line-up is not straightforward, although Sean Dyche does appear to be prioritising the league.
  • In that regard, James Tarkowski, Matt Lowton, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Chris Wood were all benched vs Basakehir, while Ben Mee got the night off.
  • Tom Heaton played for the U23s on Monday but with Joe Hart keeping 3 clean sheets in a row, Dyche won’t rush Heaton.
  • Nick Pope remains out and Robbie Brady and Steven Defour continue to build their fitness.
  • Burnley have beaten Watford in both home Premier League meetings between the two without conceding a goal.

HOME – Newcastle Saturday 18th August 12:30

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Colin proved last weekend what a ‘great’ PL manager he is when he played Sol Bamba in midfield! He’s unlikely to do that again!
  • Lee Peltier struggled last weekend and could be replaced in the starting XI by Jazz Richards.
  • Colin confirmed that Aron Gunnarsson will once again miss out due to a knee injury he picked in pre-season.
  • With Sol Bamba expected to drop back into the centre of defence, deadline day signing Harry Arter could make his debut and Colin claims that the Irish international can give them another dimension.
  • Striker Kenneth Zohore missed out last weekend with a groin strain and faces a late fitness test ahead of the game. Colin thinks that he will train today. You’d think the manager would know if his player is going to train. Colin is hopeful that Zohore will make the bench.
  • Finally, Colin is clearly trying to endear himself to the Newcastle fans, “If you look at their investment and the players, they are stronger than last year and they finished 10th, I’m not sure what more they want. I think Mike Ashley is an easy target, really.”

HOME – Arsenal Saturday 18th August 17:30

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Sarri confirms that Cesc Fabregas will be out of tomorrow’s game but hopes he will return to training next week.
  • Sarri feels Morata is a great player so obviously, he was dying for a cigarette and was not thinking clearly.
  • On Kovacic it looks like Sarri thinks he can contribute, but only 30 minutes or so this weekend.
  • When speaking about Kante perhaps he let us have a little insight on other players late arriving “Kante, for physical characteristics, is very quick to be ready to play. He played very well in the last match. He is ready. But, for the other players from the World Cup, I think it’s a little bit different.”
  • This could mean Hazard is not ready yet either. If he is not expect the same XI that started vs Huddersfield last weekend.

  • Hodgson confirmed that they “picked up a couple of knocks against Fulham, but these players are now fit.”
  • The new players are “coming along leaps and bounds.”
  • Jordan Ayew and Max Meyer are hoping to make the matchday squad. However, it’s unlikely that Hodgson will make any changes following last weekend’s win.
  • Hodgson on Wan-Bissaka, “He was very good in pre-season and his opening game was excellent. We believe he’s got the qualities to become a top right-back. We’re delighted with him.”

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Yerry Mina is unavailable due to a “small problem” in his foot.
  • Silva says it’s between Zouma and Mason Holgate to replace the suspended Phil Jagielka.
  • Silva on Bernard, “For all of the new players they have to show me that they are ready and better than the others. That is a normal thing in football.” Should Silva choose to start with Bernard you would have to assume that either Walcott or Sigurdsson would drop to the bench.
  • Silva on Richarlison, “Everything is okay with Richarlison.”
  • Andre Gomes could link up with the first team squad in training next week.
  • Cuco the clown has joined Stoke on a season long loan. Bolasie and Besic could also move on.

  • The centre-back problems continue for Fulham with Alfie Mawson and Tim Ream still sidelined and Denis Odoi suspended.
  • Joe Bryan, who sustained an ankle injury last weekend, was not mentioned as an absentee for the tie against Spurs.
  • Andre Anguissa will not be fit enough to start, although may come off the bench.
  • Jokanovic has already conceded that ‘Spurs will have possession’, so prepare for a bore fest.
  • The boss also reminded the journalists that Harry Kane has never scored in August. Mind games, we like it, Joka.

AWAY – Man City Sunday 19th August 13:30

Last Updated: Friday 17th August 2018

  • Zanka has picked up a muscle injury and he will miss the game this weekend.
  • Hogg has a hip issue and is a doubt for the game.
  • On Danny Williams, Wagner said ‘He is much further than I thought.
Now he is with us in training – not eve’ry single session, but 100% in every session he was with us. He needs some further games so our target is the Stoke game in the cup.’ Erik Durm is also to be back for the cup game too.
  • “With Zanka out injured, we have the option of changing formation, playing Jon Stanković or playing players who are also able to play in a centre-back role. We are focused on finding a solution.”
  • When commenting on his keepers, the gaffer said ‘Jonas made some further steps that I expected. He came late into the pre-season and not in the best shape but he is still catching up.
  • Depoitre could get the nod ahead of Mounie, because why not, it’s Wagner, is what he does, but for now we will say Mounie. If Hogg can’t go, Hadergjonaj could slide into the middle with Smith coming in on the right.

Last Updated: Thursday 16th August 2018

  • Matty James is still out, while Okazaki needs to build up fitness and is likely to feature with the u23s to get some minutes under his belt.
  • On Vardy, Puel said “We will see. He has trained. Good chance to start.”
  • Soyuncu is officially a Fox now, but he is still not fit and won’t feature versus Wolves.
  • Mendy should be available again after missing out vs United.
  • Pereira could retain his spot on the right wing or new signing Ghezzal could be given his first start after coming on as a sub for 27 minutes last week. Albrighton will alos be in contention for either spot, be it on the left or right of the 3 behind Vardy.
  • Jhonny Evans could come in for Morgan if he is fully fit now, the quicker he playes the quicker he can go back to being injured.

  • Klopp once again made reference to Rocky, “To stick with Rocky, he went down a few times but he won that fight.”
  • Dejan Lovren hasn’t trained.
  • Ragnar Klavan looks set to join Cagliari.
  • Klopp on Gomez, “I was never in doubt about his ability to play centre half, but he needed time after his injury. Playing full back will help him, but now he’s fit and a very good footballer. With VVD he had a very good understanding, which is really cool.”
  • Joel Matip will hopefully be in the squad on Monday night. He played 60 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly game on Wednesday. Sturridge, Henderson, Lallana, Shaqiri and Moreno also featured.
  • Should Klopp decide to make any changes either Jordan Henderson or Fabinho could start ahead of Wijnaldum or Milner.
  • Changes elsewhere appear unlikely.

  • Danilo remains unavailable and won’t be ready for at least a month.
  • City were frustrated at home vs Huddersfield last season, with the game ending 0-0 and Pep says he is expecting another tough test on Sunday.

  • Dismissing tabloid speculation of a rift between him and Paul Pogba, Mourinho says, ‘I couldn’t be happier with him than I am now’ and goes onto say the World Cup winner will continue to captain the side in the absence of Antonio Valencia.
  • The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini have benefitted from a full week of training and give Mourinho more starting options than he had last weekend.
  • Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Valencia are training with the team but not yet ready, while Sergio Romero. Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot remain out.
  • United lost at Brighton towards the end of last season, but previous to that had won the last four vs the Seagulls.

  • The weekend will come too soon for Yedlin, this should see Manquillo slide in at RB.
  • Rafa on his signings ‘The new signings have settled in well. Some of them who don’t know the PL like Schar & Muto might need a bit of time. Rondon, Ki & Fernandez already know it well.’
  • On the striker position Benitez said “It’s quite difficult… when a striker is scoring a goal, the other one’s coming on and pushing. Normally, what I do is wait and make the decision at the end, so nobody knows, everybody’s on their toes, and it’s good for the team.”
  • LeJuene is out for the foreseeable future after suffering a serious knee injury.
  • Cardiff manager thinks Toon fans should stop their bitching and just get on with it. “I’m not sure what more they want. I think Mike Ashley is an easy target, really.” you tell them Colin!

  • Armstrong has managed to recover from the knock that forced him to be replaced against Burnley so should start again this week.

  • Erik Lamela has recovered from a muscle injury and will be pushing Lucas Moura, who has also recovered from a knock, for a start in the three behind Kane with Hueng-Min Son now on international duty.
  • Harry Winks and Joshua Onomah are also in contention but the weekend comes too early for Victor Wanyama, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Juan Foyth.
  • Danny Rose and Kieran Tripper could push their way into the side, although we would expect Pochettino to favour the fully fit duo of Ben Davies and Serge Aurier.

  • Gracia on injuries “We have no news about injuries this week because the players were injured last week, they are still injured and no players have recovered for this game. Deulofeu, Chalobah, Tom Cleverley, Okaka are injured and we are waiting for next week.”
  • On Chalobah, Gracia remarked “he needs more time to improve his condition.”
  • After a win in their opener, one would not expect for the changes to be coming in, so expect close to the same XI as last week if not exactly it.
  • We hate you Watford, we really dislike you. Why someone can’t give everyone team news at the same time as all the other teams is beyond us.

HOME – Bournemouth Saturday 18th August 15:00

Last Updated: Thursday 16th August 2018

  • Pellegrini got his excuses out of the way early, urging fans to appreciate that it will be a number of players’ first game at the Olympic Stadium. That’s fair enough, but it is Bournemouth. Anything but a win would be unacceptable for a top six side like yourselves. Have we been spending too much time in pubs with West Ham fans?
  • Marko Arnautovic managed to shake off a minor knock to put himself in contention.
  • No new injuries – Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini remain out.
  • On the new arrivals, the boss suggested that it is a matter of waiting to see whether Carlos Sanchez and Lucas Perez ‘are able to go on the bench but I cannot say at this moment’.
  • Declan Rice and Jack Wilshere will hope to be given second chances in the starting line-up after their efforts against Liverpool came under scrutiny from pundits.
  • Felipe Anderson might start centrally as the manager will be looking to sneak Andriy Yarmolenko into his side.
