FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups Gameweek 38

Welcome to Gameweek 38. Instead of running through all the fixtures let us have Ol’ Blue Eyes bring us home.

And now, the end is near and so I face the final curtain…

As this FPL season comes to and end, I hope that we feel that through the good and even the bad that at least we did it our way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
and more, much more than this, I did it my way….

Sure there were moments where we wish we could take a move back, but in the end that is FPL and if mistakes were not part of the game, it wouldn’t make the moments we get it right so gratifying.

I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
and now as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
to think I did all that and may I say, not in a shy way
oh no, oh no, not me, I did it my way…

For what is a man, what has he got?
if not himself, then he has naught
to say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
the record shows I took the blows and did it my way

Yes, it was my way

  • Wenger bows out with a trip to Huddersfield hoping that he can finish with Arsenal’s first points on the road this year.
  • Expect Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Alexandre Lacazette to all start after the trio were rested in midweek while Jack Wishere could also feature after missing the defeat at Leicester due to the birth of his baby.
  • Konstantinos Mavrapanos misses out through suspension and Laurent Koscielny, Mohamed Elneny, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Özil all remain sidelined.

  • Having adopted a 3-4-3 formation for the last two games Eddie Howe will likely keep faith with that formation for Sunday’s visit to Turf Moor.
  • Howe confirmed in his press conference that “the ones that were out are still out”.
  • This means that Harry Arter, Junior Stanislas and Adam Smith will all miss the game.
  • Apparently there are one or two other knocks that will need to be checked on but Howe didn’t feel the need to inform us who might be carrying these knocks.
  • Having played the final couple of minutes from the bench last weekend Tyrone Mings might be handed a start in the back three.

  • No fresh injuries reported by Chris Hughton ahead of Sunday’s visit to Anfield.
  • Steve Sidwell is the only absentee.
  • The only dilemma is whether Hughton decides to rest some of his players who have performed so admirably vs Man Utd and Man City over the last week.
  • The Seagulls have lost five and drawn the other in their last six matches vs Liverpool, conceding 22 goals in the process.
  • Brighton, alongside West Brom, have scored the fewest away goals in the Premier League this season.

  • There are no reported injuries, but David Luiz and Danny Drinkwater remain out.
  • Chelsea have to win and hope Liverpool lose at home to Brighton for Conte to deliver Champions League football to the Bridge next season.
  • The Blues have won their last three away matches – however Chelsea haven’t won any of the last four at St James’ Park.
  • Olivier Giroud has scored eight goals in nine league matches vs the Toon.

  • Hodgson praised the work done by the clubs medical team. It’s only Scott Dann and Bakary Sako, both of whom are recovering from serious injuries, who are unavailable.
  • Therefore, we must assume that Joel Ward, who limped off with an ankle injury last weekend is available.
  • Hodgson will be keen to maintain the good form through to the final whistle of the season and as a result I don’t expect any changes. Famous last words!
  • Roy expects that Wilfried Zaha will still be a Palace player when next season begins! Hmmm…

  • Thankfully that’s the last I’ll see of Allardyce until August!
  • Apparently Wayne Rooney is set for showdown talks with Allardyce this morning over reports of a move to the MLS. Does anyone care?!
  • Allardyce didn’t mention whether any players were doubts for the game on Sunday so I’m not sure where that leaves us, but we’ll assume that Walcott and Rooney are doubts given that they missed 1-1 draw with Southampton.
  • Don’t be surprised should Allardyce opt to start with a back three, with Funes Mori starting in place of Bolasie. In fact, don’t be surprised should he make wholesale changes!

  • Jurgen Klopp was at pains to stress that the season was not yet over and his focus is entirely on Sunday’s clash with Brighton.
  • In typical Liverpool fashion they are going about things the hard way. CL football could have been sewn up 2-3 weeks ago, but oh no, Liverpool chose to bring it to the final day of the season. Numpties!
  • It does mean that Klopp is likely to play his strongest possible team.
  • Klopp described Adam Lallana as being “as fit as possible”. We’re not quite sure what that actually means, but if he’s available he’s likely to be given some minutes ahead of the CL final.

  • Mourinho is set to ring the changes for Sunday. Sergio Romero will play in goal leaving David de Gea owners in a state of panic as they look at their bench.
  • Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will also start, probably at the expense of Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard. Mourinho says Chris Smalling will be rested ahead of Wembley after the defender has played all of the last 15 league matches.
  • Michael Carrick will captain the side in his last appearance for the Reds.
  • Romelu Lukaku remains out.
  • To further cloudy the selection waters, Mourinho says, ‘some other players are going to play because second place is achieved and we as a team are going to play the FA Cup final’.
  • The match will clearly be very ‘end-of-seasonish’ with an obscure starting line-up as United ease into the Cup Final week.

  • As the Saints first team prepare for the Champions League final their sorry excuse for a second team cling to life in the Premier League. Barring a monumental collapse against Man City they should be fine. But here’s hoping….
  • In the biggest irony of ironies it looks like the whinging Welsh wonder has cost our hero Carvalhal his job. While Hughes himself is talking up his chances of staying on next season. Wonderful.
  • He was a little bit full of himself, explaining that they beat Swansea because they were brave and attacked rather than simply defending, which apparently is much easier, “being destructive is easier to accomplish than being on the front foot”. Sunday should be very easy for them indeed then!
  • As for team news Maya Yoshida will return from suspension and will probably replace Jan Bednarek after he suffered a head injury but Hughes hasn’t fully ruled him out just yet.
  • Mario Lemina is also touch and go as he recovers from a hamstring strain.
  • Other than those the team should stay largely unchanged from midweek.
  • Come on City, hammer them!!!

  • The Potters are down, the nation rejoices, the world is a happy place.
  • Stoke end their Premier League existence (for now) with a trip to Wales. Jeez, when you’re down life really does kick you in the nuts.
  • Paul Lambert has not seen his team win since the victory over Huddersfield in GW24 which was Lambert’s first game in charge – that’s 13 matches without a win, relegation form that Pardew, Pulis, Hughes and Carvalhal would be truly proud of.
  • On the injury front (not that you care, be honest), Lambert says that Choupo-Moting trained this week but may not be ready for Sunday and Bruno Martins Indi continues to miss out.
  • The Potters have only won six matches all season, one of which was the reverse fixture in December.
  • That’s about as exciting as it gets.

  • Shed a tear. It was but a brief love affair. It seems only yesterday that Carlos breezed into our lives and stole our hearts with his eccentric ways, his odd but lovely stories. And his cakes. Oh, the cakes… If only you got Premier League points for charm. The reality is that you don’t though, Swansea are all but down and sweet Carlos is all but out.
  • Let’s cherish his final moments and words.
  • In typical fashion Carlos did things his own way. He opened up by basically holding his own press conference with himself! He then spent no less than 6 minutes giving us all the statistics from his tenure. It almost felt like a job interview. Unfortunately for Carlos the only stats that matter now are that you need to score a few on Sunday and hope Man City can do likewise.
  • There were no fresh injuries to report but we would expect a few minor changes given that they basically have to go for this and die trying if that is how it pans out.
  • Tchau Carlos, we hardly knew thee….

  • Kyle Walker-Peters could play right back if both Trippier and Aurier fail fitness tests.
  • Danny Rose is battling Ben Davies for a start in what could be Rose’s final game for the club.
  • Poch says he is focused on winning the game and securing third place.
  • Having finally secured Champions League qualification in midweek, Spurs can relax somewhat and maybe this will mean their attackers start looking interested again.
  • Spurs’ recent record at home to Leicester isn’t great – they have drawn and lost the last two, though many FPL managers will be hoping for a repeat of the 6-1 scoreline at the end of last season when Kane scored 4.

  • On Nathaniel Chalobah’s prospects of returning to the side after a long spell on the sidelines, Javi Gracia said: ‘He has a chance’, hinting at a probable cameo role.
  • Kiko Femenía, Miguel Britos and André Carrillo are all unlikely to play this weekend having all missed training midweek. Stefano Okaka is still out.
  • Gerard Deulofeu came off the bench last weekend following a period on the injury table. We expect him to start this weekend.
  • On deploying the Troy Deeney-Andre Gray partnership again, he said he was ‘very happy with the last performance so we’ll see’. I guess we will see, because that information was useless!
  • With the news that Étienne Capoue looks set to miss out for personal reasons, Gracia’s hand may be forced into playing a 4-4-2 again.
  • Typifying Watford’s press conferences this year, Gracia said: ‘I’m not only thinking about the last game though, I need to prepare the next game thinking about United and we’ll see if [Deeney and Gray] is the best option or not.’ Sounds like you are only thinking about the last game at the moment, to us!

  • David Moyes did not turn up at all this week. To be fair, for once he had a legitimate excuse – no presser was arranged!
  • Unfortunately for Cheikhou Kouyaté, who has played the last umpteen games as if he cannot be bothered, looks like he did not pick up an injury during the Manchester United game despite receiving medical treatment in the latter stages, which means he will probably be picked to play again this weekend.
  • Adrian has been favoured over Joe Hart for West Ham’s last two games since the England Number, erm…, goalkeeper was unable to play against Manchester City due to the terms of his loan agreement. On a run of two clean sheets, we would expect Adrian to get the nod again. We don’t see Moyes as the sort that would factor in that it will (probably) be Hart’s last game for the club.
  • There has not been much movement in the starting eleven in recent weeks, and we don’t expect much here. Andy Carroll was brought on against Manchester United with 25 to go but did not really make the big impact that was needed to convince Moyes not to play Marko Arnautovic as a lone striker.

Gameweek 37 was a disaster for me,took a couple of gambles and they backfired so i’m now 14 points behind my Ml leader !
Naughton can come in for Smalling but depending on Silva news i’m thinking Zaha in for Silva and Arnie in for Lingard but who to captain ? Pretty sure he will go Salah.Or should i do the Silva move, swap Jesus out to P.e.a and stick the armband on him ? Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome.

    2. Eriksen and DD to salah and Karius (-4)
    3. DDG to either Karius or Romero
    4. Eriksen, DDG & Jesus to salah, Karius/Romero and PEA (-8)

    Hey GP,
Yeah with the -4 which puts me 18 points behind him i think im going to have to captain a player he doesnt own that has explosive potential ! Was considering Arnie but with West ham having nothing left to play for and everton being quite tight away from home.
Quite nervous about losing Jesus but i think Southampton will park the bus to protect their goal difference and our lot will be exhausted from their efforts in the last 2 games and their partying since Wednesday night !!
