FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups GW8

Welcome to the slightly new look Team News and Predicted Line-ups for GW8. We launched this new feature at the beginning of the season and we hope it has been of some use to you all. It replaced a golden oldie, namely Cookie’s Around The Grounds article and we have sat back and watched and learned some lessons from it. Hence the new look, the new intro and starting it afresh every week with the comments wiped clean. We probably should have done this from the start but the whole thing itself was such a big (and new) undertaking that we dropped the ball on a few minor details. Hopefully we have ironed these out now and you will all treat it as a new article, as you did with the original, and so please feel to crack on with the usual Friday afternoon chat and rate my teams in the discussion below.

After two weeks of watching many of the Premier League stars practice their trade with their national teams, we are glad to see them all back and healthy. Well… except for Fellaini. And Kolasinac and Mustafi and all them late arrivals, who will have us in a rage when one of them gets benched. Oh, and Alexis coming back a broken man, not because Chile was eliminated in the qualifiers, but the fact that he is still at Arsenal. Speaking of broken, who said Jesus can’t heal? Look how quickly Aguero’s broken rib healed once he saw Gabriel Jesus score a brace for Brazil on Tuesday. Let us now head on to all the relevant team news and our shots in the dark at the starting XI’s, but before we do please take a moment to acknowledge our sponsors, Daniel Sturridge, Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll.

  • Welbeck and Ozil are now available for selection and one if not both could slot back in, in particular if Wenger deems Sanchez too depressed to play.

  • Chambers remains out for now, while Cazorla remains out for a couple more months.

  • Alvaro Morata is confirmed out for the Blues with Conte saying he hopes to have the striker back for the midweek Champions League tie with Roma.
  • N’Golo Kante is also out and will have a scan next week to determine a timeline – it looks like a few weeks out for the midfield enforcer with Conte saying ‘it is a big loss’.
  • Danny Drinkwater remains out with a calf injury.
  • Michy Batshuayi is ‘in contention’ to start vs Palace, while Conte admits David Luiz could partner Bakayoko in midfield though he would prefer not to lose him from defence.

  • Phil Jagielka may return following a hamstring injury. If he is available he could challenge Ashley Williams.
  • Gueye and Schneiderlin are likely to once again anchor the midfield but ahead of them Koeman is liable to try anything in an attempt to find some goals.

Current form: DLLLWL

La Parra     Ince       Kachunga

Mooy        Hogg

Lowe     Schindler     Zanka     Smith

AWAY – Swansea Saturday 14th October 15:00

Last Updated: Friday 13th September 2017

  • Danny Williams is available for selection according to the gaffer, luckily for him he had a broken foot he was healing from and was able to avoid being called to the U.S Men’s national team.
  • Mounie is inching closer to a return or is he? There is no telling after this nugget from Wagner “So maybe not for Swansea but the week after it looks like he’ll be ready – but maybe for Swansea as well”, gee thanks!
  • Palmer, Hefele and Stankovic remain out, Quaner is expected to be back in full training next week.
  • On Mooy “Aaron has done it very good in the past and we will come together to a decision if it makes sense if he starts Saturday or not”. And that’s a direct quote!

  • Huth and James remain out.
  • Expect Iborra or King next to Ndidi with Mahrez likely to regain his starting spot from Gray.
  • Shakespeare on Iheanacho “(he) has started to look stronger and fitter in training”, which probably means he starts from the bench as always.

Current form: WLLDLD

Wijnaldum      Henderson          Can

Moreno    Lovren     Matip     Gomez

HOME – Manchester United Saturday 14th October 12:30

Last Updated: Friday 13th October 2017

  • Mane, Lallana & Clyne are Liverpool’s only absentees.
  • Despite the long flight back from Brazil Klopp reckons Coutinho & Firmino will be ok.
  • In the absence of Mane, Coutinho is likely to start on the left of the front three. This in turn is likely to see Emre Can recalled to the midfield.
  • Klopp also said that at the moment Salah is the number one penalty taker.

Current form: WWLDWD

Manchester City

Sane   Silva D.   De Bruyne   Sterling

Delph   Otamendi   Stones   Walker

HOME – Stoke City Saturday 14th September 15:00

  • Pep on Aguero “He did his first training session after what happened. He did quite well. Maybe he could be back tomorrow”
  • Kompany is still out but according to Guardiola he is “much much better”
  • With a Champions League game on Tuesday vs Napoli, the City line-up will be even more unpredictable.
  • Jesus could be rested after the long trip back and rested for Tuesday, but with Aguero just back, it is still likely he gets the start. There are similar options in midfield and along the attack. The City defence is less likely to get rotated with only left back being up in the air.

Current form: DWWWWW

  • Romelu Lukaku is fine to play after featuring off the bench and scoring for Belgium in the week.
  • Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out after picking up a knee injury while on international duty.
  • With Paul Pogba still sidelined, Anders Herrera will likely partner Nemanja Matic in midfield.
  • Jose didn’t mention Phil Jones in the presser, but local press implied the defender would be ok to face Liverpool.
  • Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also remain out.

Current form: WWDWWW

Atsu        Perez        Ritchie

Shelvey        Merino

Manquillo     Clark    Lascalles     Yedlin

AWAY – Southampton Sunday 15th October 16:00

Last Updated: Friday 13th October 2017

  • Rafa on injuries “We have two players out (Dummett and Haïdara), then just little problems. Jonjo has a finger injury… he won’t take the throw-ins.”
  • Judging by that it should mean that Atsu and Ritchie will be with the squad.
  • After Diame and Lascalles had a training ground bust up, Rafa will make them pay for a night out meal for the whole team. Apparently he has told them he expects a big tip.
  • Manquillo or Mbemba at LB and Hayden in for Shelvey if the injured finger is the middle one, if not that one, then Jonjo should start.

Current form: LWWWLD

  • Maya Yoshida was an unused substitute for Japan in the week so has a chance of a start ahead of Wesley Hoedt.
  • The manager says a positive result is important after two losses on the bounce.

Current form: WDLWLL

Stoke City

Pieters     Allen       Afellay       Diouf

Zouma     Cameron     Wimmer

AWAY – Manchester City Saturday 14th October 15:00

Last Updated: Friday 13th October 2017

  • Striker Jese is back after missing out last time for personal reasons. Hughes says he “is fine” but also said he is “more likely to feature next week”. So Berahino may continue to not score goals up top.
  • Joe Allen is the big absentee having sustained a head injury for Wales. Hughes says he will be guided by the medical staff but that Saturday will probably be too soon for him. Ibrahim Afellay will most likely slot in for him although Charlie Adam is another option. Which could be some sight watching him trying to chase KDB and Silva around.
  • Ryan Shawcross and Bruno Martins Indi are progressing well but won’t make tomorrow.

Current form: WDDLLW

Bony       Abraham

Carroll   Britton    Fer

Olsson  Mawson    Fernandez    Naughton

HOME – Huddersfield Saturday 14th September 15:00

  • Wilfried Bony is a doubt for this one with a hamstring strain. He did train on Friday but is rated as 50/50 by Clement.
  • An even bigger doubt is Renato Sanches who didn’t feature for Portugal but returned with a thigh strain sustained in training.
  • Nathan Dyer is back in contention but needs easing back in.
  • As is Ki Sung-yeung who played for South Korea over the break.

Current form: LWLDLL

Davies   Dier    Sissoko    Trippier

Vertonghen    Alderweireld    Sanchez

HOME – Bournemouth Saturday 14th September 15:00

Last Updated: Friday 103th October 2017

  • You remember Danny Rose and Erik Lamela? Nah thought not. Well they have resumed training, though they are (obviously) not yet ready for action.
  • Mousa Demeble has also recovered from his ankle injury but won’t play this weekend while Victor Wanyama remains out.
  • With Spurs facing Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, Pochettino may well rotate with Harry Winks, Kyle Walker-Pieters and Son Heung-min all waiting in the wings.
  • Spurs have never lost a league game vs Bournemouth. Ok they have only played four times with Spurs winning 3 and the other a goalless draw at Bournemouth last season. In these four matches, Spurs have conceded just the one goal and scored 12 with Harry Kane scoring 6 of those.

Current form: LDWDWW

Richarlson    Cleverley    Carrillo

Capoue    Doucoure

Holebas   Kabalese    Mariappa    Femenia

HOME – Arsenal Saturday 14th October 17:30

Last Updated: Thursday 12th October 2017

  • Andre Carillo only returns to training on Friday but Silva will likely start him after he only played one game when away and he started him last time after playing two.
  • Sebastian Prodl is still a doubt.
  • Yones Kaboul is definitely out.
  • They will be largely unchanged then with the main decision being whether Andre Gray returns to replace Troy Deeney who got a first start last time out. But really, who cares!

Current form: WDWLWD

West Brom

Brunt    Livermore     Barry     Phillips

  • Nacer Chadli is also unlikely to feature as he is seeking specialist advice on his back problem.
  • Gareth McAuley is now fully fit and Jake Livermore is ok.
  • The Baggies are unbeaten on their last seven trips to Leicester, winning five of those.

Current form: WDLDLD

West Ham

Carroll    Hernandez

Ayew    Kouyate     Noble     Antonio

Cresswell    Fonte     Reid     Zabaleta

AWAY – Burnley Saturday 14th October 15:00

Last Updated: Thursday 12th October 2017

  • Chicarito is the main concern here as he had to leave international duty for ‘personal reasons’ but Bilic is expecting him back today and will take it from there.
  • ‘Ginger’ Collins is still out with his ankle injury – his words not ours!
  • Pedro Obiang and Edmilson Fernandes are back and available but neither are expected to start.
  • It will be a largely unchanged team you would expect after winning last time out against Swansea.
