FPL Team News and Predicted Line-ups Gameweek 18

Welcome to Gameweek 18. Another quick turnaround with a lunch time kick-off to boot. The in-form Foxes tangle with the all of sudden somewhat inspired Eagles. That is followed by six more fixtures. Arsenal bury Newcastle, Brighton help Burnley climb higher in the standings, Chelsea dismantle Southampton, Stoke and West Ham play footsies, Watford deals another low blow to Huddersfield and in the marquee match-up, City show Spurs what having real stars actually means.

Sunday brings us two fixtures. Man United go to the house Pardew built when they travel to The Hawthorns and in the other fixture, Liverpool and the Fab Four pay Bournemouth a visit.

Monday sees the game-week come to a conclusion when Big Sam’s army slaps around The Welsh for an easy 3 points.

  • Ramsey is out for three weeks according to the gaffer, Mustafi is back in training but Wenger doesn’t know if he will include him stating “it’s still a little gamble” also Walcott has a little groin problem and will not feature on the bench vs West Ham.
  • When talking about Lacazette, Wenger says he was rested not dropped saying “I didn’t want to push him too much” presumably because Laca is French, therefore brittle.
  • Wenger speaking about rotation over the coming days “I rotate a little bit at the moment,” he said. “We’ve played four games in basically nine days so I will have to assess how everybody recovers.”
  • Arsenal deployed a 4-2-3-1 for the second time in the last 3 games, but if Mustafi is back they could opt to go back to a 3 back. Mertesacker also offers Arsene a slow motion option if Mustafi can’t make it.
  • Cazorla remains out.

  • Eddie Howe says he will speak to the players who have played regularly before deciding on this week’s rotation plan and says that ‘we had a late return (from Old Trafford) after a string of tough away games. I want the players to be fresh’.
  • It looks likely that Jermain Defoe will start having come off the bench at Old Trafford in the week, with Callum Wilson again dropping out, while Andrew Surman and Lewis Cook could also be recalled.
  • Howe reports no fresh injuries.
  • Adam Federici, Brad Smith and Tyrone Mings all remain out.
  • Without a win in five matches, Bournemouth go into the weekend just 2 points off the relegation zone.
  • The Cherries defeated Liverpool 4-3 at home last season, which is their only victory in eleven meetings.

  • We have a confession to make here – despite covering the Brighton games all season we are yet to actually witness a Brighton press conference! The reason for this is simply because they, unlike most other clubs, ask for a ‘subscription’ to see them. But curiosity got the better of us this week and so we went to see what a ‘subscription’ actually means…
  • All registered up then, and promised that it’s free, so far so good. Looking forward to seeing Hughton in the flesh for the first time… and then BANG! They want a fiver, every month, to see him in action. Now, we aren’t tight and if this was Pardew we’d probably pay double just for the hell of it, but come on please Brighton! He’s a bit dull to begin with but then when all he ever says EVERY SINGLE WEEK is “we have no fresh injury concerns” then, you know.
  • Anyway, guess what… Brighton have no fresh… yeah, not even going to bother typing it.
  • Having freshened up the starting 11 a fair bit in midweek we would expect them to go back to the tried and trusted for this one.
  • Hemed got a rare start, as we predicted, but Murray will probably come back after resting his ageing legs.
  • Pascal Groß was a surprise exclusion but likewise he should return with immediate effect.

  • Sean Dyche confirmed that Ben Mee and Matt Lowton will both be available for the game at Brighton this weekend.
  • Stephen Ward is a doubt and will face a late check on Friday to see if he can shake off a knock to the knee he picked up on Tuesday night. He didn’t train on Thursday. Should Ward miss out summer signing Charlie Taylor will make his first Premier League start having replaced Ward in midweek from the bench. For what it’s worth they rolled Taylor out before the media on Thursday, which makes us slightly less optimistic about Ward’s prospects of making this one!
  • Otherwise they should be unchanged, as they usually are.

  • Alvaro Morata has returned to training and despite still having pain in his back, is in contention to play at the weekend.
  • Conte reports no new injuries but David Luiz remains out with what the manager describes as ‘big inflammation on the knee’ and says he still has no timeline on the defender’s return.
  • Conte says he is wary of Southampton’s ‘young, fast players on the counter attack.’
  • Chelsea have won their last four league matches at home and won their last three vs the Saints.
  • Eden Hazard appears to like playing vs Southampton – the Belgian has scored four goals and created three assists in 10 starts vs the Saints and scored in both clashes last season.

  • It’s taken some time but following Tuesday nights last gasp win Palace are finally off the foot of the table!
  • Sakho is out and doctors will not put a timescale on how long he will be out for.
  • Joel Ward still hasn’t recovered from a groin injury sustained in training.
  • Timothy Fosu-Mensah was due to have a scan on Thursday after picking up a hamstring injury on Tuesday night. Should he be ruled out Martin Kelly is likely to start at right-back.
  • Having picked up his 5th yellow of the season on Wednesday night Luka Milivojevic will miss out through suspension with James McArthur expected to fill in for the Serb. Which may lead to an interesting (probably on pitch!) debate over who takes penalties!
  • Despite failing to find the back of the net this season Christian Benteke will be expected to once again lead the line. Hodgson did however speak positively about Bakary Sako, “he has improved in terms of understanding what we want from him as a front player.”

  • With Everton unbeaten in their last four Allardyce is unlikely to make many changes for the visit of Swansea.

  • Huth and James remain unavailable. However, there are no other injuries according to Puel.
  • Leicester are on a great run. Four straight wins and only one loss in the last eleven.
  • The Foxes are particularly good against teams below them in the table having picked up points from all ten fixtures so far this season.

  • Alberto Moreno remains out and is not expected back until early in the New Year.
  • Joel Matip has started training outside but will miss out yet again.
  • Robertson, Milner & Gomez are all carrying knocks but are expected to be available.
  • Adam Lallana is expected to be ready for at least a place in the squad.
  • A late decision will be made on the availability of Daniel Sturridge.
  • So that’s the injury news…best of luck predicting the starting XI!
  • The ‘Fab 4’ all started against West Brom so Klopp is bound to rest at least one of them with Mane & Salah most at risk.

  • Pep believes his side can play much better. FFS Pep!! The rest of the Premier League is already dead, no need to keep running them over.

  • Eric Bailly has been ruled out for at least 2-3 months as he needs to have ankle surgery.
  • Marcos Rojo is expected to be fit to return after missing the midweek win with a head injury – Rojo will challenge Phil Jones and Chris Smalling for a start, unless Mourinho chooses to play all three.
  • The Reds won at the Hawthorns last season but the venue has produced mixed results for United over the past few seasons.
  • A draw would appear unlikely from a United point of view as the Reds have not been involved in a stalemate since parking their bus at Anfield in GW8.
  • However, Albion have drawn four of their last five matches so something has to give. Interesting eh? Nah thought not. Oh well, as you were….

  • Judging by the unusual press conference attire it appears that Mauricio slept rough on the streets after the absolute shellacking handed out to them in midweek by Leicester. And who can blame him! And it’s Chelsea away next so maybe he and Clement can begin to share a vacant shop doorway some time soon.
  • As for team news they are ‘100%’. Which is about 95% more than the effort level they showed on Wednesday.
  • There will likely be some / many changes as a result but he gave no indication of what they may be. And he tends to switch the front 4 and 2 holding mids a lot anyway so who gets the nod here is literally anybody’s guess really.
  • We’ve stuck a team in, but please don’t rely on this in any way, shape or form. And even if you do, ask yourself why you are looking to Saints assests away at Chelsea before you come crying to us!

  • If Mark Hughes is one thing he’s a comedian. Apparently their performances of late haven’t been too bad. Of the 40 stats they reviewed after the Burnley game Stoke came out on top in most of them. Aside from the one that matters!
  • Apparently Saido Berahino is still in Hughes’ plans. Hmmm…he hasn’t featured since GW11 and it’s not as though Stoke have been scoring freely. Maybe it’s time for Saido to get in his car again.
  • Bruno Martins Indi will be out for another few weeks but they don’t think it will be the six to eight weeks that was first feared.
  • Kurt Zouma is out of Saturday’s game although Hughes doesn’t think he’ll be out for any serious length of time.
  • Having switched to 4-4-2 against Burnley and is likely to stick with that this weekend.

  • And now for the news we have all been waiting for…. Richarlison. Is he fit? Well, let’s just say we would tell you if only we knew. You see, at the time of writing the now infamous Watford Media Machine has gone all cloak and dagger on us again, much like our own IT department does every Friday at about 12 to 3. Funny that. Anyway, there was a press conference scheduled for 1.30pm but as of right now (2.45pm), nada.
  • It seems that we aren’t the only ones aware of this phenomenon as even Huddersfield got in on the act by cheekily asking their own manager David Wagner for an update on Richarlison, to which he answered “I think he’s a doubt”. Which they then tweeted. We like Huddersfield’s style.
  • Tom Cleverley is definitely out, that much we know for sure. Etienne Capoue will probably replace him in a like for like switch.
  • Andre Gray will be hoping replace Troy Deeney after that miss the other night.
  • Kiko Femenia is the other one people probably want to know about but again, see above…
  • We shall update this later if they wake up.
  • UPDATE! Don’t get over excited as they haven’t actually piped up themselves yet, nor have IT here on a separate note, but the good ‘ol journos at the BBC sent a carrier pigeon back to base with the following nuggets-
  • Richarlison is fit. He was subbed off with fatigue, nothing more.
  • Miguel Britos is fit.
  • Kiko Femenia will miss out again with a hamstring issue.
