Fantasy World Cup Live Match Chat Last 16

Welcome to the last 16 of the World cup – or the round of 16 as some choose to call it, or the first knockout stage. In fact, call it what you want – either way, it’s sudden death time – lose and you go home, outta here, offski and this will likely mean that your coach resigns or gets the chop or in England’s case receives a pat on the back and a “bad luck old chap”.

Saturday sees four South American countries battling it out for the first two quarter-final spots. Sounds like a proper excuse for a turf war to me. Brazil take on Chile, their South American rabbits, or chinchillas, if you prefer. The home crowd will be baying for more Neymar magic – good luck to them, personally watching Fred and the Incredible Hulk has been far more entertaining for me.

Next up sees Mito’s heroes Colombia aim to come through bite-free, alive and victorious against everyone’s new favourite enemies, Uruguay. That’s unless you’re from Uruguay or Liverpool, of course.

Sunday sees LVG’s Netherlands take on the bandits of Mexico in a clash which sees the great entertainers try to prise through a stubborn and tight defence. The late game is your chance to surprise your partner – turn off the telly and make their day with the comment, “i think i need a break from the World Cup darling, let’s go out for a drink” – little will they realise that Costa Rica vs Greece is about to start, you’ve chucked in your cheap defenders on the off chance for a clean sheet and the brownie points are banked for the week’s more exciting matches.

Monday is Europe vs Africa day. France vs Nigeria get’s us going – hopefully goals is the order of the day and a game akin to Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Argentina will do very nicely, thanks lads. The evening gives us another viewing of ze Germans as zey take on ze plucky, mucky, lucky (delete as per your personal preference) Algerians. Both European sides will be favourites to go through, but it’s been a World Cup of surprises thus far so mustn’t count our chickens quite yet.

The final day of the round sees the Argies back on display as they attempt to neutralise the Swiss – that shouldn’t be tricky. However, with the likes of di Maria and Higuain quiet so far and Aguero injured (obviously), it’s been down to little Leo to carry the Argies through the group. Easy then, mark Messi out the game and you’ll be fine – how many times have we heard that before?! Switzerland’s only chance of course is if Shaqiri turns on the style and his hat-trick vs Honduras will leave him feeling on top of his game.

The round is concluded as Belgium take on the US of A. Could be a tough one to call this as Belgium have hardly set the tournament on fire as yet, while the Yanks have surprised many with their courage and adventure. Klinsmann of course, has been here before and knows what it takes to get through this stage of the tournament and there’ll surely be cries of “Mashed potato” and “You’re the man” if awesome talisman Dempsey can lead America through to the quarters, or quarter finals, or last 8, or the round of 8…..we’ve gone full circle here.

Enjoy, select your squad’s wisely and good luck.

    @ FF247 UK / Europe based community…

Ok, so we need to talk. (Yes, it’s one of those conversations).

It’s not you, it’s m… No wait, it is you.

This time difference thing really isn’t working out for me.
I am sick and tired of sitting here with no one to talk to. I’m stuck here with the kids, whilst you lot are off out, up to god-knows-what (ok, probably sleeping). It’s like you’re not even listening to me whilst i prattle on about cowpie, two-step dancing (look it up), and unnecessarily humid weather.

I really think, just once every now and again, you could stay up late and chat to me. Either that, or explain to my wife why the first thing i need to do each day is to talk FF with you lot before you start disappearing off to bed. The former sounds easier right?

I know its only 6 hours, but it seems to be driving us apart. God knows how NZ Alex manages it!

FYI – I’ve already emailed FPL to request a change to the regular transfer deadline for next season to Saturday 04:30 GMT so to eliminate the unfair advantage you lot will have over me with your last minute tinkering whilst i’m still sleeping.

And, yes, maybe i’m a little wound up this evening because i may have decided against giving JRod the armband. I blame the heat.

Anyway, i look forward to your proposed dates for the first (of many i’m sure), “Stay up late for Chins” nights.

    Thanks all.

Welcome to my world Chins. After a few months the loneliness doesn’t get so bad. You start rifling through the trash and fashioning selected items into humanoid companions. Before long you have a whole circle of inanimate buddies to chat with, play chess against, hell…. I even went shopping with Sgt. Wibble (made from apple juice cartons) yesterday. I see you’ve already bonded with a turtle. It’s a good start my friend.

Being in the USofA does mean that you can get one up on most in Fantasy MLS.
It’s not so bad for the FPL to be honest, as the finalised team info is rarely out in time for the deadline, and no-one can manipulate the line-up while it’s in play. I thought I’d be majorly disadvantaged for it when I moved to Japan, but we all have access to the same stats, so it won’t be as bad as you think it will. Just make sure you download Match of the Day each week. 😉

“Sorry…what’s that Sgt. Wibble? Hahaha. Yeah, Queen to H5…. checkmate.”

You’d better not get that pushed through! Already you should see the evils I get sometimes staying up until 2.30, now I’m supposed to until 4.30? I’d be murdered in the morning!

What a game by Colombia last night! I was secretly supporting Colombia from the beginning mainly because of Gloria from Modern Family. Haha laugh

Anyway, how do we keep track of scores at Potty Challenge? M&B, mind telling your round scores mate? smile

Keeping the (C) on JRod and it aint moving.
Today is the most interesting day for me. I have 2 from Netherlands, 1 from Mexico, 3 from Greece and 3 from Costa Rica!!!! Eyes fixed on TV!!!!!

Whoooaaa I have EXACTLY 1,000 points in fantasy MLS.

Nice one Tekno. Solid score! You’re ahead of me anyway!

Thanks Bryan. Is it just me or is the MLS very unpredictable? NER 1-3 PHI, POR 0-1 SKC, and CHI 1-0 RSL are all results I found very surprising this round. Kinda hard to plan ahead which teams I want players from when results like this keeps happening…

        • Bryan Munich says:

Absolutely Teks. It’s bonkers! That’s why who the teams are playing rarely factors into my transfer choices. I just look for the teams playing at home and/or with a DGW. Having said that, I guess a more ‘normal’ service will be resumed as the World Cup heroes return.

        • inittowinit says:

I keep missing the kick offs, had 2 players not playing who I could have subbed out but I keep forgetting the no auto sub rule as well which is really frustrating. The lack of consistency in KO times is maddening. Gonna stick with it for now and not think about how many times I’ve had 9 players instead of 11 as a result.

    • 45.2

      Wow. Nice score Tekno.
Just checked, i’m only on 847!!

    Mutley says:

OK, my oppo (morning Flingy) has smashed out 54 points so far, but having a little fun trying to work out his team.

My best guess so far, is
Neymar 5 (was originally doubled but then he switched it)
    J Rod 14 (doubled to 28)
    Cuadrado 9

Which means he has 12 points from another player, anyone know a Colombian that scored 12?

    Mutley says:

Anyone not got Cillessen and Blind for the next game?
