Fantasy World Cup Russia Introduction 2018

Welcome to Fantasy World Cup Russia Tips 2018. “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.” You know you want to! Stop fighting it. You know full well when you see that first World Cup RMT come in you’ll have that feeling, that sense, you just have to take part too. But you can’t, you swore you’d take a fantasy break, you needed a fantasy break. It’s been a long season and it takes its toll. But now you’re thinking you’ll maybe take a peek, just to see what it’s all about… We’ve had people swear blind upon completion of the FPL season that we will see them in August and not a moment before. And who can blame them? We’ve also had many people say this before and then ended up competing with them to the bitter end in summer tournaments!

The game is finally live anyway, and you can access it here – FIFA World Cup

The official FF247 league can be accessed HERE or the code itself is KHC1BUJ8

It may seem strange to see an ‘intro’ article at this point given as we have already started previewing the groups but we just got tired of waiting for them to get their act together! Just in case you did miss it though we have already looked at Group A here and Group B here. Groups C to H will follow in due course, at the rate of one a day between now and next Thursday.

The Rules
The rules themselves are accessible via THIS LINK but here’s our quick take away / need to know overview of them…

    • SCORING
The scoring itself is pretty much as per FPL.
    • FORMAT
The format is more UCL though. For those who aren’t familiar with this it basically means a tad more planning as you can sub players in before they have played to replace those that already have. A quick example would be to pick a Russian guy, let’s call him Vladimir, for arguments sake. And maybe an English guy, let’s call him Boris. Given as Vladimir plays on Day 1 you can put him in your X1 and see how he does, whilst placing Boris on your bench. If you like what you see from Vladimir then you can leave him in the team. If he has a stinker then you can simply activate manual subs and bring Boris in to replace him for his later game.
    • MANUAL SUBS / AUTO SUBS
If you activate a manual sub then your right to auto subs (as per FPL) disappears. You have the option to do either. Manual subs is your best bet we feel as you control who comes in and you get 4 more shots at getting it right, basically.
    • CAPTAIN
The Captain Armband works in much the same way as UCL and not FPL. You may change your captain after each round (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.
    • TRANSFERS
      Before the game begins: UNLIMITED
Between the group stages: 1 per round
      Before the quarter-finals: 3 transfers
      Before the semis: 5 transfers
      Before the final: 5 transfers
    • WILDCARD
You get 1 wildcard and you can play it anytime you like prior to the start of a round.
    • CHIPS
There are chips as per FPL, sort of. Given the main sponsor we are just surprised they haven’t called them fries.

MAXIMUM CAPTAIN
You can play this once and it basically means that whoever your highest scoring player is in that particular round gets your armband.

BENCH BOOST
Pretty much just as per FPL – you get all 15 playing in that round.

    Interesting . . .

And they absolutely should have been called fries.

Shake it up a bit lads.

Bloody hard making a decent team at those prices

      DMC says:

Indeed. They make it on propuse though , to make us use the game to full extent, that is, keep us logged everyday for the transfers between matchdays. Compromises are needed.

      • secretzorro says:

We only get 5m extra for knockout stages…

        • DMC says:

Yeah – we are going to need a mix of premium players and second tier ones. First thought is to make sure the second tier ones are their team’s start. For example, best to buy a Cueva (6.0) from Peru than a Casemiro (5.5) from Brazil, to pick up on Mito’s tips.

    Fasten your seatbelts…
    Joined the league.
Made an initial draft without Muller in it.
    This rule caught my eye.
*The final round consist of both the third place play-off and the final match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.

3rd place game is a lottery, who knows who will play. smile But could be a chance to get a cheap player who wouldn’t normally start to allow some bigger guns. Come to think of it, 3rd place game should be open and more fun, that might be the place to go for the points.

      DMC says:

Very. James Rodriguez keeps getting my attention.

      • Falcao will most likely take the pens, James should be second. James should take most set pieces direct/indirect. Only tricky part is if Quintero is in the game, he is a lefty and he might be even better on them. However, Quintero will only take what James lets him take, so don’t expect Rodriguez to pass up a great opportunity. But don’t be surprised if Quintero takes a corner or two and something indirect. Quintero’s minutes are iffy, so that wouldn’t put me off James.

        • Matt says:

@Mito, what are your thoughts on Falcao then mate? Is he worth a slot up top? I currently have him in because his group is a bit of a mixed bag but not sure if there might be a better option somewhere

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I’m wondering the same as Matt is, he’s rather cheap, could be a great option, and he missed the last WC didn’t he so he might be hungry…

        • He is no longer an elite striker, but he is still a good poacher and he is on pens. Probably a 70 minute guy. There was a time that Colombia played to get him chances, that is no longer the case, but he still is very good in the air and if given space very dangerous with either foot. If his price was that of the Peruvian Guerrero I get him, but I am just not sure. I am going to look around and see what I come up in the next day or two, I wouldn’t worry if I had him, because he is not that pricey, but there are others I would want ahead of him. They are all pricier though. I rather have James over Falcao if I had to pick one and I don’t think I would want two attacking players from Colombia, so that bothers me. At the same time if I go Cueva from Peru, I probably would avoid Guerrero as I wouldn’t want two from Peru.

I want Neymar, Cavani or Suarez and will have to figure out the third. Mueller, I believe has finished top scorer and joint top scorer in the last two world cups, so I want to try and fit him in. But the budget is going to be tough. smile

        • Matt says:

Cheers Mito, I was thinking along those lines. I’ve just change him to Cavani and might give Columbia a miss tbh. My front three will probably be Cavani, Neymar and right now it’s Hazard but that could change. I’m really considering going with 4 at the back and having a rotating midfield because there are some nice bargain players in midfield like Cueva and Colindres and that’s without too much looking.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I ain’t touching Mueller, is he scoring goals still? I had him in the Euro fantasy two years ago and he did nothing, was very disappointing that!

        • Didn’t know that, will have to look closer then. Watched him a couple of times at Bayern and when he was in the game he always looked around the goal, saw him score a couple, so just assumed he was the old Mueller when he was given minutes.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

He could be the old Mueller, I don’t know, I just thought two years ago a he looked a bit rusty and now he’s two years older… Thought he was a bit of a bygone already… Wonder how many goals he scored in qualifying…

        • DMC says:

          Müller is a mid.

        • secretzorro says:

          Mueller’s last 7 appearance = 2 goals: 2017 & 2018

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Oh right, he’s a mid smile Had not even looked at him cause I never even thought of getting him in… 9.5m mid…
