FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team Gameweek 10

Welcome to the FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team Gameweek 10.

What a strange game-week. Come Saturday night with just two Sunday matches to come we were languishing badly. Our captain Sterling had persuaded Pep he was tired and was left on the bench, Jesus was also benched but did nothing in the 15mins he was given, Silva played the 90 but did nothing, de Gea for once let us down and Alonso, ah good old Alonso, the bane of our team, the man who has brought division and uprising to our meetings contributed a solitary point to our cause – even his most die-hard supporter is having trouble justifying his presence anywhere near our team. There were some positives, but they were minimal – assists for Groß and Choupo and a clean sheet for Cedric – everything helps. And then came Sunday and Harry Kane. One of our own and our beloved vice-captain, rising to the occasion, banishing his Wembley curse and causing the departure of Lovren after just 30mins – it was beautiful in every way. Two goals, an assist and maximum bonus points saw our drab week turn into a small positive, we inched past the average to score 59 (net 55) and rose 1,500 places to 265,485. Not great, but disaster was averted. Just.

However, our non-playing bench caused early (Saturday evening) calls for the wildcard to be deployed. Just as it did last week. Let’s see what this week’s inspired decision was.

Last weeks ‘result’…

This weeks transfer…
Selling : Choupo-Moting
Buying : Richarlison

Another week, another one passes with the wildcard strangely intact! We keep thinking we’ll play it and then look at the team again with the week ahead and end up doing a ‘Fonzie’! We had 1 FT to hand and handily enough £0.7m in the bank which was just enough to land our main target Richarlison. He could have come in, bang on the money, for either Choupo or Groß. We just feel that Groß is showing more all round and so he gets the pleasure of staying on our team.

Richarlison smacks a bit of chasing a player ‘in trend’ but he’s maybe now passed that flash in the pan status as he really does look like the real deal. He’s certainly passed the ‘eye test’ and his stats are starting to back that up too as Watford have scored 15 goals (6th highest in the league) and he’s had a hand in nearly half of those (7) (3 goals, 4 assists). He should very well have had more too with those two (more or less) open goals missed against Chelsea. Funny how a player can go up in people’s estimation after missing such chances but that seemed the case after that game, which probably says more about his overall performance than our judgement. Hopefully! Either that or he really is just a donkey disguised as a Brazilian wonderkid.

The team in full
And so this is how we line up ahead of GW10…

Our Captain is Harry Kane
We will be honest, this one wasn’t so much discussed as simply voted on. As such the reasons for picking him are vague! He got 3 of the 5 votes. Jesus and new signing Richarlison got the others. Funnily enough 2 of his votes came from Man United fans so maybe they are just on a bit of a downer, saw what Spurs did to Liverpool and are fearing the worst?! Or maybe he has now just reached that ‘perma-captain’ status. Either way he is our captain this week unless Poch says anything different tomorrow as he was flagged as a ‘concern’ earlier but let’s face it he’s unlikely to reveal anything different ahead of such a big game. Mind games at it’s finest and Jose won’t be fooled, he will be setting up as if Kane if perfectly fit and playing. As will we be, evidently!

The Benny Hill Addendum…
The Benny Hill reference may be a bit unfair to us, as for once this one isn’t our fault. Sort of. Yeah ok we should wait until Friday for transfers but that’s not really possible given the article deadlines we work to, unfortunately. Maybe we should change that to better reflect the actual workings of how we would ideally work the team in the real world. That’s one for another day though as we do have a live dilemma to deal with. Kane is OUT. That literally changes everything for us. From the captain down to the starting 11. This is what we have done –

We debated a hit but decided against it. If we knew Kane was out for more than 1 week then we would have taken the hit and probably brought in Lacazette or Morata. Given the squad we have we have decided to ride Kane on the bench and hope he recovers swiftly.

Suttner comes in and not with the worst fixture ever. Although his own participation is indeed uncertain! Worst case scenario then Carroll pops in for 2 points. Point is, if we didn’t have a bench to lean on then we would have moved.

The captaincy was the main point of concern. Jesus got votes but of course he may or may not play with the CL in midweek. Firmino got a vote but was ultimately beaten by… Richarlison. Anyone else just shifted uncomfortably in their seat too?!
