FPL launch 2016/17 – New Rules and Player Pricelist

imageFinally it is live! FPL is back, life as we know it will not be the same for the next 10 months! At first glance there seems little change to last season – budget and squad size is naturally the same and the four chips remain in place, including the two wildcards – one to be used in the first half of the season, the other to be used in the second half of the season. The first may not be carried over – so use it or lose it. The only change seems to be in the calculation of bonus points – a breakdown of which can be found under the Rules tab.

With less than a month to go before the start of the season, managers will be busily playing with different formations and strategies, so to help you on your way, let’s take a very brief look at some of the highlights of the price list for the players.

Players Price List – initial reaction
The most expensive player (as per usual!) is Sergio Aguero who again costs 13mln, while the success last season of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez sees their prices rocket to eliminate their bargain status! Nolito and Anthony Martial being listed as midfielders may attract decent support. Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes in at 11.5mln to make him the second most expensive player while Diego Costa costs just 9.5mln, making him cheaper than Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy. Daley Blind are Chris Brunt are now listed as defenders, while Eric Dier is now listed as a midfielder.

New player prices – some of the new players to the Premiership

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 11.5mln
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9.5mln
Michy Batshuayi 9.0mln
Nolito 9.0mln
Eric Bailly 5.5mln

And some selected old favourites:

Sergio Aguero 13.0mln
Harry Kane 11.0mln
Daniel Sturridge 10.0mln
Jamie Vardy 10.0mln
Diego Costa 9.5mln
Olivier Giroud 9.0mln
Wayne Rooney 9.0mln

Alexis Sanchez 11.0mln
Kevin de Bruyne 10.5mln
Eden Hazard 10.0mln
Dimitri Payet 9.5mln
Riyad Mahrez 9.5mln
Anthony Martial 9.5mln
Mesut Ozil 9.5mln
Firmino 8.5mln

You will all have your own views and may spot the glaring bargain that I have missed. So please share your thoughts below on both the new changes to the game (the chips) and also your thoughts on the prices and maybe you’ve even begun to draft your initial squad.

Morning all, well after an enjoyable time away from Fantasy Football, I thought it was time to get my ugly mug back around these pages! Ok, ok I heard there is money for the regulars league this year smile

How are we all? What are our thoughts on the new FPL page?

Just an admin note – if you so wish you can link your username to your FPL history so that your name clicks through to it. You do that by accessing your profile and adding in your FPL season history URL to the website box. Anyway the point was if you already normally do this you’ll have to update it with your new FPL ID number or it’ll show someone else’s.

Anyone having trouble logging in it’s saying the page is unsafe.

    Hazardo says:

What do you think of Livermore. He may play holding mid but from what I’ve seen of him he shoots a lot.

    Geoffreys says:

Mahrez staying at Leicester according to Raineri hmmm thought he would have gone glad he didnt but back to tweaking team as vardy staying they should still be lethal together

great to see Payet staying at West Ham as well ( so far ) a pairing of mahrez and payet vs say mikhitaryan and nolitoi a toughy for me, I know give new players awhile to settle but got burned bad last season waiting on dependables to get going that didnt or rarely did ie Hazard, Sanchez for long spells and Lukakus rubbishness… gut to go with newbies heart to go with last seasons gems

Hello Geoffrey, will they be found out now though? They went off the boil somewhat at the end of last season.

      • Geoffreys says:

hi Alex, thats what im thinking… my team so far is all cheap newly promoted teams at the back and mostly expensive unproven EPL palyers in mid and upfront result is an incredibly unbalanced team but one Im happy with ha ha….. plenty of time left though

      Hey geoffreys

From what I can read on the new signing Musa, not only did he have a good scoring record n Russia, but he is absolutely lightning quick so it would appear that the ‘soak up pressure and hit’ tactic may still be in evidence. Leicester need teams to leave them space in behind to be absolutely lethal but especially heading in to the CL, they need to find a new way to play I think. I would like some coverage and if Mahrez stays, I’ll no doubt have some. The guy Mendy looks a straight replacement for Kante so hopefully he won’t be missed too greatly, brilliant player though he is.

Here are my first 2 drafts… My favoured choice leans towards the ‘big guns’ (Aguero & Ibra), and eventually bringing in Gundogan for Fernandinho.

My second team is much more balanced with a weaker strike force but a much stronger midfield.

    What do you think?

      Hazardo says:

I would use a combo of the two. Cheap out on defence, get aguero and as much of the other midfield as possible but drop ibra. Just me smile

      NIN says:

For me, if you went with the non-Aguero/Ibra team you’d probably end up wildcarding early. It’s suicide to start with no big forwards in my opinion because it’s then hard to being them in once they shit on your dinner for a few weeks and start getting even more expensive. Drop Hart to a 4mln maybe and make some defensive downgrades – pile that extra cash into midfield then as I don’t think Xhaka or Kante are food picks at all. Or Fernandinho for that matter. Three DM’s right there, not what we want at all.
