Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

International break time can only mean one thing, it is ‘Bore off’ time. This time around we have brought some fresh faces in while still keeping one from the old guard.

Smash makes his second appearance on GABO, you will usually find him on Team News covering pressers where he is always fighting with Wolves & Watford and misspelling Doucouré, much to Frenchie’s delight.

Kralin makes his debut. I haven’t crossed paths often with Kralin on the boards so I asked someone to describe him for me and this is what he told me. “18th century gentleman. Puts on a full 3 piece suit and top hat before siting down to comment on the site. Probably has a butler to type his words out for him.”

Kop is basically old furniture here at GABO. He is an original on this article and anytime he is not busy fighting with anyone who has a positive outlook on life we are happy to have him.

Ok, enough of the intros, let’s get it on!

Evening all! My current situation is wc done gw3, 2ft’s and 0.6 itb! Looking to get Hazard in now somehow, I’m 0.3 short of my ideal transfers of Alli and Mkhi to Hazard and Maddison, so ive been looking at either
A, Alli and Mkhi to Hazard/ Schurrle or Seri
    B, Alli/Ederson to Hazard/Patricio
C The long way around of Firmino/Mkhi to Maddison/Vardy then gw 6 Alli to Hazard or….;-)

Hey gang, know it’s a ways off until next deadline but what should I be addressing first? Zaha? Wally? No Alonso? Would love some thoughts, many thanks. 1Ft, 0.6 itb

      Zed Leppelin says:

I would wait a week smile and wait for news on Wally/Zaha! Although I expect Wally to recover and Zaha to be out… But wait for confirmation imo!

      • inittowinit says:

Are we not still hopeful on Zaha? I know there was that Instagram stuff but that all smelt a bit funny! What was more encouraging though, as such, was that he started posting training ground pics himself on Tuesday. Maybe I’m just clinging to any faint hopes as he may force me to WC if he’s out! I’m already facing playing a 5-2-3 as it is right now….

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Same for me, I’ll probably WC if he’s out, could even WC anyway, but Zaha injured would be a decider… I don’t know, read some folks saying groin injuries usually are several weeks, but I have no idea how bad an injury he has/had… Will wait for more solid news!

        • inittowinit says:

We shall both await nervously together then. That said I do actually like my 5-2-3 this week, can’t say I’ve ever once intentionally played that before, but it does sort of lend itself nicely. Plan is Robertson to Alonso.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Why Mkhi on the bench? Surely he starts the next game? (Well, maybe not smile )

        • mkencon says:

Wan-Bissaka over Mkhi? Expecting the clean sheet from Crystal Palace or hoping for attacking returns?

        • inittowinit says:

I prefer to play the percentages and that to me feels like a potential CS pus the chance of attacking returns vs a probable 1 pointer off the bench.

    AC Kop says:

Hey guys, need a bit of your wisdom on my team!

So I’m thinking to take out Shaw and Zaha and bring in Alonso and Ings, this would be for a hit! I’m 0.1 short of doing Tomkins instead of Shaw, that would have been ideal. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, the arsenal players have really messed me up too so I’m happy to take a few hits!

      Red Robbo says:

AC – I think Ings is ineligble to play in gw6 vs Liverpool as he’s on loan from them, so that would leave a selection problem. Wait for the prezzers to see if Zaha is fit, but you should also be looking at downgrading one of your Arsenal players to get Alonso in. Does Aubameyang > Vardy work?

      • inittowinit says:

Great spot on Ings there Robbo. Hadn’t even considered that as they were talking about a £20m fee but I was away when it happened and didn’t realise it was still technically a loan until the permanent kicks in next summer. I can only assume that was due to a lateness issue?

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yes it was due to a lateness issue! As I understood it Ings was made available on the transfer deadline day and so everything happened so fast… It’s Liverpool though, he probably woudn’t have scored anyway…

        • inittowinit says:

Cheers Zed. True enough that! Defo worth noting for his potential suitors though as I was certainly unaware of it. Then again I was always almost certainly half cut on Efes when that window shut so wasn’t exactly paying the best of attention smile

        • AC Kop says:

          Cairney, Stephens and Shaw

      • AC Kop says:

I can do Auba for Vardy and Tompkins for Alonso! Will also leave me .5 ITB. Thanks mate, hoping Zaha recovers though as I’ve only got a fit Stephens coming in if there are any injuries!

      • AC Kop says:

How about getting rid of Miki for Fraser? Not sure about Mikis game time now! Would leave me with .6 ITB

    Martliss says:

Hi. Would appreciate advice on whether to wc or not. My teams not bad but I would like Alonso as everybody else would. Or take a hit with pva and downgrade miki?

    • 28.1
      Smash says:

You don’t need a wildcard to get Alonso there

      • Martliss says:

How do you see the best way? Wait a week for two transfers?
        Great article by the way.

        • inittowinit says:

Certainly don’t WC. Either you do Mikhi this week and Alonso next to save the hit but in all honesty it may well pay to do both this week as your midfield may be a bit sparse if Mikhi can’t regain his spot, which he probably won’t, plus of course the Alonso fixture is about as good as it gets.

        • Martliss says:

Thanks for the advice. I think you are right. I may not even make a transfer looking at it again as those I have actually have decent fixtures next. Maybe I just take the risk and wait for the two free transfers.

    Hi Guys,
I hope you’re all keeping well and enjoying the international break!
I’m currently Wildcarding and I have my team set to gain extra team value, but I’m looking for advice on my team for next weekend!
The only pain I have with this team is sacrificing Robertson in defence to TAA.
And who do you reckon the best 4.5 and 5.0 mids are? I’m currently on Hughes and Billing smile
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    • 30.1
      inittowinit says:

Hey Hippo, hope you are well old friend. I’d probably keep Billing as a playing enabler but I’d be mightily tempted to split the difference between Hughes and Dilva and get two mid priced guys instead. Maddison and Schurrle spring to mind but others are available. Jon Walters isn’t though, sadly :p

      • TheEastboundTravellingHippo says:

Hey Init, I’m keeping brilliantly, how are you pal?
Billing seems to be the best of the 2 pointers alright!
I have been contemplating the Maddison Silva dilemma all week and Schurrle seems to be the best partner in that price bracket, I’m just not sure how comfortable I am with 2 Fulham attackers smile
Jonny Walters or Robbie Brady could cure all of my issues now that you say it
Nice to hear from you and thanks for the advice smile

        • inittowinit says:

Very well thank you. It’s certainly not an ideal combo for this week but beyond that it looks pretty decent. They are at least proving that they will stay true to themselves and attack and score.

        • TheEastboundTravellingHippo says:

          I’m glad to hear it!
Leicester’s fixtures are phenomenal to be fair, I was strongly contemplating Vardy, but it’s just not possible to carry Salah, Hazard, Kun and premier defenders with him.
Fulham definitely look like the most promising of the newly promoted sides, attack wise at least.
You’ve given me more food for thought anyways, it’s a good thing I have another week to sleep on it haha

        • inittowinit says:

I do fancy Vardy for the forthcoming but yeah probably a stretch too far as you say. It’s probably what’s forcing a few to go Mane and foresake Salah. Not necessarily Vardy but a similar ish concept. I wouldn’t personally. Madison has looked good and of course set-pieces are an added bonus.

But yeah, plenty of time yet and always worth asking just to get fresh eyes on it for suggestions.

        • TheEastboundTravellingHippo says:

I fancy Vardy myself, but I don’t think the Salah sacrifice is worth it. Granted Mane has outscored him so far, but the underlying stats for Salah outshine him fivefold. The risk could be genius or it could be FPL suicide.
Set pieces are such a massive asset, especially considering he has Harry Mc’s fivehead to aim for.
It’s certainly always a good shout, it’s very easy to get into a narrow minded train of thought. The communal feel and abundance of FPL knowledge is definitely one greatest assets and the primary reason I return to this brilliant site smile

      Red Robbo says:

Looks good. I would say that Hughes and Billing are as good a pairing as anyone in that price bracket.

      • TheEastboundTravellingHippo says:

        Hey Robbo!
I’m thinking the same Hughes interests me in his advanced role in the 5m bracket, I’m liking the look of Brooks too, he played well for Wales Vs Ireland yesterday.
The 4.5 will hopefully never have to start anyways haha
