Trends From The Top Game-week 13

Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. While Crystal Palace and Sunderland have yet to play, there are a few take-aways worth looking at from this week’s leader board. And while there aren’t too many surprises so to speak, it is as always interesting to see how the trends change and evolve week-by-week. What are the leaders doing and what changes will they make moving forward? Will you make the same adaptations or go your own route?

Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 13?
This week, 90% of the top ten managers selected… Lukaku who made managers quite happy as he brought in 24 points. Our other top manager selected Ozil which wasn’t a horrible choice but comparatively only yielded 16 points as captain.

Are the Top 10 going to “stick” around?
While it is hard to predict to success or failure of any manager, we are slowly starting to see leaders hang around a little longer than in the past. SIX of the top 10 for this week were in the top 10 last week. It is interesting to note however that the longest ‘reign’ is only 5 weeks which is currently being held by the manager in 10th position. And, 4 of the top 10 (including our #1 leader), are debuting for the first time this week.

Can I make a huge ‘leap’ upwards?
Yes! And this week we have a perfect example! Simon Evan’s team, Barcafellova, is currently in 1st place. Simon started his 2015/2016 season in position 1,661,000. And while he has used his wildcard, bench boost and triple captain, his ability to rise to the top is still impressive!

What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?
– Two of the leaders have yet to deploy any of their chips.

– The manager in the 8th position finished 3,270,743 for the 2014/2015 season.

– All in all, most chips have been used by most leaders.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 13?
Goalkeepers:
For this past gameweek 40% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Hart and 10% had Begovic, Butland, de Gea and Hennessey.

Defenders:
This week we saw 19 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (50%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Smalling and Alderweireld came in at 40% while Dann was the next most popular pick with 30% ownership followed by Sagna, Bellerin, Dann, Koscielny and Azpilicueta with 20% and Cedric, Dawson, Coleman, Zouma, Jenkinsen, Stones, Walker, Moreno, van Dijk and Monreal each with 10%.

Midfielders:
When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 14 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Tadic, Willian, Yaya Toure and Wijnaldum . Mahrez was the most popular pick with 90% ownership followed by Ozil at 60%, Barkley at 50%, Ayew at 40%, Sanchez and Cabaye at 30% and Coutinho, Mane, Mata and De Bruyne at 20%.

Forwards:
This week, the front line consisted of 8 picks among the top managers which again seems to vary week to week. Lukaku came in with 100% (vs 10% last gameweek) while Vardy was the next popular pick as he received 50%. Kane and Pelle were selected by 20% of the top managers while Aguero, Martial, Ighalo and Gomis each receiving 10% a piece.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 13 were not many. They were Kolarov, Mahrez, Ozil, Barkley, Lukaku and Vardy as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
– The average score for Gameweek 13 among the top 10 was 76.3 points which is 25.3 points above average for the week so far.

– There was a good variety of countries represented this week. 20% of managers came from Ireland, Australia and England while the other 4 countries represented were Scotland, Canada, South Africa and Sweden.

– The average team value was £104.2 with £105.3 being the highest team value and £103.5 being the lowest value.

– 14 points separates 1st place from 10th.

Best of luck in Gameweek 14.

    Evening all!!

How was GW13 for everyone? I ended up in 65 (-4) expecting to see more red arrows if palace v Sunderland stays 0-0.

Anyway this is currently my team for GW14, what do you think?

Damn, Defoe scores for Sunderland. Billy Jones assist! That puts a downer on things!

Are Sunderland as terrible as they look or super low on confidence (acknowledging they won tonight)?

They are poor, bad material and will more likely than not, drop.

      FC Sanchez says:

Phallus obviously had more of the possession and play but Sunderland (w/ a 3-5-2 formation) did limit Phallus’s attacks many a time to shots from outside the area. Pantilimon did have several nice saves to deny the likes of Cabaye and Bolasie as well. Jones had a few attempts at goal plus the assist.
