Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 2

But first, a look at what you could have won – 26 ponts from *checks notes* Erling Haaland won the day last week with Kop taking the spoils – hardly getting a knighthood for that but fair play to him.

OddDane was next best with Bukayo Saka bringing home 20 points on Saturday.

Rosco ……. well Rosco tried with Rashford. *ruffles hair* the little Geordie scamp….

This week, we have just the two for you – and you’ll soon see why.

I have the pleasure to introduce to you the first in a semi-regular “Haaland versus …” series …

Take it away OddDane.

It´s time to pick a captain again and we´re here to “help” again!

Why the quotation marks? Well, we like to play this game of two falsies and one right. You know, just to see if someone takes the bait! (*cough* MattX *cough cough*). Remember? Last round we had the likes of Rashford, Saka and… well, the right one.

We´ve leveled the playing field a bit this time, though. This time we play flip the coin! Of course, our coin only has heads, or was it tails? Well, it has the right one I´m sure!

It´s Haaland versus Salah time y´all!

Let´s start off with some hardcore stats:

No. of Names? Erling 0 – 1 Salah (Yeah that´s right, look it up)

No. of Community shield wins? Braut 0 – 2 Salah

No. of Games played for Liverpool FC? Haaland 0 – A lot! Salah

So there´s a clear favorite and an obvious choice here, it´s Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly! (Let´s face it, you weren´t going to look it up were you…)

But sure, yes, we get it. You´re not won over just by stats, you want to be really convinced – and who could blame you, we fooled you once already!

Well, MattX, just MattX really. Still though, let´s dig in.

Mohamed Salah

Our favorite pick for captain is playing at home this saturday against Bournemouth. You know, the team who lost by nine goals, NINE WHOLE GOALS to Liverpool last season. Okay, bad example considering he didn´t score then (and we don´t talk about the other game… In fact… Let´s say they only played once last season).

Surely this time…

Anyway, it is also a team who will concede in most games as evidenced by their CS% of ca. 20% last season which saw them achieve a measly 8 CS from 38 games. This season there´s even likely to be a tad more fun time, I mean game time, for Liverpool. In other words, if Bournemouth comes out of this unscathed poor Klopp will have to start looking for attackers too!

Salah has been in good form too. He had a cracking pre-season, he got an assist in his first game and could´ve even had a goal too were it not for a relatively marginal offside call. One could even wager a bet that he will have channeled his frustations from an early substitution (at the 77´ mark) into tearing poor Bournemouth a new one in the next game. He did not look pleased, that´s for damn sure. Stats-wise he registered 0.94xG+A per 90 minutes against Chelsea (fbref.com).

But you don´t care about stats…

Right?

Erling Haaland

Now that we´ve got you reading this far, we can safely say this is probably going to be the popular pick. Why?

Well, first off not many own Salah whereas you all have this bloke.

Secondly, well he scores a lot of goals. 38 goals in 36 games, and that´s just the premier league folks.

Thirdly, … oh why bother, you´re all going to pick him anyway.

Rosco will disagree (so we left him out of this round), but his dear magpies won´t be keeping Haaland at bay.
To be fair they concede on average about a goal per game and achieved a CS% of 37%, so it could just be the one goal this time.

It could (should?) also be more though.

Final notes. If you insist on letting people ahead of you in queues then here´s some other picks that the bookies seem to favor for anytime goalscorers (assuming everybody starts, roughly in order of most likely):

Dawin Nunez, Mitrovic, Watkins, Alvarez, Jackson, Son, Jota, Diaz… The list of good (anti) fpl picks goes on, wheras we´ve long overstepped the allowed characters for this article.

Have fun!

The confessional…

This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week…. There are more caveats and get out clauses than a meeting with Daniel Levy but this is their initial gut feeling based upon who they actually own. And they promise that their picks will be allowed to leave for free if a better offer comes along…
