Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 9

Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 9 (& Predicted Line-ups)

It’s a redundant article they said

Haaland has killed it they said

They were probably right…

But we’ve all been here before, read Ronaldo or Suarez. And yes they may look like ‘perma Capos’ but there’s always that week when they have a ‘tougher’ fixture and others have ones that look less so. This is Erling’s first real stab at one of those week’s. The problem this week is that our main, and realistic, alternatives don’t really have that obvious easy fixture. Kane and Jesus face off in the NLD, which to be fair could be anything ranging from 0-0 to 4-4, but most likely nearer the former, Mitro is bang in form but Newcastle are hardly Forest, and Forest themselves face Leicester who are scoring a few but are below even them in the league.

Which leaves us with the Salah issue… We know he’ll bang again at some point, the question is when, rather than if.

Let’s go see what our writers think this week and then we can take a look at how the whole team fare in the ‘Confessional’ to get a gauge of their intentions this week.

Salah vs Brighton (H), by Gear
I am fully aware that many of you will be placing the armband on Haaland, and likely will be leaving it there for the foreseeable future. However, there are a few reasons you might want to look elsewhere. I for one am getting bored with my captain pick being the same as everyone else’s, there are no gains to be made with that strategy. If you have ground to make up, then its not going to happen by following the herd. Fortune favours the brave and as such, I will hopefully be reaping the benefits of captaining Mo Salah this week. I would urge you to consider making the same bold move.

In 10 games against the Seagulls, Mo has returned 6 goals and 5 assists. With Brighton losing Graham Potter and Roberto de Zerbi taking over at the helm, we don’t know what to expect from them, but with De Zerbi working through a translator until he picks up the lingo, it could be a great time for Salah to be facing them.

For anyone looking for a change from the Norwegian Terminator, then you can’t go far wrong with a guy that has accumulated more points than anyone else over the last 5 years.

Haaland vs Manchester United (H), by Carolyn
Captain Haaland they said

He will get lots of goals and points they said

And guess what…

He did

Funny that

I am pretty sure you don’t need his stats, but just in case you do, here is the update. He has had 27 shots and he has scored 11 goals this is a conversion rate of 40% which is huge, and this has happened in just 8 games, if he continues in the same way he is on track to score more that 50 premier league goals this season. 50!!!!!!

It’s derby day this weekend and although I will accept that Manchester United are better this season than the last one, the fact is the poor defender that will be tasked with stopping this giant of a man is Martinez who is 19cm smaller than Haarland, but let’s face it doesn’t matter who he plays or who is tasked to mark him he has the strength and the ability to score against anyone.

It has been said before, but I will say it again, he is going to end up being everyone’s permanent captain, he may be subject to Peptation in the coming gameweeks and might not get a full 90 but even if he plays 60 mins that is plenty of time for him to put the game to bed.

So, the moral of the story is captain Haaland, who else is there?

BUT….

I am going all out a little crazy this season and I am picking some unusuals Captains, I am having lots of fun but my rank is very very bad, so do as I say about Haaland and not as I do – BUT…. I am going to pick a United Player to Captain myself and it is going to be Anthony, he is a great player and a joy to watch, and he appears to love his manager and wants to play for him and United, and that’s fun enough for me!!!!

Some pretty good stats in the Eredivisie for Ajax as well

In 21-22 season he played 23 games and scored 8 goals with 4 assists

In 20-21 season he played 32 games and scored 9 goals with 8 assists

The confessional…
This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week…. There are more caveats and get out clauses than an Antoine Griezmann contract but this is their initial gut feeling based upon who they actually own. And they promise that their picks will be allowed to play for more than 29 minutes each week…
