  • Emery was questioned on why he played Sokratis and Lacazette vs Qarabag. He responded with “First we needed to have the mix of the first XI with young players. For example Sokratis, he cannot play Sunday & he could play today. Lacazette, I think he needs rhythm to play & it’s not bad for him to play today” Funnily enough, no one questioned why he started Ozil.
  • Emery might be forced to shift into a back 4 as he is very low on available CBs vs Southampton. If he wants to keep his back 3, Koscielny is an option, but he played 72 minutes in the Europa so there is some doubt if Unai is willing to start him this weekend, then again is not like he has a ton of options. If Lolo doesn’t go, the Gunners could have 3 or 4 natural fullbacks (depending on formation) playing on the backline.
  • Ramsey over Mkhitaryan for me, but what do I know. Ozil is said to have a Fortnite qualifier therefore could be unavailable.
  • Sokratis and Mustafi miss out via suspension.
  • Mavropanos could be back with the team shortly. Holding and Welbeck still have months of recovery before they see the pitch again.

  • On Wilson, the gaffer said “Callum Wilson has recovered well, so we’re hopeful he’ll be OK. You need your best players fit and available, physically he’s been good as this is the first problem he’s had. We’re going to be careful with the problem and wait and see.” Hard to gauge what kind of minutes he gets based on Howe’s response, but with the Cherries having lost five of six, if he can go from the start that be ideal.
  • Eddie had this to say on his midfield pairing “I think both Surman and Lerma played well against Liverpool. There’s a nice balance when the two of them are together. With more work, they can get even better together.” That’s interesting, last two times they started together they lost 4-0.
  • Lewis Cook and Adam Smith are obviously out and Gosling has had an operation on his knee so he will also miss out, but Howe doesn’t expect him out for too long.

  • Chris Hughton was hopeful that Jose Izquierdo would train this morning.
  • Hughton confirmed that Alireza Jahanbaksh is available for the visit of Chelsea having recovered from a hamstring injury.
  • Leon Balogun will be expected to keep his place in the absence of the suspended Shane Duffy. Hughton felt that Balogun did very well last weekend.
  • Glenn Murray has made a full recovery from his shoulder knock and will be expected to return to the starting XI.
  • Hughton could opt for a more defensive 4-5-1 formation in a bid to frustrate Chelsea and this could see Dale Stephen start in place of Pascal Gross.

  • Burnley were back to their old selves last time out with a 1-0 win over Brighton. Dyche “It was a good win and it just reminds the lads that although this league can be tough, we know how to win games.” “We’ve come almost back to the base level, so now it’s about the players going out and expressing themselves.”
  • Burnley website was bemoaning the fixtures as they wrote the following: Sean Dyche’s men have been dealt a raw deal by the fixtures’ computer, travelling to face Spurs this weekend, followed by a similar journey next weekend, to Arsenal.
  • Defour and Gudmundsson are major doubts. “Steven has a tight calf and Johann has a tight hamstring, so they are both doubtful,” confirmed Dyche.
“Steven is getting back there overall, but he’s had a few niggles along the way and we had that with Robbie (Brady), of course”.

  • Cardiff are 14th in the table, four points above the relegation zone but Colin isn’t happy, “I’m disappointed we’re not on 20 plus the points we’ve thrown away.” He then went on to say that they’re still big favourites to get relegated.
  • Colin spoke about their targets in January and confirmed that Nathaniel Clyne is on their list. Apparently he knows his mum!
  • Hardly a press conference guys by without Colin talking about the fitness of Kenneth Zohore. The lad must be bloody good! Colin isn’t sure if he’s available for selection.
  • There was no mention of either Danny Ward or Jazz Richards but both are unlikely to be available.
  • Pep and Klopp get a lot of grief about changing their team every week but Colin is as bad if not worse, trying to predict his XI every week is a nightmare. Luckily most aren’t bothered…

  • Chelsea have dropped points only three times this season, but all of them being away from home. They travel to Brighton this week on the back of two defeats in their last two away games at Tottenham and Wolves. Chelsea saw off unbeaten Manchester City side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to drop Pep Guardiola and company down to second place in the Premier League ladder so will be high in confidence.
  • The Blues easily earned the domestic double over Brighton beating them 2-0 and 4-0 last season.
  • Alvaro Morata limped off in the Europa. Sarri played down the injury “No. the first impression of the doctor is that it isn’t too bad. But we have to check tomorrow”.
  • Hazard, Jorginho, Kante and the regular back four were all fully rested Thursday night.
  • Kovacic is a doubt. Moses remains injured. No other injuries were reported

On the need for reinforcements in January, “Not necessarily. We have Christian Benteke coming back and Connor Wickham trying to recover from a two-year absence. We still have Alexander Sorloth and Jordan Ayew, and feel we have players to score us goals to win us matches.” He’s a joker is our Roy!
With James Tomkins suspended Martin Kelly is likely to partner Sakho at the heart of the defence.
In the absence of Zaha, Jordan Ayew will be expected to partner Townsend in attack. Although apparently Connor Wickham is an option.

  • Speaking of team news, Mourinho has already confirmed three starters for the game at Anfield in his mid week press conference. Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young have all been confirmed as starters.
  • On injuries Jose said “The only two players that were fit to play but didn’t travel were De Gea and Matic“. “De Gea has played every minute and needed a mental rest. Matic has played every minute and needed a physical rest. I hope that between now and tomorrow’s training session we can have some positive news. But the situation is not easy”.
  • Alexis Sanchez,Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay are all ruled out or struggling to be fit. Jose was not too helpful “We have doubts about everything because we don’t know who’s available but we are going to arrive on Sunday, and with the players we have available, we are going to have a team capable of going there and fight for the victory.” Jose expanded “All of them didn’t train yesterday again. Today there will be a little introduction to see the answer and to see if we can increase a little bit tomorrow to have them available for Sunday. I hope some will be available but for sure some will not be.”
  • Jose on buying new players “It is not just about spending money and reinforcing the squad, a football team is more than that. “It is not just about spending the money. “It’s like a house, it’s not just about buying the furniture, you have to do work, you spend money on the best possible furniture and then you’re ready to live in an amazing house.”

Hammers, if you look at the past 4 gameweeks as a form guide, they’re both producing an impressive FPL output, but Son seems way ahead to me. 35 points compared to Eriksen’s 23 (which is still great considering he only had a cameo in the last game). Looking at FantasyFix’s data is even more compelling. Son is far more direct, occupies central areas more often and is much more of a goal threat. Unsurprisingly Eriksen is more likely to assist and of course has those set-pieces too. Can’t go too wrong with either in my opinion, but I know who I’d go for. Your call.
