Fantasy Premier League £500 Regulars League 2019/20
Hello everyone and welcome back to the FF247 Regulars League(s).
The purpose of this article is so that our Regulars League has a permanent home for reference points throughout the season such as cup draws and the like. It is permanently linked on our Hot Topics just above the latest comments.
As usual we will have a Regulars Classic League and we also have H2H leagues with promotion and relegation as well as a Regulars Cup starting in January.
We do have a main FF247 league and that is open to every man/woman and their dog. There is no autolink facility available from FPL yet but if you wish to join that one, for which there will also be a prize, the code is;

The Regulars League is a bit more selective. You have to be a member of FF247 and you have to post comments in the community here on a regular enough basis to be easily recognisable, and posting is monitored by the way.
Its not hard to join, e-mail me (Elle) at the address below and leave these details for me.
1- Your site user name.
2- Your real name.
3- Your team name from last season and new team name if it has changed. New members, just your team name.
These leagues are free to join but you do need to mail me. Deadline is midnight on the 6th August for the H2H leagues as I’ll need time to promote people if we have drop-outs. The Classic Regulars League can remain open for longer. Get mailing folks :- elleffcee@gmail.com

World Cup Cricket
New thread for those of us for are playing.
Basically there are no weather issues this week, it looks clear and indeed sunny for all 5 venues. As we speak.
That’s good news. Didn’t have any of English/Australian players this week. But, still crossed 600 points. This DGW shall be interesting.
Well it’s 2am here and I’m still pondering. And we are a day and a half away from the deadline!
Where to sit the capo looks the difficult part.

Don’t know what to make of it to be honest. Not Starc obviously, got everything I asked for and more there but I mean in relation to Kohli for yourself and Mito. He’s my VC so semi-ish covered it a bit. Proof will be in the pudding I suppose. All relative to how my other extra chip on the DGW goes in relation to yours and Mito’s, and you obviously nailed yours already.
Probably all end up on the same points again regardless of 3 completely different approaches

I had Gulbadin Naib. So, planning to play on him in tomorrow’s opening game against Pakistan. He’s anyways their opener and also gets 5-10 overs every game. Would be lucky if he gets around 50 points. Can’t have S.A.H. my TC as need to play 6X batting chip then with Indian and Bangladesh batsmen.
That’s me back from 6 days in Tokyo, where i (wife} decided not to take my fantasy brain (laptop), so my U21’s and Cricket fantasy took a bit of an hammering, my chips for this round will be on Pakistan bowling, England v India batting and TC Sharma v Bangladesh

Oh dear, looks like we’ve got a bit of work to do here Kop! That Fizz five-for was a bit unexpected to say the least.
They were saying on the radio this morning that he’s patched up to the hilt and can barely run. Fair play to Mito then for such a left field pick but I’m still putting a complaint in to them. Anyone pieced together with sellotape shouldn’t be allowed in, its tantamount to doping for me. Granted I never did get a response to my last complaint about your bowler being allowed to play against people who’d never batted before but I can but try……
I had no idea he was injured, leaving transfers until the first team sheet comes out before the round starts doesn’t leave much time for minor details.
Just picked what looked like their best bowler (based on WC stats) since I knew I was using the bowling chip on the Indian 2nd game.
He’s not injured, he’s practically disabled. I’ve not seen the highlights yet but I’m imagining a wheelchair

What is everyone looking for chipwise for the semis. I’m thinking perhaps batting chip for one game and an all-rounder captain for the other and discard the bowling chip
Have you found something to suggest that is what the set up will be? I’m assuming it is, i.e pick 2 from 3, but be nice if they actually said so.
You all think the batting chip is more important?
It’s a tough one to split. I think I looked at it early doors and decided (with average assumptions made such as 3 players involved in the bat / bowl chip and all taking x wickets vs x 4’s and the TC getting about 100 points) that basically there wasn’t much in it in favour of any chip.
If you were to exclude one though I guess the law of averages says that having 3 potential performers is less risky than just 1. But also you can still C on the 1 you just don’t get the extra 1/3 of any points.

The way I’ve read it is 3 chips available for both semi;s and the final, Choosing any 2 of 3 for the semi;s and any 1 of the 3 for the final! But i could be wrong looking at the other theories!
For some reason I initially thought you could use 2 in the semis and then use the remaining 1 in the final. However, I had a lightbulb moment last night!

Definitely the right thing to do too. Regardless of whether it would have cleared up you can’t have a WC semi decided by a 20 over game. Suits us all as well because none of us played our chip on a shortened game.
100% the right thing to do. It’s just a pity they can’t do it for all games in the WC.
It’s about 3 years long already without adding in extra days! Although in theory it’s perfectly doable I suppose. In fact if they insist on holding it in a tropical rainforest then that should be a minimum condition to do so. Quite possibly would have ended up with the same last 4 but ‘quite possibly’ isn’t really an acceptable position for a WC.
They wouldn’t need to extra days. They would need to schedule a number of games to clash and this would mean all games not being on TV. So that’s not really a runner!

They may only need to use 3/4 rain days but they’d still need at least 2 games every day so as to alllw a rain day for each game.

Looks like it’s going down the wire this then. Mito are I will both be on our Bowling chip tomorrow with only Lyon v Behren the difference. I’m on Capo Starc, he’s on VC for him, I’m on VC Stokes and he owns him anyway. And there’s 50 points in it, which by rights would suggest it’ll be about level by tomorrow night.
All down to the final! Fittingly.
Conditions should suit Behrendorff more so than Lyon. That also suggests that Starc will pick up his fair share of the wickets.
Here’s hoping! Although I suppose ultimately I just want England to win really.

World Cup Cricket Update
Little to separate the top 2 (Mito and Init) as we go again for the final time tomorrow. 26.25 points to be exact. And with both averaging over 600 points a round it’s virtually nothing.
Kop had a blinder last round and may have given himself the most outside of outside chances but with still nearly 200 to make up he’d have to go big on a differential C, VC and Chip and hope all 3 work out spectacularly. They won’t. Or he won’t….

***World Cup Cricket Update***
A fittingly close finale to a fantastic tournament, almost as close (but not quite, how could it be). Almost felt like it deserved a Super Over of its own though.
A draw would have probably been a fair result given the time and effort spent to split over 6,000 points by a mere 40.
Init won it in the end (3rd person and all that) via some death bowling that actually wasn’t, as it transpired.
Kop went for it after the goading but to no avail, but fair play for trying.
Cookie took part, passively.
Constant actually won the round with a high score of 514 and so won the battle of the bottom feeders by finishing 6th overall.
Personally I’d say that was the best tournament I’ve ever witnessed. And the best fantasy game I’ve ever played in.
I may need counselling tomorrow to deal with the withdrawal issues of no daily game!
Thanks for the update, it was a great league. I probably should have paid more attention to my chip usage and I could have, but I didn’t want to change my system of waiting until team sheets were out (unless toss was delayed) before I formed my team. Which meant that I was left scrambling to pick my chip on time, to be fair that wasn’t a problem today as there were only two teams and one chip to use, so once the team was formed it was rather apparent which one to use.
My transfer panic and captaincy picks actually made it more fun for me, very surprised I did so well with that tactic, but much like fantasy mls it works if you become familiar with the most important names and have an idea of who the weaker and stronger teams are.
Let the Ashes commence.

I know we were sceptical about some aspects but that was probably because they just didn’t explain themselves properly on the ‘help’ section. They’ve still not altered the scores in there to the ones they actually used (12 for a wicket etc). Be interested in using that one for the Ashes if they cover it.

Firmino about got Brazil eliminated from the Copa America last night. Only one that missed a penalty in the shootout. Hasn’t looked great every time I have seen him, kind of like he was with LFC at the end of the season.
Still feeling the end of season injury Meato. Shouldn’t have started the CL final or been selected for Brazil.
I haven’t seen any of the Copa but I’d agree that he was far from fit in the CL final.
To be fair to Firmino I have only watched him about 80-90 minutes over four games. Could just be a coincidence, because I know he has had some goal involvement a couple of times. Although most of that came in a shockingly bad Peru side.
That said, Firmino has just scored and assisted in the win vs Argentina. He looked sharp throughout the game but I agree – he needs a rest at some point.
Kun had a header off the woodwork but he seems sad and off form. He also needs a rest and he’ll probably get a proper one given their elimination. That means Jesus (goal and assist too last night) will probably not get a proper rest which is bad because he is the guy on form for Brazil.
Firmino looked good yesterday, but that 2nd goal was all Jesus, wonder why he doesn’t produce more moments like that. Kun looked off all tournament long.
Foyth looks like he can play, Otamendi is still a clown.
I think his confidence was low last season with it being very clear that he was second choice whereas the year before that things were a bit mixed up and there was a long period of time where he was first choice (I think that ended with that injury at Palace). Since then he either was in and out of the team or he was in fact second choice and that affected his confidence. The same was going on with Brazil – there was a time when he was first pick but then Firmino got the role and he became second pick. Now (Neymar being out helped) Tite found a way to put him in and this game from last night may again be a shift for him at country and club level. If Aguero starts the season badly he can take the spot again I think.
I’ve got a weird, very first draftesque line up of Vardy/King/Jota at the moment. Anyone would think I’d used the auto-complete.

Only way I can get Kun in is via a 3/5/2, a formation that for me is a bit like an untested, slightly complex sexual position – I’ve never felt that sure of myself when trying it out.

I don’t like to be rude or ‘risqué’ or anything, but my answer is that in such situations you should try it out on your own a few times, before seeing if it works in the company of others (do I hear a Frankie Howard-style ‘OOOOO!’ ?) . I think I gave this a go last year, but with the wrong combination of players for that week. It stands to reason when you have so many ‘pseudo-midfielders’ (who are really forwards!). I’ve started reading again (books AND FF247!). Your posts are as usual, steeped in wisdom!

I’d try to sneak one of the Liverpool backline in and just compromise elsewhere – the mid maybe – to do that.
