The Boot Room – Rate My Team GW 38 – FPL Fantasy Football Premier League
Game-week 37 is still in progress, if ‘progress’ is a word that can be applied to it! At this point it’s less than a ‘damp squib’. Big names have either failed to produce, got themselves injured or in some cases failed to even appear. There are four games left to rectify the situation but either way we should still start looking ahead to GW38. Who is on your radar for the final week? Who do you feel has the best chance to shine this week? Man City and Liverpool look like they may be the only two teams who will go into GW38 with something to play for. Is it time to treble up on both of these then or do you fancy having a punt elsewhere?
Please feel free as ever, to post your thoughts, questions and feelings about whatever you want to but in particular if you would like others to take a look at your team ahead of GW38 and offer their opinions please post or link it below and we are sure you will get plenty of feedback. Some of which may actually be constructive, but we can’t promise anything!
That is actually a good debating point, what is World Class? Is it the best 2-3 players in each position is it the best 20-30 no matter the position or is it some other way of looking at it? Perhaps comparing current players to past players or some other mechanism.
World Class players for me are players that would be remarkable players on the best teams. Examples are Kompany, Mata, Hazard, Rooney, RvP. I think there’s a class over there asw well; the Top World Class players. They’d be the most important players on the top teams, such as Aguero, Bale, Silva, Özil. Ronaldo and Messi would be considered Legends.
Mito – ‘World Class’ and ‘Great’ are the most overused terms in football i think. In my opinion there are only a handful ‘Great’ players playing at the moment. Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo and Lahm spring to mind, very few others, if any at all. As for ‘world class’ players, i think it’s a bracket of players who are a long way from having Legend status in the game like the players i mentioned already, but are streets ahead of the majority of the rest of the pro footballers out there, for instance, Suarez, Aguero, Robben, etc etc, top top players but not on the same planet as Ronaldo & co. If Aguero could stay fit i think he’d be in the top bracket.
Tekno – Rooney? World class? Nah, i think it’s a mistake to base it on pure ability, which he does have but attitude and adaptability have to be considered too, among other things. Rooney smokes, doesn’t keep himself in as good a condition as he could be in and is a general twat.

Good to see you NiN, and yeah I would have to agree to some degree about the terms being overused. We sometimes confuse a particular skill with world class talent. Take Falcao for example, he is considered a great finisher but I saw too many people throwing him in with the big names particularly Colombians. At his best he is a great finisher but not a World Class talent. Ronaldo, Messi, Ibra, Ronaldonho (in his best days) Fatnoldo (in his skinny days) Iniesta is my favorite. Suarez needs one or two more years of this type of production, if he does it, I be willing to throw him in the top echelon. Aguero was a super talent at 17 and to be frank I really don’t see how his game has evolved. Suarez & Falcao were good at 17 but were way behind Kun at that age. Yet you see free kicks and other parts of their game have vastly improved. Seeing Kun now is like seeing Kun back in Argentina in his teens.

Mito – I’d have to disagree about Aguero, i think fitness is all that’s holding him back from being one of the finest talents out there. Suarez & Falcao are a few years older than him too.

They’ll be opening up a game of Fantasy Football for the World Cup, the site they’ll be using hasn’t started up yet so there’s little info on it at the minute but apparently it works more like Ultimate FPL rather than the normal one where you can make strategic substitutions.
Pottys comp is simply the top 32 teams from the last 4 GW’s of regular fantasy get to qualify for his World cup competition, I can see the knives coming out next week for this one as it’s getting tight for the final few places
