Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 4 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 4. Ahem, hi, let me just adjust this seat a bit. Not sat in it for a good while now. It’s much lower than I remember it being… Hang on, he’s replaced it with a bloody couch! Typical laid back lazy Americans. There’s fried chicken remnants down the sides, Coke bottles and empty pizza boxes all over the shop too. I hate to think what he’s been feeding you all in terms of actual content if the state of this place is anything to go by! Yep, Guy is having a well deserved break so I’m back in the hot seat for a week, back in my old job and what a pleasure it is to be here again. Now if only I could remember what it is I’m actually supposed to be doing then ...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 3 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 3. Today I was treated to a nearly full solar eclipse in my neck of the woods. It was eerie – and that’s putting it lightly. When I walked around outside, it felt like I had sunglasses on due to the lack of light. Streetlamps started turning on all around, but the streets were all empty. The temperature dropped considerably for about twenty minutes. Birds stopped flying and all went to ground in the field where I stood, watching the moon completely block out the sun. It was humbling in a way. Seeing such a cosmic event reminds you of how we don’t really control anything in this universe. We’re all just passengers on this rock spinning through space – and we’re all subject to the w...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 2. Some of you are waxing poetic after having nailed all of your picks going into GW1. Those people who did well, and who told us how well they were going to do ahead of time, are usually the most verbose on Monday mornings. Well I scored a 35 on GW1. And at the moment, I feel like being anything but verbose about anything related to FPL. But I did sign a huge extension here at this site in the off-season, so I guess I’ll do what I have to do. Now the terms of my contract weren’t monetary, but the contract does state that I’m free to disparage all things MLS in our group chats whenever I’ve had a few drinks. They humour me and let me ramble, and I feel better afterwards. Of course the optics ...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 1 Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 1. Before we begin the Fixtures article to kick off the 17/18 FPL season, I just want to thank the owners of this site for allowing me to continue to write this series once more. For a site that’s undoubtedly being seen by more Europeans than anything else, it’s a huge hono(u)r for me, an American, to be able to produce the first advice article you’ll see each week. To quote Donald Trump: “I know words. I have the best words.” Maybe American exceptionalism isn’t what it used to be, but I truly, deeply, bigly know words. So you’re in good hands, folks. Now that we have pleasantries out of the way, I have something I need to get off my chest: I honestly believe that the worst version of an FPL ...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 37 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 37. We’re finally at the point in the season where it doesn’t make sense for me to list out my top three picks for the coming rounds – with only two rounds left, and a host of DGW teams, that model that I’ve been typing out week after week probably isn’t going to cut it. So I’ve been told by the brass that I’m to write a single paragraph for each DGW team that will be featuring in GW37. I know, right? Just a single paragraph per team? From me? Challenge accepted. As such, we won’t be going over the other half of the league that won’t be featuring twice in the coming round. So I’ll not have to bemoan the effort of Everton, nor the late surge from their bitter rivals. And I also get to not write about Middlesbr...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 36 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 36. We’re very nearly there, the finish line is so very close. With just three more gameweeks to go, and a slew of of DGWs thrown in there, this end to the year will be one of the most eventful we’ve seen in some time. And with all of the doubles available, it’s sort of exciting in the sense that there’s still room for some movement in the ranks in these last days of the league. But with the gluttony of DGWs, there is also the option to choose your teams poorly – the end of the season definitely has the feel that there is a right and wrong answer to the problem of building your team, doesn’t it? You’ll notice that I haven’t included Southampton nor Arsenal in my best bets section this week. I’m not putting th...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 35 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 35. I should begin this article by saying that several of the points I make below should have a giant asterisk next to them. Based on how the dates for GW34’s matches were lined out, I’m writing this prior to the conclusion of that week. None of the games from Tuesday, April 25 – Thursday, April 27 have been played at this point, so bear in mind that certain elements of the article may change depending on results or injuries. I’m starting this piece this week with City as my top pick, but if “The Glass Man” Aguero or KDB come up lame on Thursday, you’ll just have to decide how much that changes their power rankings in your own mind. That being said, with so many more DGW teams coming up on the horizon, you ma...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 34 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 34. We’re finally coming down to the end of the season. And I have to admit, it’s been a pretty good year to this point. With only 5-6 games remaining for most teams, we still don’t know who the winner of the league will be. We don’t yet have a definitive Top 4. And the relegation battle still includes 6-7 candidates. All in all, there’s a reason to still watch every weekend, and that’s always a plus. Also, with a few exceptions, mostly every team is still playing for something – and being motivated to play until the very last game makes picking a fantasy squad just a bit easier. The only problem with getting on towards the end of the year, at least from a fixtures standpoint, is the inevitable congestion in ...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 33 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 33. Due to this being the start of a run leading into DGW’s, I’ve decided to slightly change up the format this week. Instead of listing the best three teams and the worst three teams for fixtures, I’ll make a list of who I feel is the best from the teams that don’t have a DGW, and then we’ll go over just the DGW teams separately. Now usually I start out most articles with something a bit more ranty or at least introspective. But that was just a purely informational preface to the article. So I’m sorry, I’ve already failed you. Even I got bored on that intro, but keep reading. You never know, it could get better. Or maybe it doesn’t get better. Maybe we all have to just look around and consider that this is as good...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 30 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 30. Hopefully you all enjoyed your international break – I don’t care what people say, I enjoy the breaks personally. Well, I would get to enjoy the breaks had I not signed up to do MLS again, but that’s a different rant for a different article. But in a normal world, a just world, you get to see your global superstars put on different kit and play for the glory of the homeland whilst the leagues take a hiatus. And the players who didn’t get called up sometimes get to play in club friendlies that you otherwise would never see. It’s all a good time. And then Seamus Coleman got taken out by a Welshman and nearly all goodwill I’d had towards the international games went out the window. It’s bad enough I have to ...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 29 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 29. Did you all enjoy your four games last weekend? How much fun was that to have so many blank spots in your roster? And in typical FPL fashion, nothing worked out like we thought it should. But one brave soul out there put the screws to the game in his own unique way: the ‘highest’ score over the weekend scored 115 points, took a -52 to do so…and played his bench boost. See? That’s living, folks. Say what you will about how stupid that move is, but that football fan had fun this weekend. But we can finally start to get things back to normal now, and I think that’s a welcome change. All teams are back in action, we actually have some games that you’d want to sit down and watch, and we can start to forget abo...[Read More]
FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 27 Welcome to FPL Fixtures Analysis Gameweek 27. If I may: this schedule is a complete mess, and I feel 100% inadequate in trying to dole out any meaningful advice in how to deal with it. But then it struck me, I should just write how I would normally write, tell you that it’s all probably rubbish, and then hope that you are able to do the opposite of what I’m thinking and nab yourself some points. But what if I’m a double agent? What if I’m really good at navigating byes and DGW’s from my extensive MLS coverage? Maybe I’m just trying to trick you into doing the opposite of what’s in this article in hopes of coveting all of the points for myself. But… nah. I’m a really good dude, and I want you all to succeed. I am feeling just a bit overwhelmed about h...[Read More]
