MLS GW10 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer MLS DEADLINE GW10 – Thursday 12TH MAY 00:00AM (So that’s midnight on Wednesday night for our UK lot!) We are nearly 1/3 of the way through the MLS Fantasy season, and so far we’ve been on such an unanticipated course that’s it’s looking very unlikely that things will normalize as the season goes on. We typically think of the World Cup years as the difficult MLS seasons to navigate – but this is turning out to be the season of chaos for so many fantasy players. And if anybody tells you that this is just par for the course, they’re either lying or they don’t follow MLS closely enough to really appreciate how crazy this year has been thus far. We can probably partially blame some of these new trends on the purposefully crafte...[Read More]
MLS GW9 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer MLS DEADLINE GW9 – FRIDAY 6TH MAY 00:00AM I’m going to be completely honest, I’ve had a busy week. And being that it’s been a busy week, I’ve had to delay writing this article for a couple of days. That’s a good thing. I think if I’d have stuck to my normal writing schedule, this article would have been much more dour, maybe even downright nasty. Why? Because DGW8 was just a mess on so many levels. But I’ve had time to calm down now – so maybe my memory of this last week has been downgraded to being only mildly maddening. But no matter how you slice it, the DGW’s in this league have been borderline awful this year. SKC have taken the mantle that DC had last year of being the ‘rotate for rotation’s sake’ team. And then factor in t...[Read More]
MLS GW8 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer MLS DEADLINE GW8 – THURSDAY 28TH APRIL 00:00AM- UK GMT Time (Ergo, Wednesday at Midnight!!!!) If MLS Fantasy was a dog, I would’ve kicked it this weekend. If it was a sacred ancient text, I would’ve lit a match and set it on fire. And if it was a perfect plate of food from the finest restaurant in the land, I would’ve set it on the floor and crapped on it. You get the idea. I was not a fan of MLS Fantasy this weekend – and I’m sure most of you weren’t either. I think Kaka’s injury report AFTER the round locked was the real kicker for everybody. Obviously Orlando and the league knew he wouldn’t be playing much sooner than the report, but the MLS has never been a fan of doing anything with good timing (just look at the monstrous de...[Read More]
MLS GW7 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer MLS DEADLINE GW7 – Saturday April 23rd 9pm – UK GMT Time Let’s start off with the good news: GW7 doesn’t start until Saturday this week. There will be no Friday game that will require you to lock in your transfers prior to getting as many details about potential lineups as possible. The bad news? We just went through one of the most “MLS’y” of all MLS DGWs – and we have another DGW ahead on the horizon. I catch a lot of heat for being so negative about the DGWs in a general sense. Personally, I don’t care for them all that much. Don’t get me wrong, I do all I can to maximize my points during a DGW, and I play them as aggressively as possible, but the stress of seeing all of your best laid plans be nullified by roster shuffl...[Read More]
MLS GW6 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer Round 5 was rough, wasn’t it? The thing about this MLS league is that you’re never absolutely sure how any single match is going to play out. You can look at stats all you want, but the MLS is a different beast when it comes to being predictable. Case in point? The average score for the past round was a measly 51. And we finally broke our trend of seeing a massive score each week top the leaderboard; the high score in the game ended up being a 99, the first week we haven’t seen a single player break the 100 mark. I guess the silver lining is that everybody suffered together. So unless you had a truly bad week, odds are you kept pace with the pack and are now looking forward to taking this DGW by storm. So right off the bat, it’s important to...[Read More]
MLS GW5 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer GW4 in FMLS turned out to be a bit more controversial than we thought it would be. Maybe ‘controversy’ isn’t the right term – but it was certainly more…divisive? That sounds about right. With the first DGW schedule of our MLS season now behind us, it’s clear that people were really of two minds about how to proceed with their teams. Some people greatly believed in the DGW squads’ ability to score points, and others really thought it wasn’t worth the transfers to bring extra players in. The result? Both camps were partly right, and now everybody gets to say “I told you so” on some level and feel justified with their team. But not everybody gets to write a column about it, folks. So here’s what I think happened.
Socks, Sandals and Soccer: MLS Game Week 3 – Dallas Style Have they let us come back and write another version of our FC Dallas “Fantasy MLS” blog? Yes, it certainly looks like it. Will anyone read it? Probably not. Have I lived in the USA long enough to think that it is socially acceptable to ask, and answer, my own questions? Why, yes. Yes, I believe I have. So wassup people? All well I hope. Not too down in the dumps about last week’s 5-0 beating at Houston? You what? You didn’t even know they played?! Shocking. Well, as the season rumbles on, and as your FPL season comes to an end, our plan is to lure you into the Fantasy MLS game, to fill that off-season void. And as a secondary goal, we hope this venture will help our very own FC Dallas to find a special place in your soccer lo...[Read More]
MLS GW3 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer For some reason, I tend to look at most fantasy sports players as smart people, and I bet on some level we all do. Out of all of the millions of people that watch sports, there are always those fans that aren’t just satisfied with passively watching a game. The fantasy sports player watches that same game through the lens of statistics, probabilities and an assurance that the math will pencil out in the end. And we take great care to watch all of these mathematical elements unfold in real time – and we can’t wait to tell everybody on social media about how our calculations worked out better than most others. Smart people, right? At least we all felt pretty smart up until GW2 of this week. It was the type of week that makes me envious o...[Read More]
MLS GW2 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer Well GW1 sure was a kick in the shorts, eh? How did your team manage? The overall top score in the game was 119 points – and the FF247 team managed a healthy 102. This writer? I screwed up and only managed to get 79 points in the opening stage. Somehow they still think I’m worthy of giving advice here after such a disastrous outing – so let’s commence with that! This weeks deadline is Friday 7pm EST (US), 12.00AM GMT (UK)
Socks, Sandals and Soccer: MLS Game Week 1 – Dallas Style What’s this? Another MLS article? After watching Guy’s tense yet highly successful negotiations with management, we stole his notes and held out until we secured the compensation package. Cheers Guy, we owe you one. For those not in the know, your 84th and 85th-favorite FF247 chat room pariahs Chins and Lawdogg are FC Dallas season ticket holders. With a number of you debating which FC Dallas players to field in your team, we thought we would lend a helping hand. So as not to impugn Chins’ good name (stop laughing), I’ll state at the outset this will be a Lawdogg-driven joint. Chins will pop in from time to time to offer insight and witty banter; until then, you are stuck with me. After each FCD home match we will bring you a ...[Read More]
MLS GW1 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer *NOTE* Game-week 1 starts Sunday at 1.30PM ET (USA), that’s 6.30PM in the UK. After many tense negotiations, FF247 has managed to secure Guy Sanchez (that’s me) for a second year of MLS fantasy advice columns. One of the major sticking points in the contract talks was the fact that Euro writers typically only put a single space after a sentence is completed – and the American style usually employs a double space. For American typists, it is almost impossible to teach the thumb to not double tap the spacebar after each sentence. But FF247 sent me a killer T-Shirt, so I shall be single spacing my sentences again this year for all of you wonderful readers that need a fantasy football fix as the FPL winds down. I think we all win wit...[Read More]
MLS GW34 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer *NOTE* Game-week 34 starts Sunday at 5.00PM ET (USA), that’s 9.00PM in the UK. Well here we are, the end of the road. We began this MLS journey all the way back on March 6 with a match between LA and Chicago. LA won that match 2-0 with goals by Keane and Villareal — and Omar Gonzalez earned a clean sheet and an assist. And that scoreline was probably the last predictable occurrence that the MLS season had in store for us for the entire season. Ever since that match, we’ve been treated to some bizarre schedules and results. We’ve had frustrations and more DGW’s to navigate than any manager should ever have to plan for. But there were good things too. We got to see Cyle Larin break the rookie scoring record. We got to see Kaka and...[Read More]
