Champions League Fantasy Football 2014/15

Champions League Fantasy Football 2014/15
This seasons Champions League kicks off for proper on Tuesday evening and as ever there is a fantasy game to accompany it! Many of our members played last season and enjoyed this immensely. We left it mainly on the discussion boards but this season we have decided to embrace it given how popular it was and as such we have our very own FF247 league set-up and awaiting members! If you haven’t played it previously you will be pleased to know that it is very much the same format as our beloved FPL with an element of UFPL ‘stick or twist’ thrown in for good measure. We have given below a basic guide to the game itself, a few of the rules, the link to the site itself anf the FF247 league code. If you have any more questions please post them in the comments as there are many members who have played this game alraedy and will be only too willing to help you along and of course ‘rate my teams’ will be welcome and answered as per usual…

The Basics
A squad of 15 is required as per FPL. The scoring is pretty much identical with the exception that there are no bonus points added after the game and also there is this – ‘Every five recovered balls (clearances completed and/or successful tackles made) = 1 point’. So not much difference at all. The big difference is the UFPL ‘twist’ we referred to in the intro. Basically each week is split into two ‘match days’ – Tuesday and Wednesday. The idea is that you should put all of your Tuesday players on the pitch and see how they perform. Then prior to the Wednesday deadline, which is kick off time of the first game, you can replace any Tuesday players with Wednesday ones if you feel they will do better and even pick a new captain if your Tuesday one bombed. Dead simple! The rules copied from the site itself explain it in more detail as per below –

FF247 Champions League Tips

Transfers
Transfers are unlimited up until kick off on the first day. It’s then one per week as normal until the knock out stages and then you get a wildcard and a few opportunities after that to make six transfers at each subsequent stage.

Our BIG advice on transfers and deadlines in general would be to check out the start time of the GW each week. It’s easy to assume that it is 19.45pm British time each week as 95% of the games start then but those pesky Russian’s get in the way occasionally and a lot of their kick off’s are at 17.45pm so please take our advice and check beforehand!

Howdy chopper. He’s on my shortlist for later in the season. Their fixtures are rotten for a while after this week.

      • chopper2540 says:

Yeah, but one thing Ive learned is form over fixtures. Look at Manu!!! BTW I take it you mean Robertson an not Raz? Anyway, what curry? Im a curry man

        • NIN says:

I meant both 😉 Haven’t seen Raz since earlier. I took a recipe from an Indian curry, Achari i believe, and messed with it a bit to suit my own tastes. So, it’s not really an Achari anymore but it’s damn tasty that’s for sure 😉

        • chopper2540 says:

I smashed my way through Rick Steins India and his far eastern Oddessy. Great great stuff

        • NIN says:

Yes, it sure is. Indian food is my absolute favorite. Really should learn how to make more dishes though.

          @ Chopper
Elle is looking for a partner, check him out first. I remember H2H being a f-ing headache last year, let alone I’d have to deal with you. Plus, when you do want someone to join be nice to them first. :finger: 😛

        • chopper2540 says:

:big-lol: Raz raz raz. Was it the ‘eet mijn broek’ comment???? You know I love ya really!

        • Raziel says:

If you noticed, the post where you asked me to join you there is also ELLE, and he is actually looking for a dubbelganger. Shit, I still have to figure CL fantasy out, seems like a bloody headache. I had 3 players in my team and suddenly it f-ing crashed. Hmmm. I see Courtois is the most popular choice as goalie. What if Mourinho goes crazy and starts with Cech?

        • Raziel says:

          F. that, this is the second time I try to get a base team and the f-ing site just flips. Do I even want to join the f-ing UEFA? I hate them. I hate Platini and I hate Blatters and Platini is in Blatters pantsu, so I double hate them all. :finger:

Ps. it’s probably: ”eet mijn onderbroek” (———— which probably sounds funnier translated to English than it is in Dutch: ”eat my undies” 😛

NIN, how brilliantly apt. Just got in from work and sat down to write Fixtures with my dinner #madras

        • inittowinit says:

No idea why I’m lying down though! smile

        • Raz, i Ain’t looking for a partner mate, i was just asking if anybody wanted a doubles league starting, i have a partner, Init.

        • NIN says:

init – Oh yeah 😉 Looks lovely! Enjoy, once you sit up of course laugh

        • inittowinit says:

Evening Elle, with all due respect and it’s nothing to do with you – I aint playing CL doubles! It takes me 3 days to open up one team on that site never mind 2.

        • Evening Init, thats no problem, if you ain’t, i ain’t, i was just asking if anyone wanted a doubles league, not offering to partner them, i am not going to break up the number 1 doubles team on FF247 am i ? laugh

Read on a Dutch website that Chambers is sitting out the next CL match at home with the flu. Can only hope he is fit for the next FPL game. >.<

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bellerin makes an appearance at right back, the lad was absolutely outstanding pre-season. We don’t have any cover at center back so playing Mertesacker, Koscielny, and Chambers every week in the league and CL will lead to burnout and injures with no backup at all. To be honest, I don’t even know if Bellerin is a named squad player, so he may not even be able to play!?

6 defenders, with 2 injured. Not good.
      Debuchy X – Gibbs X – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Monreal – Chambers

      Not very good at all.

    flingy says:

    Alright lads, how’s everybody doing?

So I put my worries to the site this morning but figured I’d get some fresh views since I’ve pondered it all day and still not happy.

My worry is – I need Costa. I already have Fabregas so I feel quite happy with Chelsea cover, but no other forward is in his form, and it seems silly to miss out.

My move would be to drop Sterling and Adebayor – both of whom are in great form, and both realistically scoring me FPL points. Having listened to a few opinions this morning I watched the Tottenham game throughout the day and watched Chadli closely, as a proposed move was Adebayor to Costa and Sterling to Chadli. Chadli did look quite good, but still not as impressive as Adebayor – the guy looks great. He’s creating chances, taking shots, had a few really close chances that on any other day could have gone in (1 on 1’s from lobbed balls).

With Liverpool’s fixtures, I’m finding it hard to lose Sterling. Adebayor’s performances have actually been excellent, so I’m wanting to keep him in for this weekend at West Brom. After that his run is awful so would look at losing him next week anyway. Shall I hold on until next week where I can do both moves as free transfers? Chelsea play City away this weekend, I fully expect Mourinho to shut up shop as he does against big sides and not push for goals, so Ade and Sterling this weekend, and Costa and ?? depending on this weekends performances?

    Thoughts?

Fling – I think waiting is the perfect plan mate, Ade and Sterling will do well this weekend IMO, monitor the midweek games though before making a final stance on it

      chopper2540 says:

Id go Costa and Chadli. Do it the following weekend Flingy. My reasons are-Chadli i sin form. Someone who I have looked at but cant work out how to fit him in. prefer Ade BUT at least youll have Tott cover. Youre right with the mourinho factor however. No matter how good you are you cant carrying on scoring in that many games in a row can you? I think he may blank this wkend. If I was in yr position I’d wait and do it next week. Plus Wbrom are pathetic

      NIN says:

flingy – I would consider Adebayor to be a good (c) choice this week so considering that, i would keep him. Is there a way to upgrade Welbeck to Costa instead? City (a) and Chelsea (a) are the only games in the next 10 or so that i wouldn’t be confident of Adebayor getting decent-great points.

      Calvin Clyne says:

No word of a joke Flingy, I’d look at getting Costa in for Aguero instead. Not only does it let you keep Sterling, but gives you cash in the bank for elsewhere in your team too. I realise I am almost certainly alone in this though smile
