Great article from a twitter friend analysing Form vs Fixtures in FPL. Worth a read. Hopefully might feature Peter on some guest articles next season if we can.

Enjoyed that but I was hoping for a grand reveal at the end. I was disappointed :sad-face:

      Great analysis though.

To be honest I wasn’t expecting anything different. There’s no real logical answer to this debate. This is as close as I’ve seen to proving that. The one big variable is you can’t predict the future! I didn’t pick Perisic because of fixtures (Spain) but form said I should have. His form. Spain’s said I shouldn’t. And so the two things cross over anyway – player form vs opponents (fixture) form. He mentioned ‘gut feeling’ a lot and it’s a mix of that and pure luck most of the time when it comes to individual cases. Getting the overal package correct in the main is just as important.

        • DMC says:

I hear you too here init; I ditched perisic on my WC for that reason: spains fixture form. That and the fact modric was out. Argh.
So, on that basis, Ronaldo will have a hattrick tomorrow, he’s in poor form, playing for a team with poor fixtures and against one with good fixtures form. Is that how this works? smile

I’ve no idea now with him in all honesty! I just know he’s likely to get a hatty at any given moment if the mood / luck takes him. Hopefully it will tomorrow eh?!

        • DMC says:

Hopefully!! Oddly as it turns out a 0-0 against hungary gets us through!

        • inittowinit says:

Oh don’t say that! Although your defence has done me ok so far I guess. Well, once anyway. I have 2 of them. Will have just One tomorrow as I don’t need the keeper.

      • DMC says:

I hear you GP. Can’t read numbers and letters in the same sentence so I couldn’t really follow the graphs. The annotations are very clear though so the message is understood: you can’t rely neither on form nor on fixtures! smile

Why the hell did Ramos take the peno?! laugh Will I now get a points deduction for him now like FPL?

I had Ramos, just great. Why did he take that penalty?

    DMC says:

Wow has anyone noticed this? Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England, only one of them will get through to the final! This will be a major chance for second tier teams to make history!

      NIN says:

Yikes, i hadn’t seen the setup until now. Getting that side of the draw right will be huge for fantasy picks. Hmmmm

      Silvers says:

DMC Wales could have a good run here.

      • DMC says:

Silvers, they’ll play either Northern Ireland or most likely Turkey so, given Bale’s form, I can see them in the quarter finals. Probably not much after that but who knows. At this point, looking at player’s potential and team general strengths and form I see Croatia, of course, and Belgium as the contenders from that left side of the graph. If Portugal can get a convincing win tonight, them too then. If not, they’ll make a strong case anyway if they get through but it will have to be game-by-game, with Belgium most likely on the last 16. Still, we need to see the group stage past us to re assess.

        • Silvers says:

Yes I agree DMC , also just looking at that chart I’ve picked my team for the nk round , obviously I will have to put names in because of prices but it has made it easier.

Ronaldo(C) to play tomorrow. Hope he comes good, he’s overdue. Have Patricio, Sanches, Long and Siggurdson to come

      NIN says:

Yeah, about six tournaments overdue :hippo:

      • DMC says:

We’ve been through this NIN mate, and the facts don’t support that conclusion.
The last euro cup (2012) no one scored more than him (3) and Portugal hit the semis and he was named in the tournament best XI. We lost to Spain on penalties.
2008 was a bummer, that’s true. He only scored 1 – in the last and crucial group stage game against Czech Rep. though – and then Germany kicked us out (3-2). But the general performance of the team was very bad as a 2-0 group stage loss to Switzerland shows. He actually did his part here.
2004 he had 18 years old and still managed to score on his debut and was one of the stars of the tournament.
It’s the WC that probably gives you the impression that he sucks in final tournaments, but let’s look closely:
Brazil we all know how that went and 2010 we were eliminated by Spain right after the group stages (1-0). So, yeah, in those two situations he let us down (the whole team did, actually).
But 2006 is a very different story. We reached the semis and he played well throughout the tournament scoring 1 in the groups and the winning penalty against England (after leading to Rooney’s sending off) in the quarters. We went out on a Zinedine Zidane controversial penalty on the semis. Sad really, but it wasn’t that Ronaldo was due anything.
This shows that he went very well in 2 Euros (2004 and 2012) and 1 WC (2006). He was our best player in 2008 and then there’s the 2 WC that everyone failed (Brazil) and that he particularly failed (2010).
So, there you have it, Ronaldo failing in final tournaments is an urban myth!!
