Euro 2016 Fantasy Football Live Match Chat – The Knockout Phase

Euro 2016 Fantasy FootballJust as the UK votes on a possible Brexit, the group stages at Euro 2016 have been completed with some unfortunates already on their way home, while all the Home Nations secured to Remain for a while longer as England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all qualified for the round of 16. You will notice a few changes to the fantasy game, so please allow us to run you through them so you are fully up-to-speed.
Price changes – some players price has increased, but only by a minimal amount it would appear. For example Dimitri Payet’s price has risen from 8.0mln to 8.1mln!! So, nothing to get too worried about.
As a result, your budget has increased by 5mln to 105mln, which not only reflects the price changes but also the fact that most of the smaller teams and cheaper players are no longer available due to them being knocked out, hence there are less budget options available.

Transfers – for this round you have an unlimited amount of transfers. For the quarter-finals you will have 4 free transfers, for the semi-finals you will have 6 free transfers and for the final you will have 6 free transfers.

Team personnel – you can now select four players from a single team for the round of 16, followed by five players for the quarter-finals, six for the semi-finals and eight for the final.

How does this rabble of reprobates look for the semis?

Morning all figure its going to be a tough game for Wales without Ramsey he has been one of the players of the tournament.

    DMC says:

Cookie!! That’s not fair!! You didn’t enter a daily’s 7 and now I can not win this anymore!! Well, in fairness I could’ve only tied if I won all the games which would be a long shot…
Anyway, this was my effort for last night.

Now don’t go tranfers in all the Portugeezers; you can only have 6 of a single team for the semis. 8 for the final.

    DMC says:

Looking at the referee nominations for the semis, it seems England could have someone in the final after all: Mark Clattenburg.

Morning fellas, how’s everyone doing? As you can see I have 7 people not playing thanks to that stupid yellow card rule but as I see it I have 3 options.

    1. Take a hit and sell all 7
    2. Use 6 FTs and leave Ramsey on the bench
    3. Use 6 FTs but leave either Meunier or Gia on the bench to maximise attacking players.

    Which is best?

      DMC says:

I see your problem Matt. I don’t think hits are recommended at this late stage. Not if you have at least XI. You’d need something special for it to compensate and we know how tight games have been. That being said, clean sheets were non existing in the quarters so maybe option 3 is the best one (leaving meunier, since he’s the cheapest).
You’ll have another 6 for the final meaning that you’d probably be able to bring ramsey on a free if they reach the final. Just try to spread the love between the teams so that you have at least 5 going through.

      • MattX says:

Hey DMC, option 3 is the one I was leaning towards as I took a hit last round so don’t want to take consecutive ones and leaving Meunier is the exact player I was thinking for his price.

Who would you lean towards bringing in?

        Right now I’m thinking:
        Fabianski –> Rui Patricio
        Giaccherini –> Williams
        Hazard –> Allen

That leaves me with Ramsey, Milik and Witsel to be replaced and 27.7 Mil to replace them with, I’m thinking one more German but then I’m stumped as to who else to bring in.

        • DMC says:

Well, you know about my bias for Portugal so maybe I’m not the best person to recommend transfers right now ?
I’ll say this: if any of these games offers clean sheet potential then yeah maybe it’s the Portugal-Wales one, given our inability to score much and their ability to play tight/concede few (England scored twice though).
I expect Portugal to control possession which also makes it difficult for wales to score, so on that basis I’m going heavy on Portugal’s defense, but I do have Chester and will probably leave him there so I understand your Williams move. Of course with bale in there they can score at any given time. But so can Griez, Giroud, Payet and Ozil, Draxler, Kroos which means that their semifinal offers less CS potential.
Not sure why you’d bring Allen in, but maybe I’m missing something.
I think I also covered your other question in terms of which attacking players to bring in. Ronaldo is a must right now, for me, but you already have Nani so maybe that would be overkill.
So Griez/Giroud for Milik’s spot and then Draxler or Goetze if we get to know which one (or both) gets the nod.
I think there’s enough money for those moves.
Pogba is someone I wouldn’t transfer out or in. He looks off the pace in terms of goal scoring opportunities and I’m not sure about he’s role if Kanté is back. Matuidi I see as a cheeky punt; he seems to be better in terms of form and has now produced an assist. It all depends on your goals here, if chasing something than yeah a small punt like that could work; if keeping, maybe stick the big guns in there and relax. Portugal offer several cheap mids that pose an attacking threat like Mário, Renato and André Gomes (fully fit now and seriously in contention).

        • DMC says:

Matt, that question mark was supposed to be a 🙂

        • DMC says:

          grrrr ::):

        • MattX says:

Cheers for your thoughts DMC. It really helps. smile As for Allen be may go he’s performances have been brilliant but I don’t think they really convert to fantasy points so he could move to Matuidi. Pogba definitely won’t be coming in he’s been poor all tournament I think and only did something against the lowest ranked team in the tournament.

Right now the moves are :
          Fabianski –> Rui Patricio
          Giaccherini –> Williams
          Hazard –> Kroos
          Witsel –> Joao Mario
          Ramsey –> Matuidi
          Milik –> Greizmann

Only thing I dont like about that is I know how 5 Frenchies and that will screw me over if they get knocked out. I think the German/French match will go penalties to be honest but then I don’t know who will win.

Maybe Matuidi out but then I’m unsure who go bring in.

        • MattX says:

That’s supposed to read “I now have” haha smile

        • DMC says:

All decent moves Matt. If I’m correct you have at least 5 going through to the final, bar any injuries or red cards, of course, so all’s well even if France goes out.
That will be a great game to watch from a neutral point of view – as was with Italy.
It’s different though: ze Germans seem to be a much better team as a whole but the frenchies are playing at home and coming out of a 5 goals win. Anything can happen really, from a 2-0 German win to a narrow France win. France can’t defend like Italy though, so, unless they score first and then concede late, I don’t see this one going into extra time. I may be wrong of course.

        • MattX says:

That’s true I miscounted. I think the Germans are the better team but with the French having a home advantage it seems to be giving them more of a boost lately so they could spring a surprise but I agree with you it will be an entertaining match for neutrals which is basically all of us haha smile
