Euro 2016 Fantasy Football Live Match Chat – The Knockout Phase
Just as the UK votes on a possible Brexit, the group stages at Euro 2016 have been completed with some unfortunates already on their way home, while all the Home Nations secured to Remain for a while longer as England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all qualified for the round of 16. You will notice a few changes to the fantasy game, so please allow us to run you through them so you are fully up-to-speed.
Price changes – some players price has increased, but only by a minimal amount it would appear. For example Dimitri Payet’s price has risen from 8.0mln to 8.1mln!! So, nothing to get too worried about.
As a result, your budget has increased by 5mln to 105mln, which not only reflects the price changes but also the fact that most of the smaller teams and cheaper players are no longer available due to them being knocked out, hence there are less budget options available.
Transfers – for this round you have an unlimited amount of transfers. For the quarter-finals you will have 4 free transfers, for the semi-finals you will have 6 free transfers and for the final you will have 6 free transfers.
Team personnel – you can now select four players from a single team for the round of 16, followed by five players for the quarter-finals, six for the semi-finals and eight for the final.

Always knew France would make it to the final. I pick them to win it. It will be tough for Portugal. Germany wasn’t good enough with, I didn’t get that feeling from them like the last world cup
Yeah but that was a harsh, the penalty. They always given them these ones, which is annoying. They weren’t really better; they started better but them Germany took control with ease untill the penalty really messed their spirits. I agree germany’s second half was poor and France defended very well In that period. The second goal came from serious sloppy play from their defense and credit to France for taken it but this was not a dominant display from France. They didnt really justify a 2 goal lead. Payet looks tired. They look strong though so this will be a close affair on sunday. With Portugal coming out as european Champions of course!!!
That’s a very accurate assessment DMC – the dreadful penalty decision completely changed the game in my opinion. Platini still having influence it seems.
Have to disagree there lads. For me, the French defender much better than Germany and took a couple of opportunities whereas Germany whiffed all theirs. Defo a peno for me as well. Cant be flailing around like that and expect to get away with it.
Technically it was a pen but bloody hell it was harsh! Germany were excellent in the first half, just lacked a goal scorer. Muller was awful. That cross at the end summed his tournament up. A draw was probably a fairer result in my opinion.
Yeah very surprised that Muller didn’t show up in this tourney at all. Was it yourself who posted a while back saying he’d never scored at a Euro’s? seems like such an odd stat as he’s a boss in WC outings, or at least has been thus far.
I don’t think I said so but I was aware of it. Odd stat as you say. Kind of knew to stay away from him once I’d seen their first game and the line-up but I think I preserved through to the NI game. After that you just knew it wasn’t happening for him.
The thing here NIN is that others do get away with it. Did you see what collins did the other day to Ronaldo ? Was it given ? No. This a semi final and he did hesitate but In the end it was given. That doens’t happen with all the teams so yeah France is very dangerous outside of the field of play. Mark my words, If this kind of bias from the refs does not occur on sunday We win! Hell, we win anyway!
I’m not aware of that incident mate, i was in work so only seen bits of the game really. I gave Portugal no chance as you know but now that they are there, it would be nice to see them win. Well, it’d be nice to see one of the two current greats actually achieve at International level.
Yeah the group stage kinda laid it out. Still thought he’d get his arse in gear at some stage but clearly not.
Mr Kop highlighted that stat for us here. This is only his second euro though but yeah 0 goals compared to 10 In two world cups is odd. Especially given it’s the same coach. #mullersucksateuros
Well, lucky or deserved, the Frogs are in the final and given all that has gone on in the country over the last 18 months or so I wouldnt begrudge them that.
Let’s hope Sunday goes off without incident and the final is a decent game.
Absolutely, well said
The penalty was harsh, but I’ve realized that referees are nit giving fouls on Ronaldo, don’t know why. Back to the game, I agree with you DMC that France didn’t dominate but they took their chances, defended well and deserved to win. They are favorites to win on Sunday. I expect it to be close
Germany goea hoeme!
Were you squeezing out a fart when you typed that?
Ehehe it’s the goetze effect!
Haha, toueche 😉
Victor Valdes signs for Middlesbrough.
Morning all.
So i figure that everyone is going to have roughly the same teams for the final & basically it’s going to come down to who you pick for your 3rd striker out of Nani & Giroud & who you capt out of Ronaldo & Griezmann.
Does that about sum it up
Yeah maybe that and also who you captain hammers.
Some though may bank on a 0-0 and go 5-4-1 and captain a defender!
Pretty much Hammers – pretty stupid game really, too many subs, little need for the wildcard, minimal price changes and an increased budget halfway through = all leading to the most template fantasy team you will ever see!!
Morning, by the way
Morning Cookie
I have my WC still and I doubt I’ll use it (unless I get a couple of late injuries).
Giroud or Nani for you boys then?
I’m leaning towards Nani atm as Portugals midfield options are piss poor.
Exactly my point GP, if you didn’t play it in the group stages then there was hardly a need for it, unless you made complete changes.
Hammers, I’ll likely be going 8 French and 3 Portugeezers, so reluctantly, it’ll be Giroud for me.
Trying to make some ground going for the leader team hey cookie? ?
The lesser team I meant! FFS!
haha I get you DMC!!
I’m struggling to see where the value is in the Portugeezers for the final mate – I genuinely think France will win, therefore score – and having kept the Germans out, one I think would be excused for thinking they will keep out Portugal also.
Call me mad but I think there’s no way we’re conceding in this game mate. France have great players but they’re not great going forward (Romania, Albania and Swiss showed us that and we will have a similar game plan I presume).
Regardless of clean sheets, I see value in Guerreiro, Mário, Renato, Ronaldo and Nani, from Portugal, and Pogba, Payet, Grizoud, from France.
Those seem to be the obvious picks anyway if the rest of the teams remain the same
It’s going to be a huge game but we need to nick this one. It’s due!!! France looks like strong favourites, I know, but that’s always been the case against us. They have won against us in 3 semi-finals now (84, 2000 and WC2006), that’s true, but two were in extra time (84 and 2000) and two they won by harsh or inexistent penalties (2000 and 2006) respectively.
So, have they always won? Yes. Were they dominant all round? No. They were freaking lucky/we were freaking robbed! So this must be revenge time, granted it will be difficult with them playing at home, etc.
DMC, I’m pretty sure they played 4-3-3 in those games but have since switched to 4-2-3-1 which is obviously getting the best out of Griezmann. I no longer have any interest in the fantasy game so while there might be value in some of your defenders I’ll be very surprised should you keep the French scoreless for 90 or 120 minutes.
I know Kop, but that actually may favour our system. The more forward minded people they have, the better for us, oddly as it may seem. Griezmann is in hot form in deed, but we’re not giving away gifts as Kimmich/Neur did in yesterday’s second goal. So, from set pieces I can see the danger; from open play, not so much.
For this assessment to really work though we need Pepe back!
DMC,
I said to my French colleagues before the start of the tournament that they would win and I won’t deviate from that, but having been on the same side as you for many of the Portugal matches I can see how tight they can keep things. And to be fair, it’s good to see Nani finally producing some form.
However, I think the French will have too much in the final – I am not predicting a one-sided final at all, maybe a 1-0 or 2-0 to the Frogs and will be setting my team up accordingly.
For your sake I hope the Portugeezers win!
Fair enough!
It’s another example of where MLS get things right. They initially kept the fantasy game running through the play offs and into the final but quickly realised how absurd and pointless it made the game so they just cut off at the end of the season now. Little bit different with this but really they should tweak the rules accordingly and reduced the transfers for the semis and final and at least it would have made people think and plan more carefully.
Do you love MLS as much as you love the Germans?
Some season for Clattenburg lads.
FA Cup final, Champions League final and now the Euros final.
Deserved I think.
+1 GP and I hope he keeps the good referring in the final.
And if he must favour someone in a given penalty area then someone (looking at you Mourinho) should remind him that the oldest and still active treaty in world geopolitics is the Treaty of Windsor (1386) between Portugal and England and its scope is the mutual support between the countries.
So, Ronaldo will support Clattenburg by falling in the penalty area, and the later will support Portugal and give it!!! :smiling:
Morning all had to set team early for the final away this wknd at Chester Races tonight looking fwd to FPL starting again Think France should win but you never know 😉
Morning Silvers, off again I see yeah I agree with you I see a French win probably 2-0, can’t wait for FPL to start I’m getting impatient now haha
