Fantasy Champions League The Last 16 2018/19
We are posting this just in case it takes you by surprise by its sudden return on Tuesday evening. It’s been a long break and you probably can’t even remember who is in your team, never mind whether or not you were doing well in it! Either way it’s time to make amends and get back on the the wagon. We felt it right to also give a reminder of the nuances too. The first being that there are essentially 4 ‘match days’ within this single round; Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th. You can switch your subs in and your captain around ahead of each one, until you land on what you feel is an acceptable sticking point.
You can access the game here – Fantasy Champions League
The main points are these;
THE 1ST DEADLINE
Tuesday (12th Feb) at 8pm UK time.
Set your team and make sure you have the players who play on Tuesday in your starting 11. Make sure your (first!) captain plays on Tuesday too, you can switch him and your Wednesday players in later if needs be. And likewise next week too.
THE 2ND DEADLINE
Wednesday (13th Feb) at 8pm UK time.
Yes, there are multiple deasdlines, four in this particular in fact. The 2nd is prior to the next ‘match day’, as they like to call it. The purpose is that you get to switch your aforementioned players in for anyone who hasn’t performed on Tuesday. And most importantly you can select a new captain if your Tuesday guy did a ‘Sane’.
The 3RD & 4th DEADLINES!
The 3rd is next Tuesday the 4th is on Wednesday. It’s the same principal throughout; make sure your early players are in your 11 and that these later guys are ready to be called into action.
Transfers
Prior to the ‘Round of 16’ (this one!) everyone gets a Wildcard; so yes, you can select a new squad now and start afresh. You also get an increased budget of £105m and in this round you can now select 4 players from each team, rather than the standard 3.
You get 3 free transfers before the 2nd legs of this round begin. That’s in a couple of weeks, not before Wednesday, or indeed next Tuesday, before anyone asks / gets confused!
Fixtures
The 4 ‘match days’ ahead look like this;
THE FF247 LEAGUE
This is looking as competitive as ever and it’s good to see a a few familiar names in the current top 10. We’ve tried to keep it as much to ourselves as possible so that it is mainly ‘Regulars’ from here but some tool did tweet it out from the site handle so there a few unknown participants!
I just realised Sancho was English.
Promising player for your national team there!
Fantastic prospect Frenchie.
One of a number who have realised that a move abroad may move them on a lot faster than trying to get into their English clubs after their academy time.
He has definitively flourished in Dortmund.
I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more about him in near future.
Amazing talent!
Ajax
Real Madrid
He actually went with the exact XI I wanted. Well, except for Varane not starting, but he would have if he wasn’t sick. But the XI minus Varane was exactly the ones I wanted. Love the team, hopefully they play well now.
Looking forward to seeing Vini J play, haven’t caught him yet.
I made him captain also, but he is more of an assist guy so I don’t have great hope he will stay as my captain. Have Messi and City guys in wait, so why not gamble on the young lad. Almost went Ramos hoping for a clean sheet and a pen goal, but without Varane I am less confident.
Was toying with him but I’ve gone for Son instead with him playing up top.
Makes sense, in particular with Spurs at home.
Spurs
Dortmund
Evening all
Well I forgot to sort my team yesterday so that’s me out of this Eufa Malarkey!
Any news on Auba? Has he got rid of the sniffles yet?
He’s in the squad for tomorrow Hatters.
“Aubameyang started training on Monday, yesterday and today and I think he is okay for the match”.
Terrible. Ajax was fucked by referee and the VAR
I am so pissed.
Are you an Ajax fan then?
(And yes , poor VAR decision there)
I’m Dutch so automatically I support the Dutch team versus a three time winner with 100 times the Ajax budget. And Ajax Was better the first half. It’s sad a ref and VAR could kill that. We all know how this Will end. Real Madrid goes to the next round.
What the heck are you two talking about? The VAR didn’t make a mistake, that was correctly ruled.
I get it. I couldn’t care less for Benfica’s or Porto’s results but I don’t like it when they are robbed in Europe.
Here it is
MiTo a Real fan by any chance?
Oh cmon that’s rubbish. The Ajax guy that’s offside isn’t really bothering Navas. At least from the replay I saw. I’m on a dodgy internet connection on a train though so I may be wrong.
On the fantasy front , I have Reguillon so good call from the VAR and ref!
Looked harsh to me. Courtois made the mistake then tries to recover. Are the Ajax players just supposed to jump out of his way?
MiTo has two Real defenders so even more reason to support the view. I’m saying it’s interpretation. I’m 99 percent certain if it was the other way around, Real would get the goal. Commercial wise more interesting.
VAR is supposed to be for “clear and obvious” errors. It took 2 minutes to figure that one out so wasn’t really all that obvious at all
Doesn’t matter if Courtois made 10 mistakes you can’t obstruct the keeper in an offside position. Very simple, read the rules.
I read you’re a Galacitco, MiTo. So you support the money team. :p
You can’t obstructe the keeper at all. But was he? Or was he never getting that ball?
My point is he didn’t move to obstruct him. Courtois fumbled the ball over him then ran in to his back. Keepers are way too overprotected. Like Raz said, I doubt it would have gone the other way
@Saf, that terminology appears nowhere. “clear and obvious” errors.
The actual phrase is “was the decision clearly wrong?”
And it was
The more I see of VAR the less I like it. It takes ages and still doesn’t always seem right. They should use it more like cricket and have ‘umpires decision’ on fine calls.
Are you seriously saying he did not obstruct him? You need glasses look at the picture again.
I know Courtois made a mistake, but that doesn’t change the rule. If a defender mistakenly passed the ball to the other teams forward and he shot it and one of his mates was standing in an offside position and even though they didn’t try for the ball he interfered with the line of site or bumped with the keeper and if he stood still it would still be no goal.
And yes I am a Madrid fan and if this was Barca vs Ajax it would still be offsides.
It’s interpretation. And if it’s not 100 percent clear and if it could go either way. Teams with more commercial value will always get the advantage. This thing here wasn’t clear. Nobody would have even noticed and I didn’t even see anyone of Real complaining or asking for the var. If it was the other way around Real would have gotten the goal for sure.
It is clearly a very controversial decision.
VAR=Video Assistant for Real !!
Evening all…
Hope you are enjoying the games 😉 !
Yeah. I fear this var thing could actually work against the smaller teams. Since again it’s interpretation.
I won’t go there Raz. Technology is good and needed. We will always have bad referring but some ‘mistakes’ are much harder to get away with.
I saw the replay at half time, with the explanation, and I think the decision is completely right.
Player in an offside position interfered with goalkeeper.
Before Raziel accuses me of being a Real fan, I’m not (not at all actually).
And I’m also not saying VAR is perfect.
I actually hate VAR, having seen it in MLS all last season, I really grew to dislike it. I am ok with human error, goal line technology I am fine with because it doesn’t take away from the game.
I saw it quite a bit in Ligue 1 in France this season, and there has been many, many heated debates and almost scandals with how it was used. There are many things wrong with how it’s performed at the moment. Not the less that it can take ages. Also the guys in the video room don’t take any responsibility, I don’t like that.
@Frenchie – you have just described the VAR’s biggest flow in a single sentence.
“the guys in the video room don’t take any responsibility” !!
That’s the biggest problem, I agree.
It’s a mess everywhere, in Italy as well.
There were even situations where referees have admitted they have made wrong decisions after the game has ended (where VAR was used).
I prefer they do away with it. I really dislike it and what is worst no one seems to fully understand it. Announcers always seemed to be confused on what they can or can’t use it on and mislead people watching the game which only calls for more controversy.
I’m a fan. Granted it needs a few tweaks. One of them is the equality of stadium/cameras condition. That’s key to it being fair.
On the fantasy front, I can see a few heart-anxiety attacks.
