Fantasy Football FF247 Team Gameweek 17

Fantasy football tipsIf we only had LVG at the helm of our fantasy team, where would we be? It was just one of those weeks, it was just one of those weeks. In hindsight we made one mistake with our 3 transfers, but to be perfectly honest no one could have predicted that Dzeko was going to be asked to move his calf, it was understood that he didn’t need warm-ups to stand still in front of goal. Despite the mistake by Pelligrini, not us, sometimes FPL is about preventing big damage. A game-week can quickly turn into what the experts call ‘damage limitation’ and we call it a “Well…it could have been worse” week. So we did not get where we wanted in the overall, but because of our astute purchase of Eden Hazard and our then election of him as captain our week was saved.
The purchase of Hazard brought us in an Agueroesque 28 points after his score was doubled. Downing and Sanchez once again continued their scintillating form by scoring us a cool 9 points each. In the three weeks that we have had them they have delivered 22 (Downing) and 23 (Sanchez) points. Obviously the talent scout in charge of our midfield positions knows what he is doing. Now if he could have just got our supposedly great value Siggy going. Is this not becoming a bit old? He is great value has been the argument for a while, yet his 3.69 points per game over the last 13 are starting to cause division within the camp. Boyd scored his customary two points and to be honest that is his role, so you can say he delivered, sort of. So with the purchase of Dzeko and the suspension of Austin you can imagine how our forward line looked. Only Diego Costa was left to man the FF247 front line and he delivered two fold. A goal and a yellow, which has now occurred 5 times this year oddly enough. No wonder he never gets any bonus.

Our defence was led by our new man in goal Joe Hart. After careful calculation over a couple of beers we decided to do the unimaginable. We took a hit for a keeper and we were able to save face when our purchase was able to deliver a clean sheet. Because we had no playing keeper unless we made this purchase we actually gained a whole point out of this, as his 5 points paid for the hit. It’s a good thing we had such a long debate over it. Moving on, Alan Hutton really, really let us down! I know what you are thinking REALLY?! Ok, ok maybe we weren’t expecting that much, but after watching him score well over the last few weeks you sort of start to get use to it. Alderweireld delivered 2 points and this was a bit disappointing and not the fake type of disappointing either. We all knew that Southampton had it tough for a while, but a cheeky clean sheet vs Burnley would have been well received. We saved the best for last, Baines the one and only. Luckily he scored five points, unluckily that is his total over the last 5 game-weeks. There comes a time when one must stop complaining about Leighton and think what would LVG do? Guessing he probably put in a cheap untalented defender and buy another attacking midfielder type with the extra cash.

We scored 64 (-4) points for the week. We dropped 358 places and now sit in a global position of 1334. So once again we will be shooting to climb back into the top 1K and this week we won’t be so heavily reliant on the useless Dzeko.

Transfer(s) for GW17
We have done something that may surprise many of you. We have taken another four point hit and made two transfers. Dzeko obviously had to go and we looked at a number of options, including Giroud and Kane. but our conversation kept coming back to Wilfried Bony. Bang in form, consistently producing the goods and away to a struggling Hull side. However we already have three Swans so we either ignored Bony or replaced one of our Swansea players. As mentioned above Siggy hasn’t really been producing the goods and with Bony going to ACON soon our belief is that Swansea may struggle as a whole without him, so our decision to release Siggy is easier to take. We have replaced the Icelandic midfielder with Christian Eriksen of Spurs. The Dane is bang in form, has a couple of lovely fixtures coming up including Burnley at home this week and we’re expecting great things from him and also Bony.

So to confirm our transfers we have –

Sold Gylfi Sigurdsson and Edin Dzeko and bought Christian Eriksen and Wilfried Bony

Our team in full…

Fantasy football tips

We have decided to go with a 3-4-3 formation and it pretty much picks itself given the fixtures and the injuries and suspensions.

Captain

Our captain this week is Charlie Austin

Austin was a unanimous choice this week for the committee. Nicely rested after being suspended last week, QPR at home are a strong side and will launch an all out attack. With Austin being responsible for almost 50% of Rangers’ goals, it seemed the logical choice.

Our Vice Captain this week is Alexis Sanchez

The team in text format is –

Hart
Alderweireld, Taylor, Baines
Sanchez (vc), Hazard, Eriksen, Downing
Austin (c), Costa, Bony

Bench: Krul. Boyd, Bartley, Hutton

    Captain call?
I am going for Sakho at the moment but have Bony, Costa, Downing (Potty’s choice), Fab, Haz, Sanchez.
    Any views?

@odd1, you can make case for anyone on that list. You could also throw in Yaya, Austin, Eriksen, RVP which I figure you don’t own, but it speaks to the amount of choices we have this GW. I think Sakho is out of the box, but a very solid pick. I am between him, Austin or Eriksen. Sorry I can’t make a big case for any of them, but I believe you, I and a many others are still up in the air about this decision.

    Hi all,

First time posting on this site – only recently found it after formerly using FantasyFootball Cheat. All these posts are so helpful – thanks all!

Could I ask your fine selves for an RMT, perchance?

    GK Hart (Elliot)
Def Wisdom, Dummet, Baines (Hutton, Duff)
Mid Tadic, Siggy, Sanchez, Yaya Toure, Downing
    Forwards Kane, Bony, Costa

I was thinking of selling Tadic for Hazard for a 4pt hit?, but then I’m also tempted by Eriksen’s next two fixtures. I’m also worried about overloading midfield with too many big hitters

I have 3.7 mil in the bank thanks to downgrading Aguero to Bony. Also considering not taking a hit this week and just playing 3-4-3 hoping young Kane continues his goalscoring form!

Slow, 3-4-3 looks ok. Why is the Tadic to Haz switch a 4pt hit? What about Tadic to Eriksen if it is a money issue? Haz is away which usually brings less points (frustratingly as I own him)

      • Odd1Out says:

Sorry, should also have said “welcome to the site”. Lot’s of good comment on here.

        • slowdanceswithsnails says:

          Hey Odd,

Thanks for reply & the welcome! Much appreciated

I swapped Courtois for Hart at the weekend (annoyingly with Elliot injured had now gk last game week) so that was my free transfer for the week. I can swap Tadic for Hazard and have 0.6 left over. You make a top point about Haz being away, and Stoke could cause Chelsea some difficulties in scoring big points I guess making a 4pt hit not worth it? I think, if I don’t bring Eriksen in this week then it probably won’t be worth bringing him in after that as his fixtures get tougher.

May have just talked myself in to sitting tight and making no transfers this week! Do you think it might be worth bringing Hazard in for Tadic next week? Or will Jose’s rotation policy wreak havoc?

        • Odd1Out says:

You never know with Jose of course. Personally I am not averse to hits if my gut instinct tells me to do so. I recommend that you follow yours this week.

Slow welcome to the site! Long time no see, I do remember you from FFC. All the old boys are here so I hope that brings comfort with the surroundings, plus I believe all the writers are former writers from there or managers that posted regularly back then on the site.

I would probably take that hit for either. I think Eriksen is a better play this week, but rather have Hazard long term. However if we take Jose’s comments into consideration than one could make a case that perhaps Haz is best left for after the New Year. I think either one is fine. Site team took a hit for Eriksen this week, I will probably also do it. But follow your instincts on this one, you could be completely right about saving them points and making the transfer later.

Mito good sir it’s great to hear from you again! Aye gotta love the FFC crew – would surely be languishing in the bottom third of the league tables if it weren’t for you guys!

Tis indeed a tricky one. Fortunately got a few hours yet to mull this week;s moves over! Is it wrong that FF is one of the main reasons to look forward to Christmas? Maybe yes, maybe no! These GWs always throw up many a surprise!

Hi slow, I remember you from Cheat so welcome and glad you found us!

Tough one that mate, Odd makes a great point on Hazard. As for Eriksen he’s great this week and next but as you say maybe not beyond that. Will he score 4 points more than Siggy at Hull is the real question. Not sure but it’s possible. As you already have Kane I’d tempted to leave it.

      • slowdanceswithsnails says:

Thanks for the (re)welcome Initt! Great to be back here. I was out in the wilderness after the end of FFC – FF247 feels like coming home haha.

Thanks for your advice, bud, much appreciated! I think I’m leaning toward keeping my points this week – may well consider Hazard next week or in the new year. Obviously will be a tough call if I need my funds to bump Bony back to Agueroooo when Wilfried goes to the ACON and Kun (supposedly) returns from injury!

Guys I’m debating dropping Costa for Giroud, am I crazy?! Fairly happy with my team atm just don’t seem to be doing well at all! I have 1FT and 0.5m itb.

I could save the transfer but Giroud in form with his next couple of fixtures is tempting me!

    • 24.1
      inittowinit says:

Hi Peetza, I have the same frontline and like you I want to incorporate Giroud especially for next week. I considered Costa’s position but for now the plan is to keep him and replace Sakho next week with 2 FT’s and an adjustment elsewhere. So no not mad at all!

      • Peetza says:

Thanks for that init, sorry for the late reply! That sounds like a good plan to be honest, I think I’ll hold for this week and then as you say Sakho likely has to go from next week due to a couple of tricky fixtures.
        Cheers smile
