Fantasy Football GW 1 – From a Team Value Perspective. Who’s hot, who’s not?

The best way of gaining team value is to make transfers as soon as possible. Of course this comes with a risk of forcing to play subs or having to take the occasional hit. However, with the possibility of ending up with a team value of £110 million, and being able to afford that extra premium player which can be the difference, I think its worth the risk.

Players that perform exceedingly well after the first game day usually see their prices rise before the weekend is even over so we have to be quick and active- and this year is no exception! This is due to less experienced managers bringing in the player as they see a big score. As more experienced managers, we can take advantage of the less aware, and gain some profit. The FPL have a hidden formula of how they calculate price changes, but we can see it is down to the net transfers of the player, which we can track either on the FPL website itself, or the very handy ‘totalFPL’. Now we know whom everyone seems to be buying, we can tell if they will rise in price or not.
At the end of each game week, I will pick out a few players whose prices seem to be on the move, and worth some consideration in your use of that free transfer you get each week.

    1. Gylfi Sigurdsson

    Price – £6.1 million
    Ownership- 12.4% (360,1405)
    Price Change Progress – 66.5%
    Gameweek Points – 13
    Total Points – 13

I think many FF247 managers predicted this one, but Siggy failed to disappoint clocking up a goal and assist in 90 minutes, plus earning 3 bonus points. Having already forced the first price change of the season of 0.1, I can see him rising the full 0.3 this week. With there not being much competition for medium-priced midfielders, if you haven’t already, Siggy is very appealing, especially given Swansea’s upcoming fixtures of Burnley and West Brom in the next two gameweeks, both at home. Only the future can tell his consistency, but Gylfi looks to be a bargain. Just don’t put him your bench- I learnt that the hard way!

    2. Aaron Ramsey

    Price – £9.0 million
    Ownership- 39.0% (1,135,280)
    Price Change Progress – 49.1%
    Gameweek Points – 10
    Total Points – 10

Before the season started we had the debate- Ramsey or Sanchez? But in GW1 racking up a key goal, playing the full 90 and also earning 3 bonus points probably decides this debate. Rambo seems to have picked up from where he left off last season, and with many seeing him as a ‘must have’, I can see why. With the second highest ownership in the game behind Rooney, it could be a good idea to get him in your team ASAP before you fall behind. However, before jumping into things, I would probably monitor him, seeing as Arsenal face tough opposition in the coming six weeks, facing Everton, City, Spurs and Chelsea. Not to mention Wenger will hope Rambo will play a significant part on the upcoming Champions League, when Arsenal face off against Besiktas in a qualifier tomorrow.

    3. Raheem Sterling

    Price – £8.5 million
    Ownership- 33.0% (958,068)
    Price Change Progress – 64.8%
    Gameweek Points – 13
    Total Points – 13

With big expectations from many leading up to the season, Raheem produced the goods- a goal and assist, playing the full 90 and grabbing 3 bonus points. He is priced slightly below the other premium mids, and we know that 0.5 mil is (or feels) a lot at this stage of the season! Playing City and Spurs both away in the next two gameweeks is certainly a turn off, but after that Liverpool play Villa, West Ham, West Brom, QPR, Hull and then Newcastle in the next seven weeks, so Sterling could be a great investment providing he avoids injury. He is definitely on the rise so now could be a great time to grab him and make some healthy profit.

    4. Nathaniel Clyne

    Price – £5.0million
    Ownership- 2.6% (83,856)
    Price Change Progress – 22.0%
    Gameweek Points – 9
    Total Points – 9

I have mentioned 3 midfielders already, so I thought I would change it up a bit, so the biggest shock on the list- Nathaniel Clyne. The wing-back racked up 9 points scoring Southampton’s only goal, playing the full 90 with two bonus points, but unfortunately losing a point due to conceding two goals. This leads us to the biggest risk- Southampton’s defence. Having lost last season’s rock Dejan Lovren to Liverpool, the saints defence is unlikely to be a solid as it was last season. However, with the exception of playing Spurs in gameweek 7, Southampton’s fixtures look very appealing up to gameweek 12. Clyne looked to be the modern full back, regularly attacking the flank, and could well be the Luke Shaw of the seasons. With ownership so low as 2.6, I believe Clyne is well worth the punt, and can provide the perfect alternative with some offensive and clean sheet, potential. Just don’t put him your bench- I also learnt that the hard way!

    5. Cesc Fabregas

    Price – £9.0million
    Ownership- 22.5% (654,981)
    Price Change Progress – 28.0%
    Gameweek Points – 11
    Total Points – 11

Well, what a performance this lad put in tonight, he was everywhere- picking up two assists, playing 90 and also securing 3 bonus points. Playing deep in that central defensive midfielder position worried me (FPL wise), but Oscar did sit alongside Matic enabling him to get forward and show his class. No doubt that many will have seen him tonight and thought, ‘I want this guy in my team!’. I can see a price rise of at least 0.1 million with many picking him up during the Chelsea game. Whilst I’m on Chelsea I might aswell highlight Eden Hazard and Diego Costa who were both superb. Hazard did not fire tonight, but I’m sure he will rack up the points, and could even be a differential whilst everyone shifts over to Cesc- I’ll be holding onto him that’s for sure. Costa held the ball up well in the classic Mourinho striker way, and got himself a goal, and I’m sure there will be an upcoming price rise there.

    6. Others

The above 5 are my top picks that should be considered for the FT, however there are a few imminent price changes for the more ‘minor’ players. Eric Dier is currently on 92.2% potential price change, so if you have used your WC I would bring him in to make a quick 0.1 mil for your TV- the price change should take place tomorrow night. . Saido Berahino and James Chester are both in the 60’s percentage wise, so look to be rising before the next gameweek starts.

    Who to offload?

1.An injured Ross Barkley will be dropping 0.1 from 7 million tonight. Currently 81,566 managers have transferred him out (30,000 just today) but he is still held by 359,883 people, so I see the price going down to around 6.7 or 6.8, and soon after that I imagine the game administrators will price lock him after that.

2.Luke Shaw is next up, and has been transferred out 24,866 (8,591 today) times due to his injury. This could be one to watch, but if things keep going the way they are, Shaw could be 5.8 or 5.9 mil when he returns around gameweek 5.

3.Going away from injures, 20,863 (9,580 today) managers have offloaded Olivier Giroud just today. This is down to concerns over game time, as the Frenchman only played 29 minutes, and for 8.5 million- 1 point is not the return you want to be getting! Especially with the other 8.5 competition being Edin Dzeko, who picked up an assist and getting 82 minutes.

    4. Juan Mata might be a surprise guest on the list, but he is definitely one to keep an eye on. If you currently have him, I wouldn’t be rushing to offload him. However, with Cesc’s performance tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dropping to 8.9 million by the end of the week, with 10,807 loosing him already.

hope this helps, I’d love the feedback smile please be honest- feel free to tell me its rubbish.
Hope everyone had a good start for their team and their FPL team, Haz.

Evening all, yes i’m the d**k that wild cards on GW2 but i’m also the d**k that does the same thing every year, let’s try and get past that and comment on what i have done to redeem myself (a little) 😉
My big questions are: Will Sterling rise by 0.1 by Saturday? as, if not i will go for Eriksen and use the FT on Saturday to bring in Sterling. Also thoughts on Courtois and Cech rotation? Oh and i’m going 3-5-2 for the time being so Naismith becomes a playable bench warmer. Thoughts please football friends smile

      Mad,
i reckon sterling will have a possibility of rising 0.2 this week, but definitely 0.1 this GW. Due to cesc’s performance, and also due to pool’s next two fixtures, it seems less likely to rise 0.2.
courtois has no 1 spot imo.
The WC is a great time to build team value, so look to get in players that are rising, regardless of whether you want them in your team- the likes of siggy, died, berahino, sterling and ramsey.

      • MadHatter says:

Thanks mate, great post by the way, had just got in Dier and Berahino looking at TFPL but i don’t fully understand it as value has never been a factor for me but it has now peaked my attention! So if i get in Dier and say he goes up 0.1m tonight, does that mean i can transfer him out before Saturday and be 0.1m richer? Also, how do you know when a player will rise 0.1? Is it by ‘Change today’? Cheers fella

Your perspective is brilliant and I would not have considered it before now, I’ll be following your posts very closely hazardeden10, “the force is strong in this one”

Get Matt Gilks as your backup goalie.

He has experience and has just signed for Burnley so presumably he’s there to give Heaton competition for his place. A few mistakes from Heaton and you could have yourself a first choice keeper for £4m.

    mata to fabregas

Mata to Fabregas. too early to burn 8 points to change defenders. Baines has tough fixtures coming up but, at the end of the day, he’s still Baines. he may not get many CS in the next few weeks but he’ll still be streaking up & down the field.

      MadHatter says:

Tricky one as i think Mata has a lot to give especially with those fixtures, so i’ll go option 2

      B-Bash says:

      Evening Jasprit,
not sure I would be doing any of those moves just yet. We’ve played 1 game and bringing in 2 defenders for a -8, whilst getting shut of Baines seems a little too hasty mate.
Mata may still come good too.

      • jasprit says:

yup i know, but i always wanted to get fabregas in my team since the start, don’t know why i chickened out and this first week is just a trailer, pretty sure fabregas is going to be brilliant this season!
really don’t like my team without him!

i don’t think i will go with option 2 though. you’re right, 2 defenders for -8 and baines out is harsh.
maybe if i swap mata and faregas, i can take advantage of fabregas’ price rise and also slowly build towards getting in mata by GW4-5???

        • Pippin says:

There is no urgent need to get Fabregas in, especially if you have other players rising. See how the week pans out, keep an eye on progress towards price rises on TotalFPL, and above all: don’t panic! If he doesn’t score next week, or get assists, whatever, you’ll feel like a chump (especially since Mata has an easy fixture). 8pt hit is insanity.

      • MadHatter says:

Yep, agreed completely! I’m only picking option 2 if that’s your only choices, otherwise i would pick B-Bashes option 3

    Raziel says:

Really don’t get why everybody is dropping Mata, quite hilarious really. I think United can only get better and Fabregas won’t have a supergame each time. Lol. Taking hits for that so early. On that note, I’m quite lucky I have both Mata and Fabregas (and Siggy). laugh
