Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 17. This is our last ‘normal gameweek’ for a while; one that is separated by about a week anyway, without other ones following on in quick succession. The 4 gameweeks which follow this will be condensed into 14 days. And you thought rotation was bad last week?! This one may be more normal, or so you’d think…
We begin with Man City looking to respond to a rare defeat at home to Everton at lunchtime on Saturday. This is followed by five 3pm games; Palace look for a rare home win against Leicester, Huddersfield vs Newcastle promises to be a thriller *sighs, Spurs will be hoping Burnley haven’t quite found the eye of the tiger just yet, whilst Watford and Wolves will both be hoping to return to their early season form against Cardiff and Bournemouth.
Fulham will look to bounce back after their embarrassing Old Trafford mauling against a resurgent West Ham in the Saturday evening game.
Sunday begins with two games at 1.30pm with Brighton hosting Chelsea and Saints welcoming Arsenal before our gameweek ends at 4pm with Liverpool’s annual Cup Final that is Man United.

*terms and conditions apply and are available upon request. Management reserve the right to review membership of this league on an ongoing basis. If you enter and win a prize you have to have commented on the site at least 5 times for 8 consecutive months between August 2018 and March 2019 or you will not be considered for a prize. That’s basically 1 comment a week all season, we think that’s a reasonable ask to be considered a ‘regular’.

The same story every year eresh. I am playing against a team called Evolution FC which hasn’t evolved since GW 3. Aguero and Mendy are in the team and the captain is Hazard. My B team is playing against another ghost ship with 0 transfers and captain Allison 😆
haaha nice 1. last season i had actual ppl and lost in the 2nd round. hope i can go further this time.
The furthest I have managed is GW 24 few years ago. The interesting thing is that eventually we all lose to a ghost team :smiling:
Ivan, yes ghost teams can get a long way in the cup. My best run (of 5 or 6 wins, as I recall) was ended by one.
That is always the case gkw. The system of this Cup competition needs to change.
How would you change it Ivan? They can’t really differentiate a ghost game from not other than saying you have to have made at least one transfer in the previous X weeks or something? And even then I imagine they couldn’t be arsed doing that. Truth is though that if you can’t beat a ghost team on any given week then you probably deserve to go out. No ghost team has ever contested a semi-final in it, put it that way.
I agree init. It’s just there for some extra fun and not many pay attention to it.
It’s a pity that “Cup History” doesn’t track teams’ cup runs in previous years. I’d be interested to see if my “best” run was actually in one of the seasons when I’d “turned ghost” myself
@Init How about the top 4million teams in OR get into the cup after GWx rather than top 4million teams in GWx? Simples!
That would be an obvious start Zed, that rule as it is is stupid. Calling 4/5ths after 16 weeks as ‘active’ is optimistic too, maybe 2/3rds at best.
Yeah, would be a lot better than the current system though, would drop out most of the dead teams anyway, my point was more that if I could in one second think of a way to make it a lot better then surely they could brainstorm and come up with even better ways to make it work…. I don’t really care, I’m fine as it is, I agree with you that if you can’t beat a ghost team then you deserve to crash out of it!
Caught a live one here Ivan. He’s only on 18 but has 5 left with Salah capo so could be close. Suffice to say I’ll be counting buses in my sleep rather than sheep.

I’m on 29 and my opponent is on -2.
Team started GW15. Made 16 transfers last GW. Made 8 this week and played bench boost (hadn’t used any chips in first 2 weeks). Not exactly sure what they’re trying to achieve – team is crap and the league they’re entered in is mainly normal teams.

EBC, to me this looks like one of the weekly cash leagues. He created it GW 15 played the BB in this one. Most likely he will use the WC in the next and that’s it, another team after that 😉

Spend the time getting your team planned out for over Christmas on a tracker perhaps? Just a suggestion, I did it last night and wrote out a plan and feel better for it. I can always send you the tracker on excel and it’s dead easy to then make your team out of it and see how it looks.
It has been so bad this season init that I left the team on its own devices. I regret using the WC during the last IB, but then again who knows what might happen in the rush from the next round.
Well my cup opponent has a midfielder called “Alireza Jahanbakhsh” in his team and not on the bench (plays for Brighton that poor fellow) so I can safely promise that I will go to the Harrods naked on Monday to do some Christmas shopping if I lose…

I guess Diop is good then, Dunk has horrendous fixtures now and I was eyeing up a move for Digne after he plays you lot next week 
Yeah, Digne has looked quite good. I’d consider Pickford -> Leno and Dunk -> Digne, but I can’t really bring myself to use 2 FTs together on my 4th defender and my keeper when it’s not an emergency.
Yeah I can see that, I can afford Digne for Dunk in one transfer and was even thinking of doing it now and benching against Spurs (or not
) as have 2 FTs and I’m happy with my attackers for now!

Seems perfectly sensible this week. Unless Kun suddenly shows signs of starting for whatever reason and then him for Kane may be more of a priority. No reason to WC this week anyway, looks well set for it, City aside.
Just noticed Aguero has not started in 4 weeks. Any comments from Pep on this? Would love to swap the hapless Kane for him.
He’s been injured. Returned to the bench today. He’s potentially the elephant in the WC room, and none WC one, as and when he starts to start again.

Saw your question on Kane earlier pal but things were a bit hectic so couldn’t respond.
I’m keeping I think. Those fixtures just keep pulling me back in. An assist today so not a blank and that looked like a Burnley side intent on keeping a clean sheet and not much else. I think he’ll have easier days and hopefully very soon.
Ps not sure why my name disappeared! Was chanting to Init at the time and he couldn’t work it out either!

Still watching MOTD but just watched Spurs, obviously just the highlights but was worrying to see Kane playing so deep. Seems whenever Moura plays Kane drops off and has an entirely different role as opposed to sitting up top with Dele, Erik and Son. I’ll be honest I don’t know what to do!
Part of me says that I should give him the xmas matches and ignore Salah /Hazard, other part of me says I should realise he was a mistake and quickly rectify that.
My biggest issue is lack of funds as I’m pretty tied by my team if I don’t make a sacrifice somewhere! What are people’s thoughts? Particularly interested in those with Kane and without aforementioned big hitters!
Rosco, I have Kane, but I’ve had him from the off so my opinion may not matter much. I think he dropped deep a lot today because he was up against 3 CBs and wasn’t getting good service. If they get that penalty and he scores it then it totally changes the game because Burnley would have to actually play football instead of “let’s see how many players we can have in our own 18 yard box all game”. I am biased, but I think he’s been looking better and better as the season has gone along. He does have 9 goals and 4 assists on the season. He isn’t scoring as many goals, but he only had 4 assists all last season. He’s been forced ovevolve a bit as teams cue on him. I’m not sure whether this argument pushes you closer to keeping or selling though :winktongue:

No no you make some good points mate! To be fair that would have been given as a pen 9/10 so pretty unlucky! I must admit I admire your dedication to his cause, look out for a special mention in tips next week mate!
As someone without Salah and Hazard what would you do with my team this week!?

If you really want Salah (and you may!), Sterling to Salah and Alonso to David L. Sane is pretty much on par with Sterling these days and Alonso does not get many goals anymore.
Don’t make it too complicated, look at points scored so far, Salah 111, Hazard 103, Kane 91… Oh, and Salah and Hazard have a game in hand… 😉
if only it were that simple! Who would you ditch!? I’ve been so out of FPL for weeks as everything I do turns out wrong! Feel a bit more back in the fold this week and actually enjoyed MOTD for the first time in ages but still non the wiser which way to turn!

Rosco, here’s a thought: Kane and Fraser >> Aguero and Anderson!
Kane may not be a problem, but right now there’s a useful difference in price between him and Aguero. And having Aguero means you’d be able later on to switch Sterling to Salah and still have two top City players. Fraser is the midpriced midfielder you should replace, because Bournemouth don’t seem to be clicking so well now and you already have Wilson.

Np. I guess the one thing to guard against is the possibility of Salah turning into a complete must-have. There was one year when Cristiano Ronaldo was racking up so many points that even if you had all the other big-hitters you couldn’t beat having CR7 as captain. It’s not like that right now, but it could happen. Your earlier idea of selling Kane to upgrade Richarlison to Salah could make sense if he gets a big haul vs Man U.
Yeah that is at the back of my mind, I’m going to watch the match later and in particular Salah not so much to see how he scores but his general play. I’ve been in such a bad mood about FPL that I forgot how much I actually enjoy watching football (that’s how I ended up even playing fantasy) but I’m trying to adopt a more ‘mature’ outlook as I’ll be honest I was turning into the type of person I despise! Anyway enough self analysis! Short story I’m not taking it too seriously when it goes wrong and I’m back to actually enjoying games!!
