Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2

None of that Friday night nonsense this week. Our game-week kicks off at lunchtime on Saturday with Cardiff hosting Newcastle, a game that has relegation 6 pointer written all over it. We then have four games at the traditional kick off time of 3pm. Everton entertain Southampton. It’s a battle of the animals at The King Power stadium as the Foxes host Wolves. It’s an all London affair with Spurs playing host to Fulham, while Bournemouth travel to West Ham. Saturday is brought to a conclusion with the game of the weekend when Chelsea host Arsenal at 5:30pm.

Sunday brings us another three games. Burnley host Watford in a game that is unlikely to cure any hangovers. Huddersfield will be hoping to improve on their opening day result but that’s unlikely as they entertain Manchester City. If you’re still hungover come 4pm you might as well switch off the TV as Brighton host Jose and his merry men.

Our game-week is brought to an end with the first Monday Night Football of the season and it has the potential to be a cracker as Liverpool travel to London to face Crystal Palace.

Hi all, hope your weekends are going well. David Silva and Ings or Mkhi and Zaha? Already have Aguero and Mendy. No players from the other teams.

    Cheers

Question guys. How is Joshua King playing? Is it worth replacing him? And with whom? Got 7,3 for a replacement striker.

    DMC says:

Can’t follow all the nonsense complains from those that HAVE Aguero but didn’t captain him. I have him and haven’t but I always want my players to score big even if their not my capo and also when the %capo is against me. Surely it affects your OR if your capo then fails but you are still gaining ground regarding all the other managers that don’t even own him (65%). That changes come season end with the ML situation and all but surely not at this stage. I very much welcome Aguero’s 20 pts.

      WhoIsRonaldo says:

Yes better have him and not captained than not have him at all when he scores big. When he is at home and Salah away it’s going to create a bit of decision headaches imo

      • DMC says:

Yeah. If he keeps this form and is first choice he’ll be up there with Salah, not only for home/away I’d say. We’ll also need to address the Kane issue at some point.

      inittowinit says:

Not really see many such complaints mate? If you had him then happy days as you say. If you didn’t cap him then you’re probably on Salah tomorrow anyway and in which case a couple of returns and it’s a fairly even keel.

      RedKev says:

Agree …Salah vs Agüero is a nice decision to have to make …either capable of scoring big and no one knows…Salah is well capable of scoring just as much tomorrow! Don’t regret till points are in! Also depends whether leading or chasing re going big or playing safe!

      Zed Leppelin says:

Well it depends how close one was to captaining him, you see, if you were set on Salah (or someone else) captain all week then I agree with you, but it just hurts those you had Aguero as captain all week and then changed just before deadline (like me)… I thought Aguero would start, but then decided to captain Salah cause he was 100% whereas Aguero was not, there was always a chance of Pep roulette kicking in… But I thought Aguero would start, mind, and still put the armband on Salah, just disgusted with myself and my own decision-making! Of course I’m happy to get the 20pts though!

Also, in my ML, everyone has Aguero (C) except me, so it hurts even more! I don’t really care about OR much. So, it depends on the context, DMC, like everything does!

      • inittowinit says:

You played safe Zed, nothing wrong with that.

Genuine question though if I may – how much of that final decision was influenced by that James Jackson tweet / article?

Not picking at scabs here btw, asking for a friend who is currently writing an FPL article (me!).

        • secretzorro says:

It started with a tweet that cookie posted, then it appeared in The Guardian, I posted that and I think it was Steve that noticed there were no quotes so it was idle speculation, I went for a trawl and other sites had the same tweet, so I kept cpt Kun smile. Check with cookie, I think my memory is right, for once.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I wasn’t affected by the article, as I said I thought Aguero would probably start, so I didn’t choose Salah because I was afraid Aguero would have been benched… The fear of Pep rotating Aguero was there even without the article, so that didn’t change anything for me. The reasoning was:

          1) Salah was 100% to start, Aguero was not (he was maybe 95%, or whatever, that doesn’t matter, just that he wasn’t 100%)

          2) I also thought Salah could outscore Aguero even if Aguero started, Hudds had a good record against City last season and I thought they would just defend with 10 men and make it a bit dull affair, perhaps 1-0 or 2-0… Whereas Palace would attack Pool more, so I thought Liverpool had better chance of scoring big (and how wrong was I with City scoring 6 LOL)… Well we don’t know how many Salah/Pool will score yet, do we smile

        • inittowinit says:

I don’t recall asking you SZ but thanks for your input? smile I’m aware of the timeline on it all. It appeared in the Guardian and then was tweeted out by them and subsequently by Jose Alvarez. It appeared on here about an hour later.

Thanks Zed. So the article had zero impact on you at all, interesting. Thank you.

        • Kralin says:

Probably not possible to work it out but it would be interesting to see how many switched captain late on. Aguero was a pretty settled choice, as far as I could tell, early in the week. Then The Guardian – then a snowball effect.

John Harris is just about the only journalist I trust now who writes for The Guardian . And I don’t think he covers sport.

        • inittowinit says:

I’m guessing a lot. That sound about accurate?!

        • Kralin says:

PS, bad luck Zed but you don’t have a bad plan B lined up for tomorrow night.

        • Kralin says:

Definitely. Even the site team here I think. And prominent people in the community beyond. That would have sped the avalanche.

All this will be forgotten if Salah gets a couple or more tomorrow. Which he could well do. I hope he does.

But one of the things I most enjoyed today was Ederson’s assist.

        • inittowinit says:

We did indeed vote to move it. It was almost certainly the sensible thing to do in light of everything.

And yes let’s see how it all looks after tomorrow as there may not be much in it if Salah gets a couple of returns.

Ederson’s assist was my highlight too! He’d been playing odd and risky balls out prior to that, with success to be fair, and so yeah that did make me smile.

        • DMC says:

We’re all responsive to the ‘anfield express effect’. Any and all potential leaked lineup/squad selection is being credited as facts. Last week we had something similar with Pogba and UTD CB and they were spot on. This week it was all about Jesus and to be fair to the leaking source he did start and scored. They just missed the Kun also playing bit.

I had it in on Salah all week so it didn’t affect my decision but had I went for Kun then yeah second thoughts could have come into play. Kudos to those who had him already and kept it on him.

        • inittowinit says:

Anfield Express proved themselves to be 100% accurate though. I’d have set a team and capo choice by them. Probably did, actually.

        • DMC says:

In deed. Me too. That’s what I meant – we’re all expecting these late leaks to be the next anfield express. And while some may be accurate (like last week), some others may fail (like this week, partially).

        • KI says:

I hung tough, but I will admit I stared at it for two hours, went to bed, and couldn’t find any elaboration in the very early eastern Canadian morning.
My recollection, possibly faulty, is that Anfield Express proved its worth over a number of weeks; who is Jose Alvarez? And James Jackson goes on my delete list-just trying to add a column to their paper/website?

        • billisBob says:

People probably know this already but the Anfield Express leaks are over. Danny Ward was outed as the leaker!! Apparently he told his driver who told the Andfield Express. Interesting situation IMO, not sure we will get such a reliable outlet again – most stories with Man City this week did seem to be speculation really. Can’t remember who but someone on the site clocked the Jesus – Aguero partnership due to Mendy being back! Kudos to them!!

And adding to the discussion on Captain regret, I’ve had it a few times – namely Suarez against Norwich when the school wifi cut out as I tried to change it before the deadline hahaha!
This week however I did not at all, and I knew Aguero probably had the higher ceiling this week, but I knew Salah was the safe choice. I’m deliberately taking a more methodical approach this season after impulsive decisions have cost me a bit in the past, eg, hits and ‘outside of the box’ captains. At least for the first half of this season I’m trying to force myself to play safer. I know that as long as I stick to the ‘safer’ choice overall, the points will even out due to points wasted from for instance a sturrridge captaincy cancelling out an Aguero one today. My 10 pence haha

      constantine says:

There’ll be a GW or (more may be) when Kun will come from bench for a one pointer and 50% of the teams would have him as captain. If we have Salah as a captain then, the situation would reverse.. it’s always best to play safe. Rest the beauty of this game lies in the uncertainty only. If this element is removed, what’s the fun then??

      • Kralin says:

Will be interesting to see how many go for Kun this week (in what’s almost as appealing a game as Huddersfield) based on what happened.

But I agree entirely. But Salah could (and I hope does) score at least a couple tonight. So it may not be too bad for people after all.

And Salah at home this weekend will I’m sure be top of the pops this week.

        • constantine says:

Kralin. I have Salah as captain for tonight mate. No one would wish for his hattrick more than me. Even if he scores one, I’ll be happy
