Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 20. Did you manage to complete our 4 TV games in a day challenge on Boxing Day? If you lived to tell the tale then well done and you can almost do it all over again today. Go on, we dare you…

It’s yet another GW spread over two days, only this time there are a few less crammed in on the first day as Saturday sees just 7 games beginning with Brighton and Bournemouth getting us started at lunchtime, followed by Newcastle v Everton, Southampton v Palace and Watford v Villa all at 3pm. There are then a couple of games in the 5.30pm slot with West Ham hosting Leicester and Spurs going to Norwich. Burnley and Man Utd see Saturday out in the evening fixture.

Sunday begins at 2pm with a London derby as Chelsea go to Arsenal, followed at 4.30pm with Wolves hosting Liverpool and the GW ends with Man City welcoming Sheffield United at 6pm.

Thankfully we all then get a bit of a breather as GW21 doesn’t begin until Wednesday.

The games in full…

    VAR
There have been many comments about this technology and how it is used in the game. I have a few thoughts –
    1. In today’s world, there is no excuse for not using technology to enhance sport
    2. Some people complain about delays to decisions; but were they the same types that complained about previous decisions which video replay showed to be incorrect?
    3. Don’t forget how awful it felt to have a goal/penalty/decision given incorrectly against your team. Would you like to have that again?
    4. Don’t whinge about the system, but rather think about how it can be better applied.
One idea re offside – “measure against the torso of the player rather than an outstretched limb”. This seems to me to be an easy copy from athletics and one which more appropriately reflects the position of players. Frankly I will be amazed if this is not applied come the next review.
    Anything else?

Agreed! VAR has it’s issues but it’s better than what used to be, and people should think of ways in which to improve it rather than hate it imo!

      I personally disagree.
The game is better without VAR. Whole of it.
Use some technology like goal-line, have penalty area refs to help the main ref, and that’s it, keep it a live game with live human decisions.
      That’s my view smile

My only issue with VAR is with marginal offsides. Disagree entirely with ‘if its offside, its offside’ when its a ref in Stockley Park choosing which pixel corresponds to a defenders shoulder or a strikers boot – still subjective in some way.

Waiting 3 minutes to see that somebodys nose was < 1mm offside (according to the pixel the VAR ref selected) 7 passes before the goal went in is ridiculous.

If the VAR ref can't see if the decision was wrong in a real-time replay, don;t overturn it. Should be there for clear and obvious errors, like Hawk Eye for cricket.

Also, doesn't seem to be being used for holding on corners?

Yeah as said there are many issues, but they can be improved, it’s just that using video technology is, in essence, better than not using video technology… Without VAR we had goals give that were miles offside and everyone could see it, everyone including the refs could see it on video in retrospect, and that’s more absurd than these issues that VAR currently has, imo
