Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 3

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 3. “It’s time to play the music, It’s time to light the lights…”. With game-weeks 1&2 done & dusted it’s time to sit down and hopefully enjoy GW3, our final game-week before the international break. Our game-week kicks off at lunchtime on Saturday as a pointless Bournemouth take on a City side who have yet to sparkle. This is followed by four 3pm kick-offs, all of which appear to be rather uninspiring. Saturday concludes with free scoring United hosting a Leicester City side who look somewhat rejuvenated this season.

At 1:30pm on Sunday Chelsea will look to build upon their win over Spurs as they face Spurs. At the same time West Brom host Stoke in what is likely to be an enthralling game!! 4pm sees Liverpool host Arsenal in a game that has a history of goals. Also at 4pm those that have sold and those have held onto Harry Kane will be biting their nails as he seeks to break his August duck as Burnley visit Wembley.

Greetings all! Quick ramble as food for thought…
In the past we have almost always been driven toward packing as many attackers as possible into our starting 11. I’m wondering if playing 4 or even 5 at the back will become a viable option? Here’s why. Traditional EPL formation was either 442 or 433. Either way, a team had a keeper and 4 defenders in the side, which gave us 5 defensive options per team for FPL. This left 6 mids/forwards, with 1 usually a DM. This means there were really 5 defensive options and 5 attacking options per team.
With the new trend toward a back 3 with wingbacks we now have 6 defensive options in a lot of teams and only 3-4 attacking options (taking out 1-2 Defensive mids played in this new system). I think this may be partially to blame for the lack of attacking options and the ease with which we slip into a template team.
    Thoughts on this???

I don’t know it maybe successful on some weeks in fpl view but I would still bet on 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 getting more points over the course of the season. Still getting wing backs and playing in fpl maybe successful as many teams have switched to that formation

I think it helps to look at things on an individual basis.

Alonso, at 6 mil SP (maybe 6.5) last season scored 177 points. The only budget players who got near to this were Defoe and Sigurdsson, who both cost slightly more anyway. Looking at the 7 mil and less players this year, Chicarito is about the only player I think could even compete with a 150+ score and he’s playing for a team who look less than convincing.

I started with 5 at the back this season because I thought a Davies/Bertrand pairing would score more than say the Gross/Ince pairing the site team went with. Budget players are very difficult to pick at the beginning of a season. They can be incredible (like Michu at 6 mil in 2012) but more often than not they do not impress (Knockaerts championship form has not translated yet).

When you can find budget attacking players combined with good fixtures, the ceiling is much higher. However, a solid Chelsea/Spurs/United defender will always be around the 140-150 mark (if they lay every game) and the additional attacking returns for wingbacks like Alonso/Davies/Baines (set pieces)/Kolasinac (he will come good at LWB) just make them such a good prospect in my opinion.

I will continue my 5 at the back experiment for as long as I feel it is working this year and see where I end up at the end of the season.

I’m not sure about Kolasinac. Sure he’s a beast going forward but his positional play is awful. I think I’d rather have Monreal as LWB.
I’m not sure Wenger knows if he prefers 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 yet which might mean rotation between Kol and Monreal.

      Morning Pancho.
I know what you’re saying mate. The new popular EPL wing backs formations impact on FPL is more driven by whether it’s Defenders or Midfielders taking up the wingback spots.
For the likes of Alonso, PVA etc it’s great and makes picking a 4/5 at the back more likely. But then there are The Ox, and other kids that are now less desirable in Fantasy as they’ll have to do more defending. On balance I think I agree with you that the changes do lean more towards more FPL defenders.

Anyone in the U.K., if you can get decent odds, I’d stick a few quid on Rooney getting booked in the second half.

The one scoreline I didn’t want to see was West Brom 0-0 Stoke as both my rivals have Butland and WBA defence, but I can’t see any other scoreline after that first half…

Liverpool have dropped keeper Migs apparently.

    Hi Folks,

I currently have a midfield of: Willian Rambo Salah KDB (corroll)

I am trading KDB for David Silva as he been playing further forward and KDBs 3 blanks and price drop makes me hate him!
    (keeps city coverage)

My main question is do I bin Willian or Ramsey for micky?
