Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 5
Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 5. We can but hope that this article doesn’t come as a surprise to you on a Friday evening and that you aren’t currently sat there thinking “either they’ve made a big mistake, or I’ve made an even bigger one!”. Well, we haven’t, and we are really sorry if you did!
The game-week begins with yet another uninspiring televised clash, as Bournemouth host Brighton on Friday night. Not one that many people will be hurriedly cancelling Friday night plans for then. If you do feel so compelled though you can always rearrange those plans for about 12:30pm on Saturday to coincide with the next woeful TV offering – Crystal palace vs Southampton. Seriously, we pay good money for this stuff. Add those to last week’s run of Burnley vs Palace / Swansea vs Newcastle / West Ham vs Huddersfield, and with the greatest of respect to the teams involved there can anyone ever recall a worse run of 5 televised games?!
Deep breaths.
Onto Saturday’s 3pm fare then, and we have five games, many of which will hold a fantasy football interest –
Huddersfield will hope to improve on their poor showing on Monday night as they host Leicester.
Liverpool, sans Mane, have a potentially plum home game with a Burnley team who traditionally don’t travel that well.
Newcastle and Stoke may hold more interest in the handshake shenanigans than any on the field activities.
Watford, having had a strong start, will look to test a potentially vulnerable Man City back line in what may be a very entertaining fixture, perhaps not so much if you own defenders from either side.
West Brom and West Ham may have the antidote to the above though, just in case you get over excited.
Saturday evening returns us to the television and at least this time there is some semi entertainment as Spurs will be looking for a first PL win at Wembley against an ailing Swansea
Sunday does finally bring some strong games back to the big screen. Arsenal host Chelsea in the early one and then Man United play Everton in the late one to bring our game-week to a close.

Sigh horrible week.
Wildcarded ..got rid of Atsu..and lukaku…and ended up with 48 points..
Tempted to make irrational changes…kane to aguero??
The sane me says keep this team..any thoughts?
Thanks guys.
Oops..here it goes.
Stick with it. You’ll be forever chasing points on the forwards as we can only have 3 of Kane, Jesus, Aguero, Lukaku, Morata and plenty more. Looks to be a good team
Thanks SAFs_hairdryer.
Just so disappointed…was doing lascelles too before a last minute change to simpson.
Oh well…
Hope u had a good week!
I wouldn’t be getting rid of Kane. I now have both Kun & Kane and I’m very tempted to cappo Kane at West Ham.
Would u advice tweaking the team to include kun?
Well I’ve just panic WC’d to get him in there, so you might be asking the wrong person! If you were to do it I think it has to be for Jesus, and to get the funds I’d probably downgrade Alonso. That said, Jesus could easily be the one with the hatty against Palace. Nice team by the way, very similar to my WC team.
Thanks banjomaker!
Appreciate your advice!
Anyone gone Aguero yet? A lot seem to be transferring him in
Yes! And it feels great… I’d highly recommend it 😉
Must……stay……strong…..
Yes
Remember last season when everyone scrambled to get him in after his injury and ripped their team to bits only for him to be on the bench…..?
Don’t say that…
Yep I remember that -8
Best 4.5 keeper + 4.5 defender combo?
Currently I’m with Fabianski & Simpson.
It’s that or Foster and Naughton
Cheers Smash. The keeper will end up playing most weeks (Elliott on the bench), whilst the defender will often be benched (behind Davies, Jones & Otamendi).
With that in mind, and looking at immediate fixtures, I’m thinking Fabianski & Simpson is slightly better?
Yeah I think Fabianski and Simpson shades it
Just get a 4.0m non playing keeper and play Elliott every week.Saves you .5m and the pain of benching the wrong one.
Would you honestly recommend that? I don’t like the idea of having to play Elliott every week. Although it would find me the extra 0.5 I’m after for Otamendi to Kolosinac!
It’s something I’m thinking of doing when I wc.I don’t like rotating keepers at the best of times and Newcastle have decent fixtures. If he gets injured you just transfer him out no biggie.Over a season your keeper is likely to be the lowest scoring player in your team unless you had Heaton last season.
Interesting. Cheers Brooky, I’ll certainly consider that. I was trying to find a way of turning getting Kolosinac in the team.
I tend to do that route every season at some point
That don’t mean it’s good though
I often have a non playing keeper on the bench, but not with a 4.0 keeper as my number one!
I see Potty captained Kun this week.
https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/223880/event/5
Great score for him this week.Don’t see him on here much these days, hope he is ok ? No Spurs attack,he know something we don’t ??
Haha, good on him! He does take a punt 38 weeks of every season though…
Anyone know how lg Vardy might be out & best replacement @ 7.5m or below ????
Tbh I don’t see much value in the strikers in that range. The only one even remotely interesting was chicarito but that was so week 2! Lol
Being serious though
Maybe Rooney is the best of a bad bunch. Evertons fixtures are getting better
I love the wisdom and reading the different thought processes of the regulars on this site. I get all the info I need. Climbed to 67k ranking, had best start for a few years. Thanks.
I have a question regards fixtures.
When people look at upcoming games for a player, in particularly a forward, do you consider the opponent team defence as a group, or do you look at one on one match ups?
I don’t understand the game well enough, but would Kane have been ‘marked’ by a specific Swansea defender or is it just a team effort.
Marking Kun, would be a lot different to marking Kane. Or am I just over thinking it?
Being an Aussie, I follow AFL. The best way of stopping the opponents best player is to put your best defender on them, and some teams are very good at that especially when there is a good match up. Does this happen much in soccer?
Hi bundeena. Personally I just look at e.g. Kane/Aguero and their next 5/6 matches. Then look at those fixtures and how good their opponent’s defences are. Do they keep many clean sheets, how did they cope playing them last season etc.
I mean you can have a guess, but I think looking on it in a “who’s going to be marking him way” may have too many variances because any player can have a good or bad day, the manager may have a different trail of thought to you and then your plan is completely out the window.
It sounds like you know what you’re doing though, great rank!
Thanks Milburn, I might be over thinking it. I wast sure how defences line up, in AFL it is very Man on man, so you are careful of a forward who is playing a team who has a gun defender, even though the rest of the team might be crap.
My rank is purely because of these guys.
