PRE-SEASON HUB 2020/21
Introduction
Gone are the days of Premier League teams jetting off to China, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia for their pre-season preparations – at least for this pre-season. Here’s hoping things in the world are again on the right side of normal this time next season and I for one will never again take the Premier League Asia Trophy for granted.
In this shortened period between the 2019-20 season ending and the 2020-21 season beginning (consider that Manchester United & Manchester City players will not even be through passport control with their families as they head on holiday whilst Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham commence a stretch of their legs with their first pre-season matches), I will again document the ins and outs and ups and downs of all 20 Premier League teams pre-season on this article as we hurtle towards the new season.
Below is a guide to the matches CONFIRMED so far – there will be more. For instance, as you’ll see, there are clubs who have not yet announced any matches. Seeing as all games will be behind closed doors anyway, I would expect the clubs to be transparent about their matches, not least to let their own supporters know what’s going on and I’ll be there to take advantage.
As is the norm – if you feel comfortable in doing so – please record any and all pre-season news here under the relevant team comment. I’ll round up each day with anything missed relating to line-ups, goals, assists, injuries, playing positions etc.
You’ll find a comment relating to each of the 20 teams below.

Morning folks. Thinking I might try a more “hands off” approach to FPL this season by running a semi-ghost team in my main leagues and try to play “properly” with my doubles team (so Ivan can do all the work there ).
Not sure I’ll be able to resist tinkering post GW1, but I’m thinking I might try to avoid transfers completely and perhaps just play my WCs and chips at some point.
With that in mind, I’m currently on this setup. I want it to be as “hands free” as possible, so looking more at surety of starts (City aside!) whilst also trying to pick proven point scoring assets so the team will hopefully also be competitive.
I’m pretty set on most players bar Aurier (could be Tarks or Taylor), Rice (Soucek instead?), Ferguson and Stephens (both upgradeable to the likes of Saliba/£4.5m and Soucek/£5.0m if I get Taylor instead of Aurier).
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Big at the back that’s interesting. By the looks of it Aurier might be on his way
Oh really? Not sure I’d fancy any other Spurs defenders, so perhaps that kinda makes my decision for me.
A couple of thoughts…
1) if you’re going hands off, what about Williams of LIV for sub? 4.0 and if TAA doesn’t play, safe bet Williams will
2) Tierney an option for Aurier?
3) Why not put Button to start? Only way he’ll play is if Ryan is injured or sent off. No predicting when either will happen. Button first choice just avoids minus points for Ryan sending off…
Thanks for the ideas there. I didn’t realise Williams was first choice in TAA’s absence.
TAA will play the majority of games unless he’s injured. It’s a nice idea, but picking Williams is just a waste of a Liverpool spot.
Morning
How is everyone getting on with there teams?
This is my latest version, think I have a plan to get some UTD and City coverage.
Bench will be sorted in due course 😉
Looks decent enough for me. Do you see Saka starting? He was benched for the cup final for example
Tell us your plan and we’ll tell you what we think!! Hope you’re well mate! Love that you always support your club in your FPL team.. I’ll not be doing that with mine but your lot are not a total sh@tshow!! :good:
Wish I could pick players from my club in my FPL team Rosco :big-lol:
and me!
I like it mate! I’d second what Smash says and ask will Saka play? I don’t think he will but you’d possibly have more of an idea.
Nyland to start the season then
Looks like everyone will have Nyland then!
What are people’s opinions on Doherty? Is he worth the 6 mil as Traore did play in his position the odd time last season. I’m leaning towards a 442 and playing the Wolves man the majority of the time especially for the opening fixtures.
I have him alongside TAA as my 2 premium defenders. I believe he is worth 6m and will very likely be in the top 5 defender points at seasons end.
Yeah right now I’m thinking Dot, TAA, two 4.5 defs and a 4.0 def.
Yup. My issue is whether I will get Vinagre or not.
I don’t think I’ll do the double up as there are a few 4.5 defs I’m liking
I honestly can’t make my mind up it changes daily. I think he’s a decent enough option. Wolves look fairly solid. He does not get as many assists or goals as his positioning suggests. I think I saw his XG and XA was down since lockdown. Think I’d prefer Greenwood/Foden as a 4th mid going forward
I thought I saw that it went up after lockdown? The taking away of funds from midfield is what’s stopping me to be fair
I have him and TAA as my premium defenders. He’s good value too: CS points, the odd assist and goal.
He’ll be in my team every week – I’m not leaving his 6m on the bench .
Cheers Atlas and Constant! So I’m not alone in my thinking then. I’ll see if I keep him in my drafts but right now I’ve got one with him and one without him. Both have their pluses and minuses
He’s in my team for now. And I think I’ll hold on to him.
Yes he’s in strong contention for mine. The problem is I would bench him GW2 and GW1 isn’t that great. I will definitely take him after the 1st WC, just not sure to start with him.
I have Doherty in my current draft. Also have Vinagre. And TAA. And the Palace cheapo. Can’t make up my mind between VVD or Robbo.
This is very much draft mode.
Egan seems a very popular pick.
I do wonder if I should suck it up and remove Auba and Son for KDB and Fernandes after week one. I know Auba has the better fixture than KDB but the 0.5 is doing my head in
I think Auba will be staying in my team for the first two anyway. I’m super torn.
I have 1.5M itb. I will do Son -> Bruno for 1st transfer, before price rises. Then Auba -> KdB later.
I’ve got the same plan, LRL, not quite sure I’ve got 1.5m though. It is a very tricky situation in terms when’s the time to make the transfers, though. If Son and Auba come out the gates blazing it’s going to make it hard to transfer them out!
And it’ll be interesting to see how Vardy and Kane get on – it’s going to be tricky to squeeze them in too 😯 .
That sounds like a -4 to me….
It does. 4-4-2 might have to do to start the season. Bench Greenwood and do Son to a Bruno week one
Oh and playing 5 at the back week one
The problem for me is unless PEA/Salah have a great GW1, they may be the same price as KDB by the start of GW2. May be all 11.8m.
Hence I’m tempted by the -4 route.
That’s my line at the moment. I’m trusting that Auba and Son points justify my choice in planning -4 (for KDB Bruno) rather than benching one or both.
Yeah you could be right on that. If Auba blanks there could be mass sales. Price changes could be volatile in that area
1.5 ITB. GW2 Son to Bruno. Please comment.
I like it! The double Pool was something I was interested in just think there are better options for the start as Pool’s fixtures aren’t the best.
Thanks MattX, I wonder if I can be improve it somehow, not sure for defenders.
