Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW17
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. While Arsenal and Manchester City have yet to play, our leaders are significantly ahead of the game points-wise and all the top ten have the same three forwards. So, let’s take a look at what the leaders doing.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 17?
This week, there was a lot of variety when looking at the best-of-the-best’s captain’s pick. 40% chose Lukaku (12 points), 30% selected Mahrez (30 points), and 10% had Wollscheid (2 points), Ozil (TBD) and Ighalo (26 points).

What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?
* Two of the leaders have yet to deploy any of their chips.
* Two of the leaders have deployed ALL of their chips.
* The average amount of gameweek’s our leaders have remained in the top 10 is 3.1 weeks.
* 4 of the top 10 are new to the top.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 17?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 30% had Butland and 10% had Gomes and Hennessey.
Defenders: This week we saw 17 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Alderweireld (50%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Smalling came in at 40% while Bellerin was the next most popular pick with 30% ownership followed by Moreno, Koscielny, and Dann, with 20% and Zouma, Delaney, Skrtel, Dier, Shawcross, Cresswell, Azpilicueta, Wollscheid, Kolarov, Coleman, and Clyne each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 12 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Winjnaldum, Amautovic, Cabaye, Deulofeu, Bolaise and Silva. Mahrez was the most popular with 100% ownership followed by Ozil at 90%, Barkley at 80%, Ayew at 30%, and DeBruyne and Couthinho at 20% a piece.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of ONLY 3 picks among the top managers which is a first for this weekly article. 100% of the top managers selected Vardy and Lukaku while another 80% also had Ighalo.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 17 were Alderweireld, Mahrez, Ozil, Barkley, Lukaku, Ighalo and Vardy as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
* The average score for Gameweek 17 among the top 10 was 68.6 points which is currently 24.6 points above average for the week.
* There was a good variety of countries represented this week. 40% of managers came England while the other 6 countries represented were Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Nepal, Australia and Sweden.
* The average team value was £106.8 with £107.7 being the highest team value and £105.6 being the lowest value.
* 28 points separates 1st place from 10th.
