Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW23
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. Just in case you were interested, this article was started in Shanghai, edited in Detroit and completed in NYC. What a day and what a game week especially if you had key players such as Aguero, Alli (who was sitting on my bench) and Ighalo! Let’s take a deeper look to see what our fantasy leaders are doing in order for us to better assess and plan any possible next moves.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 23?
This week you might be surprised to know that only 40% of the top ten managers selected Aguero (24 points), especially since 80% of our top managers own him. An additional manager also chose wisely in selecting Ighalo (24 points), while another 40% selected Lukaku (4 points) with the last remaining manager selecting Kane (10 points).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have already deployed their 2nd wildcard. These leaders certainly thought it would be beneficial to take such a chance early on. What we are seeing is that the wildcard is pretty essential if you need/want to bring Aguero in due to his hefty price tag and that is what the leaders are essentially doing. 40% of the top leaders have used all their chips which is inclusive of 2 wildcards, the all-out-attack, bench boost and triple captain.

What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?
Four of the top 10 for this week have been in the top 10 for over 10 weeks!
-Our 8th ranked leader, Struthious D, a player we have discussed a few times in this piece has held the first place position for an impressive 7 weeks and the second place position for 5 weeks. Struthious D, took a small dive this week as he only brought in 37 points.
-Wombats, our number two has finally returned to the top ten after being MIA for a few weeks. Wombat held the top position for Gameweeks 10, 11 and 12.
-None of our leaders have ever finished in the top 1%.
-2 of our leaders are new to the top ten.
Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 23?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 60% of the top managers selected Cech while 30% had Butland and 10% de Gea.
Defenders: This week we saw 17 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Alderweireld (70%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Sagna and Bellerin came in at 40% while Koscielny was the next most popular pick with 30% ownership followed by Johnson and Dann with 20%, and Morgan, Shawcross, Fonte, Nyom, Smalling, Francis, Huth, Azpilicueta, McAuley, Dier and Simpson each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 12 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Wijnaldum, Cabaye, Yaya Toure, and Barkley. Mahrez was the most popular pick with 80% ownership followed by Ozil at 60%, Payet and Alli at 50%, De Bruyne at 30% and Ayew, Willian and Deulofeu at 20%.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 6 picks among the top managers. Aguero came in with 80% (and I am sure this will rise to 100%) while Kane, Lukaku and Ighalo each had 60% ownership. Vardy was selected by 30% of the top managers with Giroud on 10%.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 23 were Cech, Alderweireld, Mahrez, Alli, Payet, Ozil, Kane, Lukaku, Ighalo and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
-The average score for Gameweek 23 among the top 10 was 59.2 points which is meager 16.2 points above average for the week. (Statistically it has been much higher in past game weeks).
-England maintained control of most of the leader board as 40% of the top 10 were from England. The remaining countries were Australia, Scotland, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden, and Denmark.
-24 points separates 1st place from 10th.
Best of luck in Gameweek 24!

i dont have any money in the bank .. so should i save my FT for next gw?? Any suggestions regarding starting XI would be appreciated very much
Hey hochoki team looks set to me hold TF (good team)
Yep looks great, definitely hold that transfer hochoki.
Awful campaign so far for me, roll on next season May take a punt on Payet (c) next week, who’s in?
Hey Mad how are we not a great season for me either I was even considering a GK for Cap in DGW , but I would be in for any punt @ the present 😉
Wrong captain choices and point hits are the culprits so I only have myself to blame! Doesn’t matter how much you know about football it’s all down to being shrewd and getting lucky with educated guesses!
Couldn’t hold off anymore. Had 2 FT and went For the Boss himself Aguero, Ayew and Fabianski for Vardy, Arnautovic and De Gea.
Nice one Chris, hope it all works out bud
Hopefully it does but this has been an unpredictable season
Captaining Aguero this week?
Palace have signed Adebayor on a free transfer – any takers?!
Depends what’s his price?
Not up yet Wafflez – I’m estimating 5.5-6mln
Might be an interesting alternative to Ighalo then
Yes a good alternative but Austin too
Might be worth a look while he’s on a temporary contract. As soon as he signs a permanent one he’ll be back to his usual shite self
Lol so true
Not for me
Can’t believe lukaku, KDB and Ozil are going to fall in the next few days!!
Debating whether or not to get rid of lukaku and KDB for ighalo and Sanchez before they drop!
Interesting that Mitro, I was thinking of going the other way (Ighalo to Lukaku).
Ighalo’s fixtures are bad whilst Everton have a great run.
Said it two weeks ago, Lukaku hasn’t scored against any of the big teams this season and he maintained that record – I’d imagine he’ll be a must have after this midweek performance.
I’m thinking KDB and Ighalo to Alli and Lukaku, so nnot really a fan of your moves going the other way! haha
But can see why you want Sanchez in.
should I just do the KDB to Sanchez move now and keep lukaku for one more week?
What if Sanchez then gets injured this weekend in the cup ??
Didn’t realise you would be able to, yes that seems very sensible to me. Chelsea looking better again anyway. Would certainly prefer Lukaku at home to Newcastle than Ighalo (at home?) to Chelsea.
Brooky – if that happens then the FF gods are conspiring against me!! If I can hold off until after the Burnley game I will
Its a sign mate, telling you to hold on those transfers for another week at least.Learn to be patient, you cant get every decision right and score 80 points every week…………..
By the way if stoke win tonight you will need to change Mccarthy to a playing keeper for gw27.
dont worry I have a plan
Patient?! I have heard that word a few times in my life! Unfortunately in my world Rome was built in a day
The ighalo move would be just to cancel out my main opponents in my ML!
If your ML opponents don’t have Lukaku and do have Ighalo then I think you’re in the better position to be honest.
I’d deffo give Lukaku one more gw mate.Newcastle at home ?? Plum fixture ! If he blanks again then bin him.
No!
Good luck with your moves
Cheers NIN I can always count on you
They should really work out way where we can slap a manager. 😉
Lol how do mito! Hope you are well my Colombian friend?
All good mate, just getting ready to go watch a little indoor action.
Thanks Beka for taking the time to put this together, it is well appreciated.
