Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW16
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. Once again, the gameweek has not yet ended as Leicester and Chelsea have yet to play, but nonetheless it’s always interesting to take a peek at the current trends amongst this week’s leaders. It is interesting to note that sometimes, because of the weekly fluctuation of leaders, we will see variance in the top selected picks. This week however, while leaders changed, top selections remained quite constant. Let’s take a look.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 16?
This week, 50% of the top ten managers selected Lukaku who made managers quite happy as he brought in a healthy 18 points. Our other top managers selected DeBruyne (20% and 2 points), Ozil (10% and 12 points), Ighalo (10% and 14 points) and Kane (10% and 4 points).
Of the top 10, how many players do they have remaining in the Leicester/Chelsea match?
100% of the top 10 have Mahrez while 60% also have Vardy. There are no other players in their lineups.
What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?
* Two of the leaders have yet to deploy any of their chips. Three of the leaders have exhausted all of their chips.
* The longest “reign” of any top 10 manager has been 7 weeks while 2 of the top leaders are new to the top.
* All in all, most chips have been used by most leaders.
* The best performing finish of any of the leaders is a very unimpressive 39,890.
Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 16?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Butland or Hart and 10% had de Gea.
Defenders: This week we saw 14 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Alderweireld (80% and 1 point) was the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Dann and Kolarov had 40% ownership followed by Moreno, Koscielny, Bellerin, Smalling and Monreal with 20% and Cresswell, Sagna, Delany, Coleman, Wollscheid and Clyne each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 10 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Sterling, Arnautovic, Silva, Bolasie and Coutinho. Mahrez and Barkley were the most popular picks with 100% ownership followed by Ozil at 70%, DeBruyne at 60%, and Ayew at 20%.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of 5 picks among the top managers. Lukaku came in with 100% while Ighalo was the next popular pick as he received 90%. Vardy received 60% while Kane was selected by 20% and Giroud received 10%.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 13 were not many. They were Cech, Alderweirld, Mahrez, Ozil, Barkley, DeBruyne, Lukaku, Ighalo and Vardy as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.
Three players, Lukaku, Mahrez and Barkley had an ownership rate of 100%.
Other interesting facts:
* The average score for Gameweek 13 among the top 10 was 49.2 points which is 17.2 points above average for the week.
* There was less this week regarding countries as England came back on top representing 50% of the top 10. 20% of managers came from Scotland while the remaining here players represent Canada, Slovenia and Ireland.
* The average team value was £106.6 with £108.1 being the highest team value and £104 being the lowest value.
* 27 points separates 1st place from 10th.
So that’s about it as gameweek 16 nears to an end. I personally can’t wait to see how things shape-up when double game week’s finally come into play as I speculate that a lot of folks, including myself may finally take advantage of the chips. How many how you used? I personally, have not used one!
Best of luck in Gameweek 17.

Morning everyone and Happy Monday – if there is such a thing!
Thanks to Beka for Trends From the Top – an interesting yet always depressing read about how those who are doing great are doing it – and it always looks sooooo obvious after the event
Brilliant stuff Beka, much appreciated my friend.
I think we should ask Beka to look at the trends from the worst teams! She could just look at my team
We could be famous Kop!!
Great article and thanks Beka this gives better insight on what top scorers are upto
Choosing defenders will be headache this gw so who should I replace Kelly with?
Thinking of Dawson/Moreno, suggestions please
Morning Snookie,
I would think Ward for a straight swap could work or the West Brom angle you have mentioned – Dawson/Evans/Olsson. Ward and Olsson are pretty much the cheap options there if you prefer that route. Both teams have a decent run of fixtures.
Having banged on about Moreno last week, yesterday was the last straw for me and I sold Mignolet. One day Moreno will produce something going forward, probably away from Anfield I guess. Defensively Pool could be in more trouble if Lovren is ruled out for a while and Sakho remains out. Kolo time!!!!
Im starting I had dawson and he scored a goal when he was with me and Pulis is known for his staunch defence and yesterday too he sclred a goal, the second goal west brom conceded was unlucky so leaning towards him! Mignolet manages to make mistake every week and cs is gone but Moreno is cheap too but next week against Watford who are scoring good so basically won’t do good for me next week!
West Brom’s lack of cs is a worry, though on closer inspection most of the games they have conceded against was against the top teams.
Just read my comment again and seriously it’s hard to understand wtf I have written lmao
yeah I glazed over it and hoped you’d explain in your own time
@ConfusedBear, I didn’t realize we could start ourselves, thanks for letting us know, as I frankly trust myself more than any of my defenders other than Oxford as he is very contestant.
If it isn’t too much trouble can you please inform us on how you sired a goal? Because I have been needing to populate my team with some of those.
Thanks for the help.
Morning all this is a funny old game I’m thinking of bringing Sanchez back for GW 17 I think he is more explosive than Ozil , thoughts please.
Silvers, yes he’s more explosive but you can’t ignore Ozil’s new found consistency. I wouldn’t go selling Ozil yet, though I wouldn’t talk you out of getting Alexis also, maybe not for City at home this week coming but maybe when he’s had a game back, comes through it ok and has a decent run of fixtures over the Christmas period.
Morning Cookie yes wasn’t bringing him back this GW will keep an eye on him.
Ah sorry Silvers, thought you said you were thinking of him this week!
He did, he is drinking again. 😉
Weird that Barkley’s ownership is at 100% while Ozil is at 70%
because of price … imo
They must have Arsenal cover in mid I think and Ozil has giving assist consecutively from past I think 9-10 games so should be a must by now
Ok I need a def my thoughts are a WBA or WHU def leaning towards WBA who do I have Dawson or McAuley or save some cash on Olsson (is he nailed on) or Evans so injury prone ???
Silvers, Fancy Moreno/ Alder?
Silvers I am also in the same boat and will get Dawson as he seems to get an odd goal here and there from corners and he is a definite starter
Cheers Constantine & Snookie I like the Look of WBA fixtures for nk few wks , although I will have another look at The Pool & Spurs fixtures.
I’d go WBA, Silvers. I still have Myhill for WBA cover so thinking of Cresswell in this week for Kolarov. I’ve got too many high ownership players and Kolarov been dodgy recently so he’s gone, i think.
Cheers NIN who would you have, thinking Cook to Olsson but not sure he is nailed on then I could up grade Cart to anyone up to 5.4m
Not sure about Olsson myself mate, could go well but could be horrid if he gets dropped or injured. He’s prone to both! 4.8 is a good price for Evans but i favor McAuley / Dawson. There’s nothing between them really so either or.
Hello All, So, the bad times continue for me. A lot of value lying on the bench AGAIN.. KDB brought in a big one pointer. Brought in Silva and Stanislas in place of Bolasie and Willian. Currently on negative points for the transfers made.Today’s match doesn’t matter that much as I guess 80% of the teams might have either Mahrez/Vardy in their teams.
Still, attaching my team here. Should I hold the FT or you guys suggest otherwise?Dont want to get rid of KDB/Silva though. “Too much confusion, I can get no relief. No reason to get excited”. haha, what am I saying. I’ve lost it I guess.cheers all
Hi Constantine, nothing obvious to do there – not much we could of done with KDB. Stanislas is a great 5th mid. Man City vs Arsenal & Everton vs Leicester this week means you’ll have eight of your players covered in 2 games, but that happens sometimes and I wouldn’t sell any of your eight so maybe hope for the best and 2 transfers the week after could work out very well.
Your team looks really well balanced and would swap it with mine though I scored more, nothing to do atm save FT that’s it
Constantine agree with Cookie & Snookie team look set although this will be a tough GW for most as players playing each other in most teams.
Couldn’t thank anyone of you.thanks a lot cookie, silvers amd cookie..cheers.holding my transfer
