Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW16
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. Once again, the gameweek has not yet ended as Leicester and Chelsea have yet to play, but nonetheless it’s always interesting to take a peek at the current trends amongst this week’s leaders. It is interesting to note that sometimes, because of the weekly fluctuation of leaders, we will see variance in the top selected picks. This week however, while leaders changed, top selections remained quite constant. Let’s take a look.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 16?
This week, 50% of the top ten managers selected Lukaku who made managers quite happy as he brought in a healthy 18 points. Our other top managers selected DeBruyne (20% and 2 points), Ozil (10% and 12 points), Ighalo (10% and 14 points) and Kane (10% and 4 points).
Of the top 10, how many players do they have remaining in the Leicester/Chelsea match?
100% of the top 10 have Mahrez while 60% also have Vardy. There are no other players in their lineups.
What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?
* Two of the leaders have yet to deploy any of their chips. Three of the leaders have exhausted all of their chips.
* The longest “reign” of any top 10 manager has been 7 weeks while 2 of the top leaders are new to the top.
* All in all, most chips have been used by most leaders.
* The best performing finish of any of the leaders is a very unimpressive 39,890.
Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 16?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Butland or Hart and 10% had de Gea.
Defenders: This week we saw 14 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Alderweireld (80% and 1 point) was the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Dann and Kolarov had 40% ownership followed by Moreno, Koscielny, Bellerin, Smalling and Monreal with 20% and Cresswell, Sagna, Delany, Coleman, Wollscheid and Clyne each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 10 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Sterling, Arnautovic, Silva, Bolasie and Coutinho. Mahrez and Barkley were the most popular picks with 100% ownership followed by Ozil at 70%, DeBruyne at 60%, and Ayew at 20%.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of 5 picks among the top managers. Lukaku came in with 100% while Ighalo was the next popular pick as he received 90%. Vardy received 60% while Kane was selected by 20% and Giroud received 10%.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 13 were not many. They were Cech, Alderweirld, Mahrez, Ozil, Barkley, DeBruyne, Lukaku, Ighalo and Vardy as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.
Three players, Lukaku, Mahrez and Barkley had an ownership rate of 100%.
Other interesting facts:
* The average score for Gameweek 13 among the top 10 was 49.2 points which is 17.2 points above average for the week.
* There was less this week regarding countries as England came back on top representing 50% of the top 10. 20% of managers came from Scotland while the remaining here players represent Canada, Slovenia and Ireland.
* The average team value was £106.6 with £108.1 being the highest team value and £104 being the lowest value.
* 27 points separates 1st place from 10th.
So that’s about it as gameweek 16 nears to an end. I personally can’t wait to see how things shape-up when double game week’s finally come into play as I speculate that a lot of folks, including myself may finally take advantage of the chips. How many how you used? I personally, have not used one!
Best of luck in Gameweek 17.

Morning,
Thoughts on Ramsey?
hahaha Morning Mitro, considering an ealy transfer? That’s not like you mate!!
Can’t argue with his returns over two games. As a Gooner, think your opinion is more valid than most as to what happens when Alexis returns.
How do cookie – you know me mate I don’t like to mess about, brought Rambo in last night!!!
With coquelin and santi out I’m expecting to see Rambo to do well! Plus he’s nailed on to start most games.
Mitro, if you’ve already bought him it doesn’t really matter what we think of him 😉
True ……
I think I might get him after the man city game. He does get more involved when playing through the middle.
Hi Mitro, Ramsey is a very nice guy and the most productive player of my squad this GW with 11 marvellous points. I also have thoughts on Cazorla which include him being injured for a long spell. Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis, Walcott and that man Giroud is a great front 5 and second only to City perhaps, when with Kun. Can’t wait for next monday night.
Good draw for Arsenal. Now they can focus on that 4th place league finish
Oiiiii less of that…..
Also thanks to Bekah for the article. I seem to have a lot of those players and still can’t get over 40 pts… sights.
Answering to your question, I haven’t used any chips except the first half of the season wild card, which I played this precise GW15. The returns were not great (38 with Courtois – yes, him! – and Mahrez to play), but I’m happy with my team going forward.
I plan to use my chips accordingly to this rational, pending on actual DGW teams, etc:
– Bench Boost: DGW
– Triple Capo: when gut says so (hopefully also on a DGW)
– AOA: when the right time comes, which will probably be on a cold rainy Tuesday night in stoke. Either that, or when my defence is struggling and the 8 front men have decent fixtures.

Who at the start of the season would’ve figured that in a match between Leicester and Chelsea that players like Hazard and Costa would be the differentials, way ahead of Mahrez and Vardy. Tonight I’ll have Hazard (if only I kept Costa lol, Kane did a Cookie failure).
I see Arsenal will play Barca again. funny not?
Hey Raz how are we another average wk for me , Hazhard could do well tonight they have to start playing @ some point.
I hope Ars have all there big guns back for the Barca game you never know.
If Sanchez, Conquelin, Walcott and Ozil are fit than they definitely can reply to barca, there defence is definitely not as good as Bayern’s and with the pace can really shatter them! And also Cech’s record against Messi
Thanks Beka, superb article yet again. Must admit, though, i’m beginning to hate these people
