Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW33

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 14.06.12Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What have the leaders been up to and what will our leaders being doing as we edge towards the end of the season? Did any of the top 10 deploy a wildcard in an effort to stack their team for the upcoming week? The results may surprise you.

How are our current leaders going to approach GW 34?

While we knew last week that only a few of our leaders had a remaining wildcard, only one of those players still remains in the top ten. The player in the 7th position has played his wildcard with the presumed intent on playing his benchboost next week. Yet, unfortunately, this week has really played a toll on the points which he has accumulated as he is approximately 20 points off those leaders who chose to stick with players such as Alderweireld and Vardy. Based on our findings, it therefore appears that only 1 player could potentially stack their team with 15 players for DGW 34.

What was another interesting observation for GW33?

Knowing that many of our leaders already deployed their 2nd wildcard, I was curious to see if they were swapping out players to prepare for next week’s extravaganza and I personally found the stats to be quite interesting. The average number of DGW players for GW34 amongst the top 10 was only 7.1. Our current leader only has 4 of his squad playing 2 matches next week. (Ozil, Barkley, Lukaku and Aguero)

These findings actually make me quite nervous as I myself got rid of top players such as Alderweireld, Kane, Vardy, and Sigurdsson to stack my team for next week. Unfortunately for me, I am slightly stressing out as players such as Cech, Coutinho and Sagna did not even touch a ball this week. (Any advice here?)

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 33?

Goalkeepers: This week was rather interesting as our top managers selected 7 different goalkeepers. Courtois was the most popular pick coming in at 30% ownership while Gomes had 20% ownership and Hennessey, Robles, Hart, Schmeichel and Mignolet each came in with 10%.

Defenders: This week we saw a total of 13 different players. Alderweireld was the most popular pick as 7 of the 10 managers selected him. Bellerin and Fuchs came in at 60% ownership while Daniels had 40%. Huth had a 20% ownership rate while the remaining defenders all came in with 10% ownership: Dann, Mangala, Williams, Coleman, Walker, Clyne, Otamendi and Targett.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 11 different picks. 100% of managers selected Mahrez followed by Payet with 60%, Ozil with 50%, Sigurdsson and Barkley with 40%, Lennon with 30%, Alli, Iwobi and Firmino with 20% and Sanchez, Eriksen and Coutinho each with 10%.

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. 80% had Aguero while 60% had Kane, 50% had Lukaku and Vardy, and 10% had Defoe.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Game-week 33 were Alderweireld, Bellerin, Fuchs, Alli, Payet, Mahrez, Ozil, Vardy, Kane, Lukaku and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:

* The average score for Game-week 33 among the top 10 thus far is 63.5 points which is 17.5 points above average for the week.

* The average team/club value was 109.6 with 111.0 being the most expensive team and 104.4 being the cheapest team.

* Most of the leaders have deployed all their chips.

* England represented only 20% of the leader board with the other countries being the following: Ireland (currently in the lead), Sweden, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Wales, Australia, Norway and Macedonia (new to the list).

* Wombats, who has been in the top 10 for 20 weeks is currently in 5th.

Hope this was useful!

Best of luck in Gameweek 34!

And for those who used your wildcard this week with the hopes and aspirations of blowing your challengers away with a DGW squad of 15 players…good luck!

I was looking forward to this article but I do wonder what the trends tell us sometimes.

For example, are the people at the top selecting Alderweireld because they think it’s better than going for DGWers. Or are the people that selected Alderweireld at the top because he had a good week.

I think what I’m saying is that it’s so fluid at the top that the people in the top 10 will almost certainly have had a good week.

It has been a random season. There are many that started well , have stayed towards the top and the rest have been playing catch up.
