Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW33
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What have the leaders been up to and what will our leaders being doing as we edge towards the end of the season? Did any of the top 10 deploy a wildcard in an effort to stack their team for the upcoming week? The results may surprise you.
How are our current leaders going to approach GW 34?
While we knew last week that only a few of our leaders had a remaining wildcard, only one of those players still remains in the top ten. The player in the 7th position has played his wildcard with the presumed intent on playing his benchboost next week. Yet, unfortunately, this week has really played a toll on the points which he has accumulated as he is approximately 20 points off those leaders who chose to stick with players such as Alderweireld and Vardy. Based on our findings, it therefore appears that only 1 player could potentially stack their team with 15 players for DGW 34.

What was another interesting observation for GW33?
Knowing that many of our leaders already deployed their 2nd wildcard, I was curious to see if they were swapping out players to prepare for next week’s extravaganza and I personally found the stats to be quite interesting. The average number of DGW players for GW34 amongst the top 10 was only 7.1. Our current leader only has 4 of his squad playing 2 matches next week. (Ozil, Barkley, Lukaku and Aguero)
These findings actually make me quite nervous as I myself got rid of top players such as Alderweireld, Kane, Vardy, and Sigurdsson to stack my team for next week. Unfortunately for me, I am slightly stressing out as players such as Cech, Coutinho and Sagna did not even touch a ball this week. (Any advice here?)

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 33?
Goalkeepers: This week was rather interesting as our top managers selected 7 different goalkeepers. Courtois was the most popular pick coming in at 30% ownership while Gomes had 20% ownership and Hennessey, Robles, Hart, Schmeichel and Mignolet each came in with 10%.
Defenders: This week we saw a total of 13 different players. Alderweireld was the most popular pick as 7 of the 10 managers selected him. Bellerin and Fuchs came in at 60% ownership while Daniels had 40%. Huth had a 20% ownership rate while the remaining defenders all came in with 10% ownership: Dann, Mangala, Williams, Coleman, Walker, Clyne, Otamendi and Targett.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 11 different picks. 100% of managers selected Mahrez followed by Payet with 60%, Ozil with 50%, Sigurdsson and Barkley with 40%, Lennon with 30%, Alli, Iwobi and Firmino with 20% and Sanchez, Eriksen and Coutinho each with 10%.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. 80% had Aguero while 60% had Kane, 50% had Lukaku and Vardy, and 10% had Defoe.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Game-week 33 were Alderweireld, Bellerin, Fuchs, Alli, Payet, Mahrez, Ozil, Vardy, Kane, Lukaku and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
* The average score for Game-week 33 among the top 10 thus far is 63.5 points which is 17.5 points above average for the week.
* The average team/club value was 109.6 with 111.0 being the most expensive team and 104.4 being the cheapest team.
* Most of the leaders have deployed all their chips.
* England represented only 20% of the leader board with the other countries being the following: Ireland (currently in the lead), Sweden, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Wales, Australia, Norway and Macedonia (new to the list).
* Wombats, who has been in the top 10 for 20 weeks is currently in 5th.
Hope this was useful!
Best of luck in Gameweek 34!
And for those who used your wildcard this week with the hopes and aspirations of blowing your challengers away with a DGW squad of 15 players…good luck!

Things could change with the games over the next few days but what do you think of my GW34/GW35 set up?
Looks really well set up,not sure if Origi keeps starting but worth the gamble I guess.Should see some big points the next couple of weeks.I’m extremely jealous !!
Yeah he’s a punt. If it works and he starts v Newcastle it could work really well.
Other options are a hit to get someone reliable or other cheap punts. Rashford was my initial plan but he’s more of a gamble as well now.
Many thanks Beka, great little analysis and insight as always. Be very interesting to see who’s still in there next week if some of those below have played their WC and then BB. Could they have got away it after this week’s success of not doing / being able to?
What do these guys know week-in week-out that we don’t? You don’t get consistently lucky over 38 GWs. Kudos to them, and a big thank you to Beka for this (frankly depressing) article So this year is anybody’s fantasy league between the top 10? Cheers
I imagine the MLS crew say the same about some of us lot in theirs and the answer is nothing! Certainly in my case far, far less. Maybe ignorance really is bliss sometimes!
haha @innittowinit i guess, but my paranoia stretches to secret leagues and cults of coaches trainers and ground staff who know what’s happening where at all times. it can get pretty frustrating when guys pick winner after winner everytime. anyway, good luck for the rest of the season and hope you’re winning a few of them.
Beka
This article continues to fascinate me. Thanks for collating for us.
I think one thing which is standing out to me, and I kind of knew this already, is that people in general (and I include myself in this in the past) are a bit blinkered by double game weeks. Whether you loaded Everton and Palace this week or loaded up ahead of next week, taking good players out just because they didn’t play twice is always risky.
Captain Hindsight would agree with me I’m sure
Once again, thanks beka. Be interesting to see how the Top 10 looks after next week. I can’t wait.
1FT. Nothing in the coffers.
Thinking of martial in for Kane or Lukaku.
Just for fun
De gea. Darlow.
Azpil. Bellerin. Simpson. Kosc. Sakho.
Sanchez. Payet. Coutinho. Lennon. Lanzini
Kane. Kun. Lukaku.
What do you think?
Thanks!
Hi James, I’m considering Luk to Origi. But Martial could work well. Will wait until after all the midweek matches though so not even logging in until Friday!
Hey guys, Is Milner worth a punt? I’m thinking of getting him for Mahrez instead of Coutinho. I have a feeling he might get more game time and his stats look good recently. Thanks as always. The advice here is invaluable. Ive just taken the lead in my ml after chasing all season.
