Fantasy Premier League Ramblings 2018/19

Sometimes I have thoughts and on occasion I am allowed to express them on here. Not sure where this article is headed, but let us just type away and see what comes of it.

There has been some mention of Keita on the site recently and he has started to appear on some of the teams managers have been posting. I have been particularly interested in him and have been trying to monitor the commentary on top of whatever I can watch of him. His previous numbers tend to reveal that 10 goals and 10 assists is not a huge ask for this season, assuming he gets between 2800-3000 minutes. In fact, an uptick on assists is very possible, since when we look at his previous assist tallies we are not looking at FPL assists, which are a bit different.

On paper, it feels like he could be a bonus point magnet, but it is hard work winning them bonus points with the kind of players he will have alongside him. So he can have many a standout game and fall short in bonus points because the front three combined for four goals. Plus, there is also yellow cards. Keita doesn’t mind picking one up which will also cut into his chances at bonus points. Despite those things though, he is still likely to get his fair share. He should make a key pass or two per game and on this team, it could be more. Plus if he carries on like he did in the Bundesliga he will be elite at completing dribbles which the BPS system loves. Add his capacity for recovering balls and if he does get about 10 and 10 on goals and assists, he should be near 20 bonus points for the season.

My biggest reservation about having Keita is not his price (that’s perfect) it is that he takes up a LFC spot and when there is a huge interest in having a defender of theirs and possibly Salah and Firmino, tough decisions have to be made. There feels like there is similar value and similarly priced players, where we wouldn’t have to take a coveted LFC player spot up with Keita. Ramsey and Mkhi, Pogba and Lingard, Groß and some a bit cheaper that could also pan out. So why tie up the spot when we could just go somewhere else for similar results?

I am asking you! Wait…you are waiting on me to answer that?

The thing is, do any of us know, I am sure we all have an opinion, but there is a lot of guesswork to this. Here is my guess, Keita will outperform just about everyone in his price bracket, which we will call the 6-8 million bracket. I do think Pogba will finally score well in FPL, but that’s a topic for a different day. So that means that if I set up my team right this minute, he be in. Who would I sacrifice? Probably my LFC defender, if I decide I want Firmino from the start. Yeah, Salah is definitely in, he is the most terrifying player since Suarez to watch play when you don’t own. Well that went a bit long, I wanted to write a paragraph on Keita and move on.

So instead of making some long winded opinions on other topics like I just did with Naby, let me offer some quick takes. Some of these will be familiar to people who frequent the board if you have seen any of my comments over the last couple of days.

– Zaha creates a lot of penalties for his team, second only to Sterling last season. Milivojevic is unlikely to replicate the goals from last season anyway, but if Zaha leaves there is no chance he will.

– City play the three newly promoted teams and the three promoted teams from last season right after Arsenal. So make sure you have some nice City coverage for GW’s 2-7 or it will likely lead to lots of misery.

– I did a set piece takers list HERE so don’t forget to check that out. Be aware though, don’t get too excited about who takes direct free kicks for a team. There was only 17 goals scored from said shots last season and two of those were scored by Coutinho. Having said that, every little bit helps and I still prefer whoever I own to be on them if possible.

– #DaveSaves I get it, set and forget. There is a lot of nice in not having to ever worry about that position, no transfers, no hits. I will say one thing, that might be considered negative. What is more likely, that he has another FPL season of 172 points or that he returns closer to what he averaged (136 by the way) the previous four seasons?

– I was going to make a point or two about Ralls from Cardiff, but that Cookie wrote an article on it, so just go check that out. HERE > Cookie loves Cardiff

– Besides Azpilicueta and maybe Alonso, there seems to be little to no interest in Chelsea on RMTs. However, I would advise to keep a closer eye on them. In particular if Hazard and Willian leave, there could be some real bargains in there. Pedro scored in their first game under Sarri in a 1-0 win and Fabregas was sitting higher then we have been accustomed to, in Cesc’s case he might get decent minutes even if the Belgian and Brazilian stay.

Great stuff that Mito, many thanks. I do enjoy it when you just set off to write with no particular direction in mind!

Zaha ‘creates’ a lot of pens is certainly one way of putting it!

Best two 4.5m rotating GK ????

      Loud Atlas says:

At first glance Bournemouth and West Ham rotate quite well but things drift off a little after GW8. I’m not rotating keepers for the first time in years – there isn’t a nice clear rotation pattern that looks appetising to warrant the grief of rotating them.

Pick DDG/Ederson and keep them there.

    Cheers Mito,

    Great article. Keita sounds interesting.
There are so many decent options in midfield this season that 352 looks like an option.

    Ramble on good man!

Let he who dares stop this man rambling pay the price of a thousand lashes or be forced to buy a United attacker.

Little disappointed you didn’t mention the leaving from the league of Dusan Tadic.

    I’m doubly hurt now.

Guys I need help.. The more drafts I make – more lost I am.. Do we know any city def for 5,5 that is actually nailed? What do you about having a fabianski as a permanent goalie? Any suggestions regarding 4m def that has a chance to play?

    • 11.1
      inittowinit says:

Not convinced on Fab as a permanent. If I was having a permanent it’d be from the top 4 / 5. Can’t really help with the other two as I haven’t looked properly myself yet! I’m sure others will be more ahead of that curve and may be able to help better.

      @Szatan

It looks slightly top heavy to me.
At the mo I prefer Mendy as a City defender
I don’t think Bednarek will play much.

It will be a bonus if there is a 4.0m defnder who is nailed on. I wouldn’t count on it

    • 11.3

      Szatan

Ederson is your City coverage at 5.5M.

You could have a look at Coleman of Everton at 5.5M in place of Danilo.

      No definite 4.0M as yet.

You’re not far away from a really decent squad there.

    • 11.4

      Wan-bis from Palace
      Peltier from Cardiff
      Bennett from Wolves

Seem to have the best shots. Guy from Palace would be my pick for now, could change, but for now he looks like he will start.

As far as City goes, I would think Walker is the most nailed besides Ederson. The rest could be a crap shoot, although Mendy might play a lot also. So for 5.5, no actual defenders for now. Only Ederson.

      Red Robbo says:

Wouldn’t like to guess on who’s nailed at that price.

Might have Fab myself. Just checked and De Gea has only averaged 8 points per season more than him in the last 4 years, which is pretty impressive value (the best value player in FPL last season according to the stats)

Wan-Bissaka got some decent game time toward the end of last season so might be worth the punt.

      • szatan says:

Well that is the other option with suggestions you guys made.. Elders for fab and cedric for 4,5 that is left.. Still think that fab can be gold with all the save bonuses.. Best 5,5 def alternative in your opinion? Van aanholt? What do you think about Douglas guy from wolves? He seems nailed right?

        • Horse says:

Cedric played for Portugal in the WC and may not play GW1. You may not have enough defenders on the pitch first GW which wouldn’t be a great start.

Also if you have Ederson play a 4.0 goalie with him.

        • Horse says:

Sorry Speroni is 4.0m. My bad!

      • szatan says:

Yep 4.0.. Its crazy how much extra 0,5mil can give you.. Sokratis should be nailed for arsenal and they are not so bad at the back I suppose

Too much for a player who had a good few games (I think!).

      inittowinit says:

Defo too much money. But could still be an interesting signing for both club and us. His best games were under Silva at least, so there may be something in that. Apparently he hadn’t stopped playing for about 3 years straight too due to summer comps etc so perhaps he did just inevitably burn out.

      • Evening Init

Blunts Lookman though one would guess?

        • inittowinit says:

Probably. We don’t even know if he’s staying yet though. Assuming he does and that Siggy starts as the 10 in the centre of the 3 behind then you’d have to assume Wally and Richarlson take up the wide spots for now in which case he ain’t playing. And that’s not to mention Mirralas who seems to be get a look in again now. And of course Bolasie but he’s probably offski. Any of this sound familiar to last years pre-season?! Someone needs to tell the owners that you are allowed to buy players who don’t play in the three behind smile

        • AT says:

Any idea on your centre-backs, Init? Holgate seems to be getting a lot of love from fans on twitter. At least over Keane! Williams still in the mix p

        • inittowinit says:

Can’t see Williams staying. Looked like he’d well and truly gone last season. It’ll be Keane alongside either Jags or Holgate I’d imagine. Hope it’s Holgate as he looked class last season up until his little Anfield incident and then disappeared a bit after that. Can’t remember now if that may have coincided with an injury. They may have just decided to take him out of the limelight a bit too.

        • MattX says:

Cheers for that Init. I’m interested in an Everton defender and Coleman is top pick but struggling to fit him in so far. Holgate was great when be played last year

        • Luckily Rooney is gone and Klaasen to follow I guess? See Werder have come for him.

      • DMC says:

Great signing init. Good for your team and for FPL. Old Marco loves a 4-3-3 with wide men upfront , leaning to big wins. That does mean shipping goals too though so I’d avoid Everton defense.

        • inittowinit says:

Never actually considered that he may change the formation! Looks like he’s played a mixture of that and also the old 4-2-3-1 I referred to but mainly 4-3-3 thus far. Good spot.
