Fantasy Premier League Ramblings 2018/19
Sometimes I have thoughts and on occasion I am allowed to express them on here. Not sure where this article is headed, but let us just type away and see what comes of it.
There has been some mention of Keita on the site recently and he has started to appear on some of the teams managers have been posting. I have been particularly interested in him and have been trying to monitor the commentary on top of whatever I can watch of him. His previous numbers tend to reveal that 10 goals and 10 assists is not a huge ask for this season, assuming he gets between 2800-3000 minutes. In fact, an uptick on assists is very possible, since when we look at his previous assist tallies we are not looking at FPL assists, which are a bit different.
On paper, it feels like he could be a bonus point magnet, but it is hard work winning them bonus points with the kind of players he will have alongside him. So he can have many a standout game and fall short in bonus points because the front three combined for four goals. Plus, there is also yellow cards. Keita doesn’t mind picking one up which will also cut into his chances at bonus points. Despite those things though, he is still likely to get his fair share. He should make a key pass or two per game and on this team, it could be more. Plus if he carries on like he did in the Bundesliga he will be elite at completing dribbles which the BPS system loves. Add his capacity for recovering balls and if he does get about 10 and 10 on goals and assists, he should be near 20 bonus points for the season.
My biggest reservation about having Keita is not his price (that’s perfect) it is that he takes up a LFC spot and when there is a huge interest in having a defender of theirs and possibly Salah and Firmino, tough decisions have to be made. There feels like there is similar value and similarly priced players, where we wouldn’t have to take a coveted LFC player spot up with Keita. Ramsey and Mkhi, Pogba and Lingard, Groß and some a bit cheaper that could also pan out. So why tie up the spot when we could just go somewhere else for similar results?
I am asking you! Wait…you are waiting on me to answer that?
The thing is, do any of us know, I am sure we all have an opinion, but there is a lot of guesswork to this. Here is my guess, Keita will outperform just about everyone in his price bracket, which we will call the 6-8 million bracket. I do think Pogba will finally score well in FPL, but that’s a topic for a different day. So that means that if I set up my team right this minute, he be in. Who would I sacrifice? Probably my LFC defender, if I decide I want Firmino from the start. Yeah, Salah is definitely in, he is the most terrifying player since Suarez to watch play when you don’t own. Well that went a bit long, I wanted to write a paragraph on Keita and move on.
So instead of making some long winded opinions on other topics like I just did with Naby, let me offer some quick takes. Some of these will be familiar to people who frequent the board if you have seen any of my comments over the last couple of days.
– Zaha creates a lot of penalties for his team, second only to Sterling last season. Milivojevic is unlikely to replicate the goals from last season anyway, but if Zaha leaves there is no chance he will.
– City play the three newly promoted teams and the three promoted teams from last season right after Arsenal. So make sure you have some nice City coverage for GW’s 2-7 or it will likely lead to lots of misery.
– I did a set piece takers list HERE so don’t forget to check that out. Be aware though, don’t get too excited about who takes direct free kicks for a team. There was only 17 goals scored from said shots last season and two of those were scored by Coutinho. Having said that, every little bit helps and I still prefer whoever I own to be on them if possible.
– #DaveSaves I get it, set and forget. There is a lot of nice in not having to ever worry about that position, no transfers, no hits. I will say one thing, that might be considered negative. What is more likely, that he has another FPL season of 172 points or that he returns closer to what he averaged (136 by the way) the previous four seasons?
– I was going to make a point or two about Ralls from Cardiff, but that Cookie wrote an article on it, so just go check that out. HERE > Cookie loves Cardiff
– Besides Azpilicueta and maybe Alonso, there seems to be little to no interest in Chelsea on RMTs. However, I would advise to keep a closer eye on them. In particular if Hazard and Willian leave, there could be some real bargains in there. Pedro scored in their first game under Sarri in a 1-0 win and Fabregas was sitting higher then we have been accustomed to, in Cesc’s case he might get decent minutes even if the Belgian and Brazilian stay.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Usually we run an article and ask people to get involved and cover the friendlies with any info they can gather. And it’s usually fun but in all honesty it’s usually also a bit messy and difficult to refer back to. This season we have one link that you will need need for all such info, courtesy of Mito –
Here you will find all the pre-season info you could ever wish for in one place – line-ups, scorers, assists, match info, sarcastic comments….

FIXTURE TRACKER LINK
It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.
And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.
So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!
The League Codes for FF247 for the 2018/19 season are as follows –
Some here may remember me from the ‘other site’ but this year I want to tone down my very trigger happy transfer finger!
My current team that I set-up a few weeks ago.
Yes Terminators, how are you mate?
Ok thanks.
Personally I wouldn’t start the season with Kane. He’s been at the World Cup always starts August badly and I would just monitor him for a few GWks.
I know and I am a little unsure but I missed out on him last season, I had him then dropped him and when he took off scoring I didn’t have the funds to get him back.
I don’t fancy Kun or Hazard and I would rather have Salah than Firminio as I don’t want both.
Hey Terminator Kane Lingard & Maguire might not start first game
AA might not start keep eye pre season & wouldn’t have two Wolves att players sorry mate bit brutal that but that’s me
Overhaul all your players are good but WC throws things into doubt
Init, or amy other Everton fan, you think Holgate has a chance of starting?
I’d love Holgate at 4.5. Surely they sign a CB though
Discussed it a fair bit here – https://fantasyfootball247.co.uk/fantasy-premier-league-ramblings-2018-19/comment-page-2/#comment-484518
As Antt said this morning though we are still being linked with Mina. I’d love to think that’d mean Mina alongside Holgate but depends what Silva thinks of Keane. It’s up in the air, basically.
Yeah Williams will probably go if he wants to play. Jags is pretty old now so Holgate stands a chance
Funes Mori too…..
Let the best one go. Fools!
Yeah he was shaping up quite nicely after a bit of a shaky start, up until that injury. I’d have certainly kept him over Williams and Jags.
Evening everyone. How are we all? Is it just me or is this transfer window crazy? How are these promoted sides getting such world class players? Joao Moutinho to Wolves, Seri and Schurrle to Fulham!! Brilliant transfers for them. Interested in Schurrle now hope he comes in at 6.5 or less
Yeah, what’s next? Götze to Cardiff?!? :woot:
That would be amazing! I read Wolves are trying to sign Pepe so that could be another one!
Wolves have that Portuguese connection which clearly makes it easier to sign Portuguese players! I believe Moutinho signed because of that too, to play with Neves or something… In that regard, I guess Pepe could be doable for them…
Wolves would definitely be a force to be reckoned with this season
Yep. Another Portuguese player wouldn’t surprise me. Mendes FC.
Yep Mendes connection there. He did in Benfica, then Valencia, now Wolves.
Simply cash, Matt.
These newly promoted teams can probably beat everyone else in Europe aside from Barca, Real, Bayern, And Juventus in wages.
Yeah that’s true actually. It’s good that the quality of the league is getting better but it’s sad it has to happen thanks to so much money flooding the league.
Shirley has scored 3 goals over the past 2 seasons!!
Evening all,
BURNLEY…. what’s everyone’s thoughts? I’m always interested in the teams that have to start their season a little early due to Europa qualifying. Purely anecdotal, but it feels like they should start their league seasons well because of that extra match sharpness as others take 3 or 4 weeks to really get up to speed. Only Pope and Gudmundsson were at the WC and they weren’t too busy!
Their fixtures are pretty decent in the 1st 8 GW’s ; Sth (A), Wat (H), Ful (A), Utd (H), Wol (A), Bmth (H), Card (A), Hudd (H).
Will Sean rotate – I doubt it very much. Think he’ll play best side possible in Europa qualifiers, but if into the Group Stage he knows his bread and butter will be the Premiership.
Does that offer some value for Barnes, Wood, defence etc?
Cheers
Hey Harry. I’m avoiding Burnley because if they do beat Aberdeen then they will play either side if GW1 I believe so I think rotation will be strife. Only time will tell how Burnley chose between PL and EL.
The Europa league just about casts enough doubt over them, at least for me, so that I’d steer clear… Burnley defs were amazing last season at 4.5m keeping 12 clean sheets but this season is a new season and I bet they will keep fewer cleanies this season…. Brighton, West Ham, Everton, and Huddersfield all kept 10 cleanies last season and their defs are 4.5m (well not everton), so they offer better value for me I think, and they don’t have Europa League to deal with…
Barnes, Wood could be decent punts though!
Palace, Leicester, Watford kept 9 cleanies last season…. Palace defenders at 4.5m with great fixtures too!
Thanks guys, interesting you have these stats to hand on clean sheets etc. Can I ask where you’re getting that from?
Harry, I use this one, ZL may have his own prefered one though, just use the filters they offer –
http://www.soccerstats.com/latest.asp?league=england
I just used the official Premier League website, loads of useful stats there too!
https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/clean_sheet?se=79
Superb, thank Init.
I’m keen on Wood for Burnley – think he offers good value, struggled a little with injury last year but he has best Points Per Match score in that sort of price bracket (excl Zaha and Arnie, but they were mids last year and effectively OOP).
Dyche said yesterday, I think, that Heaton is Cpt…
Thanks guys, interesting you have these stats to hand on clean sheets etc. Can I ask where you’re getting that from?
Who would people have as a £4m GK I have Fabianski as my main GK.
It don’t really matter as none of the 4 million keepers will play. Pick one from a team who’s first choice keeper has a chance of being dropped
who is that likely to be though?
If you’re going with Fabianski and need another you’re probably best getting his actual back-up. Assuming he’s not more expensive!
Either Speroni or Boruc me thinks, like the vast majority probably think too as they have the highest ownership of all the 4.0m goalies… Hennessey at Palace and Begovic at Bournemouth might get dropped, the others I see very little chance of that happening….
Adrian probably Fabianski’s back-up but he’s 4.5m…
One with low ownership so there’s no risk of a price fall. Someone like Stekelenburg.
Eg Speroni is quite highly owned at the moment; his price may drop once people realise he’s a non-starter.
However I did have a mini-debate with someone the other night who thought the opposite, but nothing was agreed and it petered out.
It depends on the price algorithm(s) they have for this season, could be either way, so no one knows for sure, but I’d say a price drop is more likely with a high ownership player in this case, but who knows really… A 0.1m drop in price after a few weeks/months (can’t see it happening very soon) is no big deal imo though…
I’ve gone for the previously mentioned Stekelenburg, though I have Ederson at the moment.
