And on the seventh day He rested. Well the Lord may have done, but we still have work to do and the World Cup waits for no-one. So we bat on and what a day it could be – for Spain, the reigning World Champions, will likely see their Brazilian adventure cut short today if they lose to Chile at the Maracana – how likely in all reality is that I wonder? Well, we shall see tonight at 8pm UK time. Of course, they will likely just do enough, sneak through the group and progress in the tournament, but they will have to improve on their inept display last week vs the Dutch.

Talking of the Dutchies, they kick off our day when they take on the Aussies at 5pm. They’ll be sighs, shrugs and cries of “ZOMG” if they fail to win this one and with RvP & Robben looking in such scintillating form on Friday, there won’t be many bar the odd convict betting against them.

Our day is completed at my bed time as Cameroon and Croatia meet in Manaus – you know the place, it’s where England lost to Italy and is described as being in the jungle – jeez, I’ve seen bigger looking jungles in Basic Instinct. You know the scene…. STOP THIS. NOW. (editors cut).

Well good luck, hope your players perform, careful on those formations now.

    Well done to all those still in Pottys comp, and to all that have survived gwk 1!!!!

    Thought it might be interesting to have a quick update from everyone re how its gone so far with the ZX Spectrum powered MaccyD’s site….

    I’ll kick us off:

    My teams best performer: Cuadrado 14 pts
    Captains armband finished on: Cuadrado
    Biggest disappointment in squad so far: Di Maria
    Best performance from a cheapie / player i’d never heard of: Daley Blind

    • Hey chins, about to go to bed myself. This game isn’t too bad once they got going. Although they don’t seem to be subtracting points from defenders for more than 2 goals scored. Anyway…

      My teams best performer: Rodriguez/Neymar, 14 points
      Captains armband finished on: Rodriguez
      Biggest disappointment in squad so far: in the 11 that finished, then Di Maria. Overall, probably Dzeko. Measly 3 points from him.
      Best performance from a cheapie / player i’d never heard of: Blind, but Bentaleb didn’t do too badly for only costing 1 or 1.5m.

      Squad Selection Strategy: All players should be starters, although i ended up with two non starters, Dauda, the Ghana GK and Durm, the German defender.

      • Not sure how cheap Yepes was but I’d certainly never heard of him!

        • Centre-back for Colombia. He is also the oldest starting player in the world cup.

      • Technically, Lukaku isnt a disappointment.

        He is already a famous troll on FPL, and i think he was a popular “Red Risky” choice on here. laugh

        He was completely anonnomous in that game. Reckon he’ll even start next match given how the subs changed the game?

    Is everyone playing that one? If so how you getting on?

    I’m doing slightly better in that one, I think!

    • Morning Shadow I’m playing the Mirror and I’m on 64 in that one.

    • I think i wont play Mirror. Seems boring compared to McD, and also McD takes up a lot of time.

      Anyway, got 93 points in first round in Mirror.

      • Decent scores, I got 70 odd.

        Time to get rid of my Brazil two.

        • What is the transfer policy there mate? I have benched the brazilians and went for 4-4-2 in Mirror for second round.

        • No idea actually, just assumed i’d be getting rid. I suppose benching them might be a decent shout since they’ll most likely get through to the next round,

        • The B it’s 3 subs before their second round starts which is the first game today. I’ve ditched my 3 Brazil nuts and bought Muller, Benzema and someone else who I forget…

        • I brought in Robben, which was silly, because Mirror does not give points like McD. DAMN IT!
          A German DEF too. Dont know who else to bring.

  3. Hi guys quick question, can I change my captain to anyone that hasnt played as many times as I want? Thought being its always better to captain someone playing early, then keep changing him until someone performs or you run out of players. That make sense? Or can you just change once?

    • As far as i understand, it’s as many times as you like.

    • As many times as you like. Start with a Brazilian and end up with Lukaku at your leisure! 😉
      I like this mini game of stick or twist on the captaincy. Brings out the gambler in me. :turtle:

  4. Has anyones ML’s updated yet on the McDs game?
    I looked this morning and they still hadn’t updated.

        Im not in any of ML’s on here, it was more of a general query as i’m in a ML with mates and it hasn’t been updated nor can i see my rivals teams, which i always like a nose

    Points after gwk 1: 97 (but Sergio Ramos still has no minus points)
    Squad selection strategy: Concentrate on decent teams in easier groups (3 France, 3 Argy, 3 Belgium) then fill with cheapies (3 Iran, 3 Algeria, 3 Honduras), 1 each Germany, Spain, Brazil, Russia, Ivory Coast
    My team’s best performer: Neymar & Aurier (14 pts each)
    Captain’s armband started and stayed on: Neymar
    Biggest disappointment in squad so far: All the Argies (Aguero, Di Maria & Maxi), Vermaelen, Kokorin
    Best performance from a cheapie / player I’d never heard of: Aurier

    • Substitution cock ups & should haves :
      swapped Haliche for Vermaelen once teams were announced (was at work sad ), dropped 4
      swapped out Di Maria for Bentaleb, dropped 2
      left Aguero in, as his 3 was better than Kokorin’s 1, dropped 2
