FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX
Oh b*llocks, is it?!
Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX. No, this isn’t an April Fools Day joke, we are actually publishing a Site Team article! Why? Well, because we meant to do one two weeks ago, and then again last week also, but we didn’t, for reasons which we shall expand on later. Perhaps also it is because we are a bit bored, and simply not used to having a break. But also it is to remind you of a few key FPL related things, which may have slipped your mind, understandably.
We shall however begin with an update of our GW29 performance, at least for some semblence of normality, if nothing else. Looking back at it, into what seems like a lifetime ago now, we evidently got a bit shafted with the DGW postponment having brought in Saka and Aubameyang (as captain) specifically for it, and having held onto KDB too. We’ll spare you the horror story of the rest but other than Salah getting a goal we didn’t have a single other player score above 3 points. And we had some good players, with decent fixtures. When your luck is out and all that… It looks like it meant quite a fall in the rankings too, in fact we managed to double our rank from about 82k to 164,492nd.
Onto the two article titles then..
GWX
No, this wasn’t a typo. It’s more because we have no idea when the season will restart, of course, but also less of an idea how. The fact that FPL Towers decided that we could keep making transfers throughout this ‘hiatus’ seemed to be because they presumed it would restart at a later GW. Which now looks less than likely. What is perhaps now more probable is that (if anything) there will be some sort of crammed in mini-tournament style period of about 6 weeks where they will attempt to finish the season. Re-starting at the GW30 cut-off seems the most likely scenario. How FPL deals with that is another matter, given their above stance. Will they simply reset us and ask us to forget all the interim transfers? Anything is possible. But for now we have been asked to crack on regardless, and so we have…
‘Oh, bollocks’, etc
This is a reference to our lack of a recent article. The reality is that we did intend to do one prior to GW31 and we did indeed have a meeting to discuss our phantomtransfers. Only for someone to point out in the midst of said meeting that the deadline had already passed as it was a Friday night one, and not as we all assumed a normal Saturday one! So that was one transfer down the drain. Not that we feel this will matter particularly, as it looks like we will have more than we can possibly use before proceedings get back under way.
And so we sat down in the middle of last week for another meeting… only to discover half way through that one that it was indeed an International Break, as such, and that there was no planned deadline for another week! Pay more attention, we must. Reinstante the Countdown Timer, we have…
Our GW32 Transfer(s)
Crack on regardles, we do. And we have formulated something of a mini-plan. So we thought we would share this with you, for a lack of anything else to actually say at this moment in time!
Bruno Fernandes seems to be our main missing jigsaw piece right now and so we have decided to prioritise him, along with a whole other raft of minor surgeries which we hope shall put our squad in better shape, should this be required as and when To accommodate Bruno this week we have decided to do away with our double Liverpool defence, an idea that was beginning to be in vogue around about GW29…
Beyond this we are looking at something like Saka to Mount and possibly Ings to DCL, but we shall see.
To confirm then we have SOLD Andy Robertson & James Maddison and BOUGHT Aaron Wan-Bissaka & Bruno Fernandes
Captain – Boris Johnson
Our GWX team in full…

The word is that La Liga will start June 20 and finish July 26. What will happen with PL :unknw:
Think it depends how it goes in Germany. There seems to be some sort of problem with neutral grounds here as well. But guessing plan is something fairly similar
Yep, the neutral stadium proposal needs 14 out of the 20 clubs to vote in favour in order to restart on June the 12th.
The thing is, nobody knows what might happen by then but we might have a clue on Sunday evening when Bojo is supposed to lay out the exit plan
Hi Smash and Ivan! Hope you are both well.
Keeping fingers crossed. I see the Bundesliga start playing May 16!
Hi bees. Yes, we’ll get there eventually. Keep safe for now.
I’ve gone ‘old school’ this lockdown and gone back in time to read autobiographies of my growing up years sporting heroes or at least sporting personalities.
As a cricketing loving Essex boy I’ve enjoyed Derek Pringle’s book and am 80% through ‘Gooch’. Love Goochie.
I’ve now got Bryan Robson & Jimmy White on order. I’m tempted with Ray Parlour also, fancy that may be quite entertaining.
What have you all been up to?
Working through the apocalypse and planning for super game week 38 when all matches will be rescheduled :scratch_one-s_head:
It’s looking likely we’ll have GW 39, 40, 41….
FPL have posted that they will make an announcement later on games played after 17 May
Drinking….
On which note I’m lead to believe that Ray’s is a hoot.
Currently sat in the front garden doing the VE Day Picnic thing…
Currently mired down in a bitter and unforgiving war of total annihilation with the garden dandelions. Using a weeder. Digging them out. May have to employ a flamethrower. Or a creeping barrage. A surprise night attack. Destroy the entire lawn to save the lawn.
I keep thinking I’m winning but if I turn my back for more than 30 seconds more seem to appear. It’s like trying to hold the Red Army back. Wave after wave keep coming at me.
Dandelions are beautiful, they pop up in May, provide us with heavenly yellow fields, and then fade out as fast as they came about…. Only a madman would want to fight them, really, they even attract bumblebees and make the world a better place! Here’s to dandelions!! :drinks:
You know me so well, Zed.
The garden is as insect-friendly as it could possibly be. It’s a paradise of buzzing. We allow nettles. There is a sector deliberately left be, where hedgehogs live (and thrive). Birds nest in a large ash tree that has miraculously avoided ash die-back. Most of the lawn has been turned into vegetable or flower beds. What remains of the lawn – and I’ve always seen the lawn as an overrated idea – is full of bee-friendly clover, buttercups – it’s practically a meadow. I am merely culling the dandelions so the almost perfect equilibrium is restored. I was too relaxed last year and they took advantage. This year I am exacting a bloody revenge.
Of course it goes without saying that, as I’m sure you do, Zed, I harvest their roots (and leaves). What’s a war without the purest of motives?
(Laughs briefly and frighteningly – almost like a bark.)
Buttercups have become the bane of my life, such as it is. I’ve given the garden a No.1 every week but even when I do they emerge above all else. No idea why. I even commented on it to my wife earlier today, when we were sat in the front, watching the grass grow. Last sentence, and joking aside, we did literally have this conversation earlier.
Hope you are both well Kralin and Zed, stay safe.
The thing with Dandelion roots is if you don’t get it all out it comes back twice as bad, i will always remember when we first moved to Prague and went into the gardening section at the local supermarket, to my surprise they actually sold Dandelion seeds, it is a very popular salad plant there. as for your lawn Kralin, i would soon have raised planters on it with gravel in between them, problem solved, well until you let them grow in them as well. :laugh2:
Thanks, The Padster. We’ve toyed with the idea of raised beds but for some reason have always kept things at a back-breakingly ground level.
And yes – there is always an uneasy moment when I’m prising out a root and it snaps.
So please tell a very amateur gardener – how does one successfully prise out the whole dandelion without digging up the whole lawn?
One uses a Spear and Jackson Elements Dandelion Weeder. It’s just the ticket.
Just dig the brute(s) out then pat the lawn back – patting slightly more vigorously than one would on a dog’s head unless a) you don’t like dogs or b) you don’t mind a mangled hand.
A spear? Blinking heck I’m not that old!
Elle, can I borrow yours old bean?!
Been sat in the street for 4 hours with all our neighbours, who prior to this were strangers we only waved at once in a while. It was invigorating, lovely and refreshing.
Without meaning to be controversial, English people seem to be more British than Scottish people.
Without doubt, VE day should be celebrated across the whole of Europe as a reminder how differences between nations can be so destructive.
Royal weddings, generally Scottish people don’t overly care (or maybe it is just me).
In the West of Scotland, if a Union Jack was hanging from your window, the said window would probably get smashed. I’m sure GP will agree with that comment.
Init, I am pleased for you that you perhaps know your neighbours so much better as a result of today’s celebrations.
Jamie
To explain further, Union Jack is seen as a Rangers thing and Irish tri colours seen as Celtic thing.
Jamie
I hate that the Irish flag is seen as a Celtic thing!!
Couldn’t particularly comment on either aspect as I don’t know enough about either situation.
Ironically though it turns out that one of my neighbours is indeed Irish, which I didn’t know, and he’s married to a Scottish lady, which I did know.
Hope you are both well, stay safe.
Init, there’s been a lovely feel to the day, almost like the country needed something to celebrate (obviously!)
And topped off by Her Majesty this evening.
Glad you’ve had a good time. I can just imagine you belting out ‘We’ll Meet Again’!!
We forgot that bit!
Hey cookie et al
I trust you are well?
Ray parlours book is amazing, well worth a read!
Cheers Mitro, will try and get hold of it – maybe a library job if and when they open.
All good thank you mate, you and the family well I hope?
It’s not a book, but I’d strongly recommend The Last Dance on Netflix. It’s a documentary on Michael Jordan and the great Bulls team of the 90s.
Sounds great cheers Kop. Only issue is we don’t have Netflix lol.
Hey Cookie.
I too am reading a lot.
Reading Pete Davies’ All Played Out about England and the 1990 World Cup. Enjoying it so far, great memories and so much nostalgia.
That was a great World Cup GP, I’ll have a look at that cheers.
Derek Pringle had surprisingly good musical taste for a sportsman. I bet he mentions music in his book. And I bet it isn’t ghost-written, either.
I’m probably wrong on both counts.
He always looked slightly absurd when batting because of the style of helmet he wore.
He bowled really well in a World Cup final. Had Robin Smith played we would have won that game.
It’s hard to imagine that he must be in his 60s now. I don’t want to know how old Gooch is. Or Robin Smith.
Hey Kralin,
Goochie is 66 now, Pringle 61 and Robin Smith the junior at 56!
You’re correct on both fronts re Pringle – music is mentioned a lot.
Smith sadly has had a really tough time since retirement but touch wood he has come through them.
I think I’ve exhausted the Essex angle which is a shame for me.
@Blue, about to finish up on Di Stefano by Ian Hawkey, loved it, learned quite a bit about the Madrid legend. Sir Alex is on the cover saying “One of the greatest footballers ever”
I think Sir Alex was paid for writing a line about the book/player on many books. I have book ready and waiting to start in a day or so and guess who is on the cover giving the book a line, yep him again. Sell out!! Another book on Madrid and once again he is on there. :close_tema:
Mito, Sir Alex loves making a pound note ir two.
Not many realise the bond between Real Madrid & Man United – after Munich, Madrid offered to loan United players while they got themselves back on their feet.
Reading some of these Madrid books it has become obvious there is a bond there. I notice how they refer to them and it always show them respect, which they don’t necessarily do for other teams. They definitely hold Sir Alex in high regard going out of their way to just throw his name out there. I was reading something on Di Stefano and his European games and they mentioned your manager. No real need for it, but they threw it in there.
A bit surprising they bothered with that old fart considering what he said about us being a mob and not selling us a virus. :laugh2:
Make sure your bench is strong.
Five subs and no VAR.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52592431
My gut reaction to it was you would need a stronger bench because of rotation. 5 subs changes this though as it’s more likely if say Aguero don’t start he will appear from the bench
Exactly Smash. It will be a nightmare as almost everyone will have a dip and lots of reduced minutes for many.
No VAR with be awesome but at this point I prefer no COVID19. 😉
Good to see / hear from you Raz, hope you are well pal.
Yes.
Consider yourself lucky you’re not in the UK at the moment Raz, where things are unravelling in a truly tragic and horrifying manner – though I know it’s been very bad where you are.
Anyhow, dandelions…
Hi all, hope you are all safe and well. Apologies that we haven’t posted any new content for a good while now but all things considered what would be the point.
Just wanted to say thanks to those who have stuck around the community though, your support for us and for each other is massively appreciated. :bravo:
Hopefully we will have something more meaningful (less meaningful; football) to discuss at some point soon enough.
Hopefully we shall all look back at this in a few years and laugh at the fact that we descended into chat about Ray Parlour’s autobiography and dandelions….
Stay safe all, and stay home if you can. #FF247Community :good:
And be alert!!
Britain needs lerts Cookie.
Doing my best Init :good:
In a retirement community & surprised that there aren’t too many casualties with the nu,mber of old people. Doing well & staying home for the most part. Hope you are all well.
Stay safe Mosc, I know some of the retirement homes have been seen some terrifying numbers, guessing a community is different, but nevertheless stay away from anyone who looks like they got a good tan.
The community is about 200K residents spread out over 3 counties in central Florida. Most are staying home and practicing safe distancing. Have been sitting out on the patio to get my vitamin D. Hope is all well with you and yours.
Just glad you are safe, we are all good also staying home except for dog walks, but we keep our distance from people if we happen to see one on the street which is very rare.
An instalment of Cookie’s Diary is what we need!
Don’t put ideas in my head!
Can’t be any weirder than when we had alternate universe FF247 where some of our members got stuck on.
Fantasy Bundesliga, anyone? hippo
This one Meato ?

yep
My team is on post 117 of article ‘FF suspended’
What about Fantasy Pharoe Islands? :big-lol:
https://fantasy.tv2.no/fantasy/participate/96943
I have a team ready..i know at least 4 of them.
Hi all, hope you’re all managing during this crisis.
Just curious, what are people thinking re remaining chips? Should we consider playing bench boost or triple captain ahead of GW 38 considering the possibility that they stuff all remaining games within GW 38? I don’t think it’s that likely to have all remaining games within GW 38 if they’re actually looking to complete the season, but I’m still wondering if anyone else has thought about this too.
Reading the FPL site it seems to be implying there may be weeks 39, 40 … If we do get restarted.
For me I used TC week 1 to get a sneaky jump on my ML so I’ve always expected to use BB in week 38
Anyway, if we should get a massive wk 38, I look at it this way:
BB – You need to compromise one of your starting XI to get a fully playing bench.
TC – No bench player is needed as even with rotation all of your onfield XI will get some gametime during the week(s)
It’s up to you to judge if the
TC 13 better players (3xC + 10)
will outscore the lesser
BB 16 (2xC + 9 + 5)
They’ll be spread out as normal over a number of weeks. They can’t lump 94 games in 1 GW
I’d still struggle for triple figures!
