Welcome to our FantasyFootball 247 mid-month Leagues round up for January!

Writing this from the side of a rooftop pool in southern central India, I am brought to mind the words of Mahatma Gandhi “Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth”. So hold fast to your convictions ladies and gents, and stay your course, as you fight your way up the league rankings.

The Season League
The festive season is now but a distant memory, though the dark winter nights remain – perhaps more for some managers than others… Wildcards have been played, some profitably, others with more than a few retrospective regrets, and even the occasional cry of “Why Always Me?!” So where has this merry dance left us?
Well, as reliable as Stevie G’s returns, Barntons Bashers hold on to their lead at the top of the league, with 1,486 points, moving a further 9 places forward in the main game to a fantastic number 53 in the overall rankings! What’s interesting is that B-Bash  has just played his wildcard (active this week), so we are wondering what that will do to his position over the coming game weeks. In second spot, James101 continues to work his way up the global rankings, moving to 628 overall, up from the mid-900’s last time round. FF247 have recently published interviews with both these managers, to gain what insight we can from their differing approaches.

The knights of ni have moved up two to third spot, with a very impressive 1,435 points, pushing our own Cookie back one place to fourth – a mere 2 points separate these two now, so we will watch developments with interest. Herewegoagain move two places up to fifth spot, on 1,420, followed closely behind by Peps Packers, also up two. Catch me if you Kun are another riser, in at seventh, with all these risers pushing Robin Van Pricey down from fourth to eighth. New entrant Dhula United storm into the top ten with an excellent 70 points for the week, with JTFC moving up one spot from eleventh to tenth, edging out last month’s number 6, Shane-PAIN FC, by just 3 points. In short, it remains pretty close!

The Monthly League
A new month, and a new Monthly League leader, with The Expendables returning an excellent 209 points for the first 3 game weeks; 84 points in this game week alone, a score with a weekly global ranking of 4,000, well done! A single point behind (after hits are factored in), Bocadillo Allstars are in second spot on 208 points for the month and it looks like being a real tussle between those two over the next couple of game weeks. That said, our joint third placed teams, fc sanchez and fc tom tomsk are both easily within fighting distance, on 200 points. Serendipity United (last month’s 5th ranked team) and cola toure hold joint fifth at this stage, 3 points back on 197.
The wonderfully named (if you like your movies) White Boys Day move into seventh spot this week, sharing it ominously with Barntons Bashers, our winner last month. One point further back in ninth are inter ma’nan, who placed tenth last month. Making up our top ten are two teams; creative name team and underdogs, both on 193 points. So the spread between the top ten teams is a mere 16 points, nothing really over a game week, let alone more. Everything still to play for in our opinion!

Many thanks as always to elleffcee for verifying the monthly table – you may notice a slight difference in a couple of the rankings, this is because the monthly charts that are automatically generated do not take all hits into account – clearly these should be factored in to show who’s really performing best.

    Rate my WC team
    Boruc
    Coleman Ward Sagna
    Silva Hazard Lallana. Cabaye
    Adebayor Suarez Aguero

    Subs:Robles,chambers,Flanagan ,mutch
    Bank:0.

      NIN says:

SmartKunal – Strong team,i’d be worried about your subs though because they are pretty weak, you could save 0.3m by doing Robles >> Davis, then if something happens to Boruc you have back up,Robles wont be getting any game time. Also,Alex Bruce has been getting games recently so maybe him instead of Flanagan who’s not guaranteed to play next GW,that’s a 0.4m saving so 0.7m saved in total, maybe use that to upgrade Chambers who’s not a regular at all.

      • SmartKunal says:

Flanagan will play next gw…..Since louvre n is inj, maybe chambers should play

        • NIN says:

SmartKunal – fair enough,if you think it’ll be okay then go ahead with it,i wouldn’t be too confident though.

      • SmartKunal says:

Also, should I swap Coleman for a Chelsea defender since Everton r not keeping clean sheets ,recently a lot?

        • NIN says:

Chelsea do have some good games coming up,might be best to wait and see how bad Coleman’s injury is though,he’s been a beast all season so it’s be a shame to lose him and struggle to get him back in,we should know his situation by Tuesday.

      B-Bash says:

SmartKunal, I agree with Nin on the gk and substitutes. Robles wont play, so save .3 by going to Davis. If you do Flanagan to Bruce and Mutch to Noone you’ve got a cool 1m .
If Boruc is remaining your fulltime keeper, consider moving Chambers. Vlaar is looking good and Villa only keep clean sheets when he plays. Some good fixtures too

      The B says:

The team is really good. A bit concerned about Chambers and Flan.

Clyne competes with Chambers and we never know who will start, while Flan competes with Kelly in absence of GJ (Kelly started today though in FA cup).

      The rest is good.

Thanks for the write up James. Great stuff!

    Hello Nin,
Wc is moving along. I didnt think I would but I’m starting to get intriged by Mata! Still got Mert Coleman Haz yaya and forwards. Watching the Cabaye situation, but think he should stay. So really, its a case of do I Mata or not!

      NIN says:

Bash – Yeah,i find it very odd that they are selling him to us,i’m bloody delighted with it though!! It’s hared to say no to him isn’t it? He’s been brilliant for Chelsea,i know i’ll be bringing him in as soon as i can, for sure.

    Hey guys,

I’m looking to bring someone in for Chester and my budget is 5.3. Trying to think outside the box a little and possibly go with some differentials as well. Any thoughts on Debuchy, Evans, or Vlaar? They have some decent fixtures coming up. Is there anyone else I should consider?

My defense currently looks like this:

    Marshall Manonne
    Coleman Koscielny Clyne Ward Chester

    • 29.1
      NIN says:

RedVT – Swansea have been on a bad run recently but their fixtures ease up now,Ben Davies at 4.9m could be a sweet differential,i’d prefer him to any of the three you’ve mentioned.

    • 29.2
      The B says:

Chester > Davies is a straightforward move.

But if you are looking for differential CSs, then id suggest Vlaar or Williams. Both have strong fixtures coming up and will keep you covered for 5/6 GWs i guess.

      RedVT says:

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Not sure if I’ll do it this week for a -4 hit or wait until next week, but I need to bring somebody in for Chester soon.

      Red
Vlaar for me, and that little bit cheaper…i am still loathe to spend much outside my formula of 2 x premium defenders (tho only £5.something’s for me) plus 3 x cheap as possible gteed starters. A £3.9m – £4.3m has as much chance as any £4.9m defender this year it seems, and those precious £0.pts saved add up.
Despite the change in BP’s, the early season flurry of CS’s and one or two stand out performers (Coleman!)..the real points have come from the front back ie 1. forwards 2. mid. 3 def
In previous seasons I have concentrated on loading my midfield and playing 5, but this year, attackers are where its at.
Get 3 cheap but playing back ups, save those little bits of part £m’s and invest up top.

      • RedVT says:

Thanks Drexl. I’d like to hold back some $ so I can afford to bring Mata in for Cabaye or Eriksen eventually, so Vlaar would def be good for my budget.

    B-Bash says:

    Afternoon Red.
Vlaar is probably my favourite option. Chiriches is a possibility too?

    • 30.1
      RedVT says:

Thanks Bash, I like Vlaar too. Hadn’t thought about Chiriches really, he’s got some decent fixtures after Man City though. Good luck continuing your amazing run this season!
