A 23 man squad? Rules that contradict themselves? A site we can’t trust to load up properly come transfer time? Players we have never heard of? Players valued at £1.0m? This all looks a bit odd… Must be World Cup time, bring it on, we love it!!!…. Welcome to our first ever World Cup ‘Rate My Team’ and to kick proceedings off FF247 has it’s very own fantasy team that is entering the competition!

The site address to enter is Mcdonalds Fantasy World Cup, you can register here. The official site league is called FF247 – simply enter this in the search bar on the league section and press JOIN!

Here is the FF247 team as it stands. FF247 welcomes suggestions and criticism aplenty but don’t be offended if you get it back! We jest, of course. Sort of. He has been known to bite though! FF247 himself will be around to discuss the team itself on this article thread and will take on board your thoughts and suggestions for changes ahead of the deadline on Thursday and there will be updates throughout the tournament as to the teams progress and hopefully thoughts on selection and strategies as it progresses.

And the subs…

This is by no means the final squad that FF247 will go into the competition with but rather an initial attempt at building a squad. A lot will depend on the feedback tomorrow and what is learnt from your own submissions and findings. The final squad will be published later in the week.

We also welcome your own Rate My Team posts on here as you begin to finalise those squads and starting line ups. Thoughts on formations, players or teams to watch, bargains, strategies or just whatever you want to post are welcome as always.

With it being 1 point for every save, is it worth choosing a keeper who is going to be busy and not necessarily keep the clean sheet?

Can’t decide about Pjanic. I’ve just binned Figueroa (realistically 6th choice in my 3-4-3) for a cheapo, and have 2.5m to spend. This could buy me any midfielder in the game, or I could switch out Alderweireld for someone like Dani Alves. What do we think?

Pippin – Who are your other first choice defenders?

      • Pippin says:

NIN, cheers. Zabaleta, Blind, Zapata, Manolas, plus Alder- I’m pretty happy with that, but 2.5m goes a long way. Alternatively, it could get me JRod, Gerrard, Vidal, Iniesta in the midfield…

      Pippin says:

Anyone? Pjanic and Alves? Or Vidal/JRod and Alderweireld? I got 2.5m burning a hole in my pockets!

      • @Pippin all indications from Chile is that Vidal is very unlikely to start. Problem is he will be missing part if not all of his only easy game of the group. So based on this, as much as I hate it, I will stay away from Vidal.

        • Pippin says:

Thanks Mito. On the subject of Chile- how do you rate their chances? Without Vidal pulling the strings will they struggle? Vargas is tempting as a 4th striker, but ties up perhaps too much cash, and no one in their midfield jumps out.

Maybe sticking with Pjanic as a differential and Alves coming in as a strong defender is the best way to go.

        • Pippin if Vidal is back for the two tougher games I expect them to move on. They are a very good side, extremely attacking. Sometimes they take too many chances going forward. At times during the qualifiers you could make a case they were the best side in South America. When they get eliminated it will probably be in a shootout that sees them exposed in the back, but also shows their array of talent offensively speaking.

        • Pippin says:

Interesting Mito. Would you pick any of their other mids? I’m considering Diaz or Valdivia as late replacements for one of Pjanic/Valbuena/KDB.

        • Pippin says:

would earn me the 0.5m I need to get Alves and Iniesta in for Evra and Oezil.

        • No mate. Vargas, Sanchez and Vidal will probably be the source of their points. Valdivia is a hot head and has a tendency to foul a lot. Plus he gets subbed out early or may not even start in tougher games. Very talented player but still undisciplined after all these years. Unless you want to take a punt? You could definitely do worse.

        • Pippin says:

Hmmm. Last thing I need is a man who’ll get sent off. If I can find another 0.5m I can get Pjanic back in, who’s a much better punt I feel. Maybe I’ll chuck my 3rd striker (Costly) for a cheapo and just trust in Neymar/Messi/Benzema.

    Rakitic or De Bruyne?
