A 23 man squad? Rules that contradict themselves? A site we can’t trust to load up properly come transfer time? Players we have never heard of? Players valued at £1.0m? This all looks a bit odd… Must be World Cup time, bring it on, we love it!!!…. Welcome to our first ever World Cup ‘Rate My Team’ and to kick proceedings off FF247 has it’s very own fantasy team that is entering the competition!

The site address to enter is Mcdonalds Fantasy World Cup, you can register here. The official site league is called FF247 – simply enter this in the search bar on the league section and press JOIN!

Here is the FF247 team as it stands. FF247 welcomes suggestions and criticism aplenty but don’t be offended if you get it back! We jest, of course. Sort of. He has been known to bite though! FF247 himself will be around to discuss the team itself on this article thread and will take on board your thoughts and suggestions for changes ahead of the deadline on Thursday and there will be updates throughout the tournament as to the teams progress and hopefully thoughts on selection and strategies as it progresses.

And the subs…

This is by no means the final squad that FF247 will go into the competition with but rather an initial attempt at building a squad. A lot will depend on the feedback tomorrow and what is learnt from your own submissions and findings. The final squad will be published later in the week.

We also welcome your own Rate My Team posts on here as you begin to finalise those squads and starting line ups. Thoughts on formations, players or teams to watch, bargains, strategies or just whatever you want to post are welcome as always.

So this new rule Tekno posted, now we’ll have to change strategies based on the time players actually play!!

Damn it! I wish we could all just play the Mirror game. sad But all my friends and Potty are insisting on McD, so what the hell.

B, are you referring to the fact you can transfer out players that have played but not done well?
If so, its just like ufpl, which was a lot of fun. The big big down side is that if you miss a day then you might find you’re stuck with some players on 2 points whereas those with more time on their hands have made all their subs and racked up big points.
Suggest you set a reminder in your phone for an hour before kickoff for every game! smile

Found this on a twitter link for the McD’s game:

    Points

In addition to the usual points (5 points for a goal & 3 points for an assist) a few key area’s to consider:
Goalkeeper = 1 point each save / blocked shot
    Defender /Mid / Striker = 2 point each save / blocked shot
Defender = 1 point for every 2 recovered balls
Midfielders = 1 points for every recovered ball
All = 1 point every 2 balls DELIVERED into the penalty area (no confirmation on successful only)
All = -1 point for every 3 fouls

    * Recovered Balls – no clear definition how this will be calculated

There are also bonus points –
1 point if GK has a save rate >80%
1 point if Defender or Midfielder has a pass completion rate >80%
1 point if Striker has goal attempts >80%

So the Goalkeeper could be a real point magnet but what of a combative midfielder that likes a long ball / set peice…..imagine Steven Gerrard v Italy 2 blocked shots = 4 pts, 4 recovered balls = 4pts, 8 balls delivered into the box = 4 pts played 90 mins = 3pts and 92% pass completion = 1pt. Game ends 1v1 he gets 15points!

Should make squad selection really interesting but also the captaincy as a striker would need a brace and assist to get near that point total.

I thought it was interesting to think that a striker might need to score a brace to equal the same score a DM might get for a solid game.

      • NIN says:

What about forward/att mid’s who get stuck in? Gerrard is not a good pick in my opinion.

        • NIN says:

Agreed, a mixture is definitely essential. I just get the feeling that a lot of managers are disregarding goals/assists and just chasing recoveries, attack minded players get recoveries too, and put in crosses, and score/assist so finding players who do everything is key i think, rather than just chasing DM’s in the hope they scrape their way to 11 or 12 points.

        • photek says:

I think a mixture of both is the way to go but who can be sure, we’ll know more after the first couple of rounds. I think Steve G / Yaya are good choices as they offer you points at both ends of the field.
