A 23 man squad? Rules that contradict themselves? A site we can’t trust to load up properly come transfer time? Players we have never heard of? Players valued at £1.0m? This all looks a bit odd… Must be World Cup time, bring it on, we love it!!!…. Welcome to our first ever World Cup ‘Rate My Team’ and to kick proceedings off FF247 has it’s very own fantasy team that is entering the competition!

The site address to enter is Mcdonalds Fantasy World Cup, you can register here. The official site league is called FF247 – simply enter this in the search bar on the league section and press JOIN!

Here is the FF247 team as it stands. FF247 welcomes suggestions and criticism aplenty but don’t be offended if you get it back! We jest, of course. Sort of. He has been known to bite though! FF247 himself will be around to discuss the team itself on this article thread and will take on board your thoughts and suggestions for changes ahead of the deadline on Thursday and there will be updates throughout the tournament as to the teams progress and hopefully thoughts on selection and strategies as it progresses.

And the subs…

This is by no means the final squad that FF247 will go into the competition with but rather an initial attempt at building a squad. A lot will depend on the feedback tomorrow and what is learnt from your own submissions and findings. The final squad will be published later in the week.

We also welcome your own Rate My Team posts on here as you begin to finalise those squads and starting line ups. Thoughts on formations, players or teams to watch, bargains, strategies or just whatever you want to post are welcome as always.

Here’s a thought to do with recoveries: will midfielders in a team like Spain, which tries to control possession, be worth having at all as their chances of picking up recovery/intercept points are much lower? To further refine the picking of DMs further, do we look at the high intensity / pressing teams?

Pippin, i was wondering the same thing. Came to the conclusion of no. Reason being, when they do lose the ball, they press hard to win it back asap. Might be a reason for their more forward midfield players to score higher than the deeper players like busquets though.
Just my view though. No science or stats to offer in support!

Say for instants I had Cesar starting in goal and my sub goalie was playing later in the week but may not start, will I be able to wait for the team sheet to come out before making my transfer. Or if I transfer him in and he does not play will my original GK be put back in?
Hope that makes some kind of sense!

FT, as with the above post… I was wondering the same thing eatlier! With UFPL there was published ‘game days’ with there own deadlines. Not seen the same thing for macDs so was going to guess that i’d have up until kick off. Will try the first change as soon as the team sheets come out and see what happens.

Making progress with my team and here is the first 11 for McD.

    Cesar
    Alba – Rojo – Evra
Oscar – Di Maria – KDB – Pogba
    Messi – Neymar – Dzeko

I might have to add some defensive mids i guess. Oscar should be great with ball recoveries, I remember him tackling like a beast in EPL and then throwing in crosses, hopefully he does that for Brazil too. Pogba also a bit defensive and more like YYT in goals.
Dzeko could be a hit or miss, but I have Kokorin as backup and could come in as a handy sub.

    Thoughts?
