Welcome to FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 17

We are underway on Friday this week with Nottingham Forest v Tottenham Hotspur under the lights and next to the Trent. A decent way to kick off the weekend’s action hopefully.

Saturday has no lunchtime game so we are in limbo until 3pm when Simon and the lads have four games to bring us. Bournemouth v Luton in the battle of the two smallest gorunds ever in the Premier League when quality and not quantity will hopefully be the order of the day (but let’s be honest, no one is seeking out a link for this one!). Simultaneously, we are at three mammoths of grounds in PL terms as Chelsea welcome the Blades to the Bridge, Manchester City host the Eagles and Newcastle have Fulham at St James’s.

Saturday evening sees Burnley v Everton as Everton look to continue their excellent recent form and climb into the safety of mid-lower table as they await their day in front of the appeals panel and a possible European spot if all goes well.

Sunday has three 2pm games as the Thursday Night Crew get themselves geared back up for domestic action. Brighton go to Arsenal after their Marseille match, West Ham regroup after Freiburg with a match against Wolves at the London Stadium and lastly Villa travel to the G-Tech at Brentford after their trip to Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League. All three can land on Sunday as European Group Winners as well.

Manchester United, who used to be decent in Europe, travel to Anfied at 4.30pm. Yikes.

Darwin is dead to me – and I’m using every ounce of will power not to rage transfer out now. After some reflection, and factoring in Erling’s inevitable return, I think it’s comes down to:

    1) Solanke & Archer (on the bench)
    2) Gordon & a budget mid for the bench

What doe people think? The Gordon option leave a little more ITB for tidying a fairly weak defense.

I’ve got the completely wrong! It’s…

    1) Solanke & a budget mid
    2) Gordon & Archer

Not quite sure how they’re going to work out the Bournemouth Luton game, could be a long day

Honest question from over yonder here in the states…. The match Saturday is suspended/abandoned whatever term you want to apply. My question is has this ever happened before and if so what was the end result? Fantasy stuff aside.

The last game to be abandoned was Watford v Wigan, December 30th 2006 due to torrential rain in the 56th min at 1-1,quite similar to this one in time and score, the game was replayed 52 days later from minute zero, the original game was completely erased from Premier league history! Was FPL even going in 2006? I wasn’t playing it then if it was, I’m sure somebody will know on here what happened if it was

In the last euros (pl might do the same) when Eriksen collapsed the match was restarted at the same minute (the same evening in that case)

So will they find some for it to be played out from the same minute? Luton are in a relegation battle so the exta 2 points up for grabs could be huge for them.

Bigger picture let’s hope lockyer is OK.

‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’
Definitely not – if I were to compare my FPL antics of late, it would be to that ever present ‘thorn in the side’, Darwin Nunez!!!!
Like Darwin in recent matches, taking shots and missing in front of an open goal, behaving erratically and not taking advantage of what’s in front of him, this GW, all I had to do in my mind, was to get in Son by trading out Haaland and Soucek, and into the bargain, sneak in Solanke to the front line….
….and don’t forget to play Palmer in the run-on squad!
    What did I do???
I did a smart-arse move of getting in Alvarez and Son, thinking young Julian would be gagging for the opportunity to go big and prove himself in Erling’s absence!
AND….. due to the fact that I was gonna have to leave Saka on the bench in order to play Palmer (with the unbeatable forward line of Alavarez, Watkins and ….Nunez!), I stupidly decided to leave Lil Col on the pine himself, in light of Chelsea’s recent form!
    Results?
Alvarez 2 pts vs Solanke 6 pts
Saka 3 pts vs Palmer 14 pts
Son 2 pts vs Soucek 3 pts
Add in a minus 4 and I’ll let you do the maths!!!
(BTW, I got a massive 26pts on the bench!)
However, much to my surprise this morning, I’m on the thinnest of green arrows, moving ‘up’ to 1,697,548th spot!
Why do I only highlight my failures on the site? I’ll let you do the guesswork on that as well!

Think I’ll eat humble pie this GW, finally get in Solanke for Alvarez, keep Darwin for Burnley on Boxing Day, and do my ‘get back Haaland double shuffle’ move when we’ve got more news!
Oh and by the way, ‘season’s greetings’ to one and all!
    smile

      AJW says:

So what do you all reckon – Alvarez > Solanke, or Foden>Tavernier/D Luiz (it’s to be able to afford the very tempting Darwin>Haaland in a couple of GWs)?

Or maybe both for a minus 4??? (My 3rd consecutive – wonder why I keep gettin’ red arrows! Hahahaha) smile

Do I ditch Schar, Udogie or Baldock, or go with what I have.
Intention is to WC after Boxing Day games….. not looking forward to that!!

      AJW says:

Yeah HF, get rid of one of the little feckers and have someone to get some points this week, like a Vila or Spurs defender. You’ve got plenty of spare change there! smile

      • AJW says:

Get some more Claret into your squad mate! Doesn’t matter if it comes from Birmingham! smile

        • hammerfan_lm says:

I wouldnt say that much spare change. If I were to get Haaland back now (which I am not, I would have 0.4m change to spare).
I will see if Schar makes it back for the game tomorrow, or see what Howe says in the pressers about him. If not, maybe a cheaper Toon defender for him and see what happens with the rest!!
