FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 2
Welcome to FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 2
GW1 went off sans drama, no last-minute cancellations, no Covid drop-outs, no ad-hoc midweek games, no nothing really. And GW2 begins roughly a week later. Dare we say we could almost be back to normality?*
*touches wood, wishes on a stray eyelash and looks for a four-leaf clover
As for GW2 itself, we begin with two GW1 losers as Villa welcomes Everton at 12:30 That’ll be a cracker…
If you are still awake at 3 pm, then there are actually some intriguing encounters to behold as Leicester goes to Arsenal. At least it is that way around or else seeing Arsenal’s players subjected to the Post Horn Gallop in training would have been almost reminiscent of a scene from Guantanamo Bay. And yes this is too good not to be a regular feature of LMC. Reference All or Nothing if you haven’t got a Scooby what we are on about. Reference Hanna-Barbera cartoons if you don’t know what a Scooby is and work your way backwards.
Anyway, enough rabbit holes… Brighton hosting Newcastle also looks tasty, from a purist’s POV anyway, whereas Man City vs Bournemouth looks scary. At least for the latter. Saints v Leeds should be good, as will be Wolves v Fulham before we have our first relegation six-pointer of the season as Man Utd go to Brentford in the later KO @ 5:30 pm.
Sunday begins at 2 pm with another pair of GW1 losers as Forest welcomes West Ham. The showcase game does look like a cracker at 4:30 as Chelsea and Spurs clash in the Antonio Conte Derby.
We then have our first Monday night game as Liverpool welcome Palace at 8 pm. Enjoy the game week everyone!
The games in full…

FF247 LEAGUES FOR 2022/23
Fantasy Football 247 League Codes:
Both leagues will be shut to new entrants as of 01/01/23.
Price rises (and falls) have certainly increased in frequency this season. It’s far more dynamic and definitely impacting transfer strategy more than in previous seasons. Having 0.5itb might be a must this year to cover such eventualities.
I like it. Adds a new dimension to the game and I can see template teams having to account for this. Also…watch out for people taking hits as they try to avoid price drops. Would be interesting to track transfer hit per week by the top 25% of teams (cumulative). Thoughts?
To be honest, I never normally make early transfers. However I have done so both weeks so far for the reason you mention (Kane) and yesterday out of pure frustration with Sancho as utd are not improving anytime soon!
It may be more that the template seems to get stronger every year. With less variety and teams more similar it will result in more aggressive price changes for some players.
Nice thinking analyst.
Made yesterday Bailey to Dasilva and Rashford to Martinelli. One point was price rise for sure, another to get that 4.5 mil mid enabler.
I think those hits are a way more valuable in the beginning, maybe the first 5 weeks. Transfer activity is high and price changes happen faster. That means getting in the train rewards you faster as well.
“The quality of decision is like the well-timed swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and destroy its victim.” – Sun Tzu
(Sun Tzu argues it is important to be extremely prudent in choosing the timing of when to engage the enemy. While having a good strategy in mind is essential, a plan is only as good as it is appropriate for the situation. Having good timing means that while you do not hesitate to execute when the time is right, you don’t rush in either unless the conditions favor it.)
The prices seem to be going like last years and are very volatile, I am not sure how they work out the algorithm, but the thing to remember is there are many more players now thus more people will panic, especially if they are not a serious as some of us here, there are also now so many “experts” online giving tips and advice so this year more than ever there was only a couple of template teams and a few players were hyped and had huge ownership, and there are better options at the same or lower prices.
I have always been on top of price moves and have made fast moves on players, I think it’s better to take a hit to get in a player that is in-form and you want long-term and is doing better than who is being replaced, because it can cost you even more when you don’t have enough funds the next GW.
Think this always happens in the first half of the season when more people are engaged and that starts to wane somewhat after the new year.
Unless FPL have tweaked the algorithm this year to be more aggressive when it comes to price fluctuations?
I had Gross in mind to bring in this week and even with 0.5 in the bank I can’t afford him after his price rise last night. The volatile price rises can be frustrating. Really forces a fair few people into early transfers as not to get stung, when perhaps they would have waited.
Think they could lock price changes until the whole GW had been completed perhaps.
The only way that would work is if you were not able to make any moves/transfers until the GW had ended, that would mean less traffic to the website, everyone would do their team on a Monday and then there wouldn’t be much point in going back until next Monday.
Sorry to be blunt, but you knew the price was highly likely to rise, why would you wait? there was no injury risk, FPL is a strategy game.
I think price change is same as last year. As I remember once the player hit 250k up or down the pric will change. Easy to cjeck at begining with transfer in/out (not the round one). Somethimes they lock it until new game week starts.
@Terminators, I think you’d ideally wait in case there is an injury. Nothing worse than bringing someone in and then they get injured. Just because they weren’t injured in the match, doesn’t mean they won’t pick something up in training.
Terminators, I’m not sure what you are talking about with the reduced traffic to the site is entirely accurate. All they would have to do is hold off any price changes until Monday or Tuesday. People will still make transfers over the weekend no doubt, therefore no reduced activity on the site.
And in my case I was out last night so my mind was not on making changes, I usually am more aware of them and act accordingly though.
Forest v West Ham
Seems like Neco Williams is the NF set piece taker.
Tomiyasu dropped to 4.4m, but came on as a sub. Not sure if he starts next week? Could be a useful enabler if you are 0.1 short. I have 3m ITB, thinking about Bailey and Dalot to Kulu and Tomiyasu. Let’s see how Kulu looks today.
Declan Rice -> the 150mil man
What a great game this Forest vs WH game is
