Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 17.

The New Year is here, but don’t worry GW17 is bound to disappoint you in the same ways the previous 16 gameweeks did in 2020. Everton and West Ham get it rolling with the early Friday game and Manchester United hosts Villa in the second and last game of the day.

Saturday brings us four more fixtures. Spurs welcome in Leeds, Palace gets 3 easy points vs Sheffield, Brighton tangles with Wolves and in the last game we see Championship contenders West Brom play Arsenal.

Sunday gives us three more matchups. Burnley play Fulham, Toon take on Leicester and then Chelsea duke it out with City.

Monday sees the last remaining fixture when Saints take on Liverpool.

The games in full…

Is Zack Steffan Man City’s number 2 in Ederson’s absense?
looking at a number 2 for the short term to replace Ryan who is no longer in favour

    Shadow says:

Might have already been discussed but what do people think is the minimum number of starting players acceptable for next week?

I currently only have 7 starters with 1 FT available so thinking I’ll need to use FH.

      TheDreamers says:

If you have 7 main players with one ft I think you are good. Unless the ft takes away from your dgw plans. Who have you got?

      Tornado says:

Depending on who they are. If you have the core players in those 7, and add another one with your FT, I think you should be fine.
I have 8, and I will probably add another one and have a go with 9.

      Smash says:

I think it depends who you have. Think I have nine some are rubbish but apart from Son I have the main ones it seems. Seems a waste to free hit for a few players

      • Shadow says:

        My team for next week..

Not sure about Podence actually, all rest are decent enough.

        • Smash says:

It’s tough you have most of the main players. I can see people who would argue on both ways here. Like Something like Mendy to Smith-Rowe gives you an extra

        • Stone Frog says:

Stones and Podence are not necessarily nailed to start, so could be only 5. Then if for instance the Spurs game was called off it could go really bad! I think I would free hit.

        • Shadow says:

Cheers, I’m leaning towards FH at this stage, will see how the week develops in terms of anymore injuries or Covid absentees.

        • KI says:

I’ve got Shadow’s team (Dias instead of Stones), but no Holding or Podence i.e. 6 players, and 1 FT. I can see a -4 to get to 8 players, but I don’t want to trade high-value players (Salah+), as they are there for the DGW.
OTOH, with Kane, Son, DCL, Fernandes, (maybe KDB for Salah?), I do not recall seeing 3 or 4 big teams in a BGW last year, and worry the FH may be wasted on a more minor event.
          Any advice appreciated.

        • Smash says:

Teams that blank will be the teams that go far in FA cup. It’s a bit of a lottery as we don’t know but you would guess they will be the better teams

        • KI says:

Thanks, Smash. I’ll have to think this one over.

      • Stone Frog says:

I think there is risk if some players may be rotated / fringe players. It could be wise to account that it could be possible for a game to be called off. For instance if I had 8, but 4 were in one game and a couple of the others were fringe players I would free hit.

        • Smash says:

Any rotated player would be in the cup for me. There is the if a game gets called off but that could impact anyone including those on a free hit

City have confirmed that Eric Garcia has tested positive for Covid.

Did a quick free hit draft, any initial thoughts?
Bench could be downgraded, but not sure who else I would want? Have tried to have 2-3 players from each game, just in case.

      leeboy104 says:

Lewis not in squad today, might be out of favour entirely. Wouldn’t want Lowton against Man U. Maybe downgrade one to Mitchell for funds.

I’d downgrade DCL to fodder to strengthen midfield, possibly try and squeeze Rashford in there. Sterling vs KDB is down to preference really, but I’d still favour KDB.

      Smash says:

Looks fine. Lewis is out of favour. Possibly too much on bench but I get the reasons. I think I’d go cheaper on one of them for example maybe Mitchell or Smith-Rowe but not sure if that cash does anything anyway

    • 101.3
      Otieno says:

I would go for Smith Rowe instead of Saka and a wolves defender for Lewis

    Afternoon

Has anyone started thinking about there FH team?

Going to hold off activating it until next weekend if possible.

These are two versions I have quickly put together, your thoughts would be welcomed.

    • 102.1
      Smash says:

I’d prefer second one. Both are risky if there are any problems you have no bench.

    • 102.2
      Otieno says:

My worry with your choices is the lack of bench cover. The likely hood of one of the six games being cancelled is still hanging over us. With my FH, I won’t be able to have both KDB and Sterling but I will have MC defensive cover and provision for a game being called off.

    • 102.3
      banjomaker says:

I prefer the second one. And I like a gamble, so I can see why you’re leaving as little as possible on the bench, albeit risky in the current climate. I’d be tempted to downgrade Tierney to Holding to enable Pieters to Stones.
